Scanner with ADF

I have a Canon flatbed scanner but want to upgrade to one with an automatic document feeder (ADF). I did a lot of scanning recently and lifting and closing the lid for each page was tiresome.
The jump in price for an ADF scanner from a flatbed is considerable say £200 - £250. I see that the all in one printers (say £100 to £150) mostly have an ADF and will scan. Does anyone have any experience with doing a reasonable amount of scanning on an all in one printer using the ADF. Any limitations ? I would expect the general performance will be lower than a bespoke scanner. I would be expecting to scan A4 black & white text mostly.

For mono A4, frankly, any scanner will do a decent enough job - including ones on MFP's. In fact there's not really any reason to buy separates to my mind - the printers are sold close to cost as they plan on making their money from consumables (ink), so look into ink costs as a part of your calculations (if you plan on using the printer part). For mono A4, look at laser printers - I got a Panasonic KX-MB2010 from a seller on Amazon for under £100, and toner is quite reasonable compared with colour lasers.0
