Harry Potter
Am I the only person in the UK who doesn't care about the new Harry Potter book? I tried reading the first book at the prompting of friends and found it to be badly written, dreary and dull. Yes, it's great that kids are reading more, but if Harry Potter is held up as a shining example of literature... the mind boggles, it…

Dixons extended warranty "offers"
I went into Dixons to buy a Freeview box. Naturally I didn't want to purchase their poxy extended warranty insurance. But when I said I didn't want it I was then offered it at half price - it was such a quick-fire response that it wasn't rehearsed. Would they have made that offer if I had said "yes" first time? I somehow…

Onestopphoneshop
I recently took advantage of the k750i offer on orange at onestopphoneshop. I already have a contract with orange so I knew a credit check wouldn't be necessary. Today I recieved this email from onestopphoneshop. Following this I phoned orange a couple of times to see what was going on. They informed me that, 1: A credit…

Marks and Spencer furniture order that's never coming...
I need some VERY QUICK advice to see if I am over-reacting here. I placed an order with M&S Online back in the second last week in March for a relatively small item of furniture. It cost £200. Order was processed, got the email back saying delivery was expected at the end of May - about 8 weeks. No problem. Credit card was…

lovefilm dvd rental
I've been with lovefilm, the online DVD rental company for about 6 months now, maybe a bit more but recently have started to notice that it takes a really long time for them to get disks sent out to me. I've had 18 items in my queue and no disks sent in 4 days. None of the disks in the queue are flagged as being 'high…

Am I expecting too much??
Two years ago I spent £19,500 on a brand new car listing at £22,000. With 4 children I needed a Seat Alhambra (Galaxy with a diffrent badge). It turned up with imbalanced wheels and damage to the sill where the dealer jacked it up incorrectly. The dealer got the front wheels balanced and I agreed not to bother about the…

Shopping.com or Shopping.CON?
I have noticed that since dealtime.co.uk have changed to shopping.com that products don't appear in price order and in fact when you search for a product the fist stores you see are "Featured stores" which guess are paid adverts or the shops that pay the most. If you want to see the shops in price order you need to click…

Ottakers - catch if you pre-order the new Harry Potter
Ottakers are advertising a free book called 'How to bring up baby dragons' when you pre-order the new Harry Potter. I went in to order it and was told that the offer was 'while stocks last' - no mention of that on the poster in the doorway. But 'while stocks last' has a catch. The catch is that they are taking in more…

Holly Computers
Beware of these. They do not answer phone calls or e-mails and registered post is returned. Their website is still up and running and taking orders. I suggest care is needed before anyone orders from them as they are under investigation by trading standards. Peter

Sky insurance scam
Please be aware there is a new scam going about, tonight my Dad was contacted about renewing his Sky set top box insurance. So my Dad goes along with it (doesn't realise anything is amiss, as mum deals with all househlod bills normally). Then they ask for bank details, with that he says can you ring later when my Wife gets…

Multi points
Various sites offer rewards for following their links. Treat Mutual Points with caution. They offer a reward for 3000 points but mysteriously when you get anywhere near it, their communications dry up. An initial enquiry brought the response that some credits take a while to come through but further enquireis go unanswered.

Parcelforce again
I did a search and found that parcelfarce is well known here for its non existant service but I have another concern. I collected a parcel yesterday which had incurred a vat charge as it came from the USA. I understand these charges are a necessary evil of importing into the UK these days but what I can not accept are the…
