Investigating a heart murmur in my dog. What would you do?
My Dog Cassie, who we think is about 11/12 (she's a Border Collie) recently had an ear infection. During the check up they have discovered a heart murmur. The vet has talked about investigating it under sedation and scan etc. she is always in good spirits, loves her walks and her food. Has no back leg weakness etc. Would…

Ticks
I have picked 5 ticks off my dog this week, they are driving me mad, doesnt seem to matter which spot on treatment I use, he still seems to get them. He had one on his eye, under his belly, on his back and 2 on his toes. I have been recommended the "Scalibor collar", has anyone tried it and recommend it.

Cat Spraying Problem
Hello I really need some advice. We have two cats a girl and a boy and they come and go as they please through a cat flap in the kitchen. Over the last few weeks however the whole house has been reeking of cat urine and the source is the area around the cat flap. Our female cat has also had a couple of scratches on her…

Pigs Ears and tripe sticks for dogs - where to buy?
The packets I normally see are of 6-6 in each and quite pricey. Does anyone know where could I get larger quantities(like 50 in a pack maybe) of good quality (not laced with chemicals) for a reasonable price online? found 50 on zooplus but it is almost £30.00 hmmm…

Any Good citizen award assessors out there?
When Gitdog did his bronze, after a bit of uncertainty, he was allowed to do it with his harness. However the next lot through (with the same assessor) were told that dogs had to do the award with the lead attached to the collar, and all harnesses had to be taken off. Gitdog is now coming up for his silver and the trainer…

Frozen rodent supplier
So this is a bit of a long shot asking here, Not sure I'll find much help but thought it was worth a go. I order XL mice and Medium rodents in bulk for my 3 snakes. This is fine but I take a while to get through them and every time I go to re-order there seems to be different companies available and prices seems to vary…

Introducing a new guinea pig?
Hi, I have a guinea pig who is about 3 years old. We got him at the same time as another who dies about a year and a half ago. Since then he has been on his own. Still seems quite happy and loud like a normal pig. I would like to get another because I feel 2 are better than 1 but I am wary of how unsociable guinea pigs can…

Rehoming a cat
Hi Everyone :) I'm rehoming a cat tomorrow from my local cat rescue centre. I have had cats before so familiar with how to look after them and their demands ;) . I've been reading up on hoe to settle the cat into her new home. Many people say put all the cats thing (litter box, food, toys etc) in one room so the cat isn't…

I want a dog
Not sure if this is the right place to post, seemed the most appropriate! I've been thinking of getting a dog for awhile, I'm looking for a bit of help with the logistics. I've never had a dog before and would probably look at getting one from a rescue home. Firstly, I live on my own and work shifts, earliest 7-3 and…

Cat & fast road
Hi all, Really after some advice here and some help calming down and making a rational decision. My OH and I live on a fast road, busy at rush hour and very fast at other times of the day. There is a 40mph limit but it is not obeyed, and cars whip past at 60mph. Apart from our road, it's a very rural area with miles of…

Neighbours and the Stray cat
My neighbours have taken fondly to a stray cat - They're feeding it, and providing it somewhere to sleep (They leave their porch open for it to go in) It doesn't have a collar (I put one on him with a note to see whether he had an owner) but next door took it off.... I don't mind cats, the problem I have is this: I have a…

Cat accused of damage?! Help!
Hi All I had a well known National company come over today to give us a quote for doing our driveway. The appointment was pretty bad from the start - he initially refused to give a quote because my husband/a man wasn't present who could make a decision. I said I make decisions for the house and he would have to leave if…

Pet insurance for rescue dogs
We are planning to rehome 2 rescue dogs in the near future. We are thinking that pet insurance is the way to go but as the dogs are 12 years old and have no history (they were abandoned) finding insurance is proving difficult and expensive! So would you insure 12 year old dogs and does anyone have any recommendations for…

Vets fee
I took my dog to the vet with a rash on his belly. The vet said it was probably an allergic reaction that had gone septic and prescribed Antirobe 200mg (made up of 150mg + 75mg capsules) once a day. She said it may clear up before that and stop the meds if it did. She also game me some Pro-colin for his stomach. The rash…

Meds for pet and VAT
My dog uses an inhaler for her lung condition. It's traditionally been a human med though animals are increasingly being prescribed it (used with a special spacer for dogs) My old vet gave me a prescription and a supermarket pharmacy supplied it. At first they charged me VAT but subsequently said they had made a mistake as…

Dog flap?
After living in a shoebox new build house for the last few years, we've moved to a house which needs a total refurb, and we've just started the process of sitting down with the architect and planning the extension so that it works for every member of the family, including the furry one. Something we've toyed with since…
