Meds for pet and VAT

My dog uses an inhaler for her lung condition. It's traditionally been a human med though animals are increasingly being prescribed it (used with a special spacer for dogs)
My old vet gave me a prescription and a supermarket pharmacy supplied it. At first they charged me VAT but subsequently said they had made a mistake as VAT should not have been charged on a human med. So I got it VAT free.
However I have moved house and the new vet who is getting it in for me says VAT has to be charged if it is on a veterinary prescription.
Does anyone know about this sort of thing?
Cheers

By rights they should charge VAT as it is to be used by an animal, but in practice, most Pharmacies don't seem to know the rules that apply to Veterinary Prescriptions. One of my dogs was on Viagra to treat pulmonary hypertension (it's original intended use, the other is just a happy side effect :rotfl:) and we got it from a local branch of Lloyd's Chemist. We got into the habit of picking it up when one particular Pharmacist was on duty as he always charged us a VERY good price :money:
