I haven't posted the links to previous challenges either - we're all capable of looking them up by title if we want them. Please feel free to start posting your weight loss goals for the next…

Weekly Flylady Thread 30th September 2019
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Boiled Fruit cake
Has anyone got the recipe for the Bero boiled fruit cake, please? I cannot remember the quantities needed. I tried another recipe couple of weeks ago but we all prefer the Bero one

Not Buying It 2019/20 - consumer holiday!
Good afternoon fellow OSers :) Many of you may recall that a few years ago we had a wonderful Not Buying It thread started by the lovely Slowdown. For various reasons I have recently searched out that thread and read it from start to finish. I like to think I'm not much of a consumer, not easily sucked in by the ads, the…

Hello everyone, This Prolex kettle is an absolute steal at it's original price of £6.00, but for £4.00 it's even more fantastic. Clean White trainers
Hello everyone Does anyone have any good tips for cleaning white trainers. This in both for the uppers and the rubber trim. I have a pair of pure white ones which are now starting to look grubby. Many thanks.

how can I find out if my new house has a TV licence
Hi, I recently bought a house and the previous owner moved temporarily to live with a relative whilst they look for a new project. On the law of averages, they probably had a TV licence, and probably didn't transfer it or cancel it. Is it possible to find out if there is a TV licence. To be fair, I've been here for 1 month…

Baking for the freezer
I am going back to work from maternity leave in a month or so and have been looking at strategies to manage work and home life whilst not increasing the food bill and/or feeding my toddler rubbish food. He is fussy to varying degrees but baked goods usually go down well, I was thinking of stocking the freezer with baked…

Rib stickers for cold weather.
Winter isn't too far away and we will be in the season of cold noses and sneeziness and need far different sustenance than we do in the warmth of summer. What is your favourite 'warm you up' dish on a cold winters day that is both tasty and economical to make? I make masses of soup all year round most of it with whatever…

£63 to feed myself and child in October
Trying to plan in advance and I'm totally lost as to what I need to focus my money on and how to do it. DS is away at my mums for a week at the end of October. I have to do packed lunches for 4 weeks - usually cheese sandwich, fromage frai, apple or orange, soreen banana cake (potentially cheaper to make banana muffins,…

Dying clothes in a washing machine
My OH has several pairs of badly faded by otherwise serviceable dark coloured chino trousers which might gain a new life if I dyed them black or navy in a washing machine but never having tried this before I'm somewhat nervous about the outcome. Can anybody out there who's done this please give a novice some words of…

Jeyes fluid?
Has anyone else noticed that the black liquid jeyes fluid is no longer on the shelves? I'm starting to think I'm crazy! When I ask in any shop they just look at me blankly. For about the last year I've only been able to buy the 'outdoor' green fluid. It smells nothing like the old black one that I loved. I've looked online…

Foraging for fruit and nuts
This year has been a particularly successful one on the foraging front. Our plum and balckberries have been great and we already have a substantial hoard of walnuts shelled. I was just walking back from the shops and found some windfall cobnuts, took them home and they are the size of regular hazelnuts. Do any of you go…
