O/S Daily Thursday 26 September 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dark, raining and very wet underfoot with lots of laying water, rain started sometime during the night and forecast for all day.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans, I had baked fish and veg. Tonight I'm not sure what I'll be having as DH is going to be late so won't eat a big meal.
Possibly I'll have a stir fry of veg from the bottom of the fridge so as little as possible gets wasted.

Yesterday work was fairly quiet although we had periods of time where we were busy. I'm now on days' off until Saturday when I'm working but next week I'm only working 2 days. I have all the normal "to do" chores today and tomorrow, starting with visiting town first thing this morning and then getting my nails done.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. After a lovely day yesterday the rain is back with us today.

Shopping morning and I have yet to compile a list. I just CBA last night, I felt too tired to be bothered. DD picking me up on her way to school. It'll probably be Aldi but will see where else DD needs to go.

The 3 DGDs are here for tea and sleepover and I have yet to start on the customary Thursday Bolognese bake. I usually have the sauce simmering away long before this. It was too tempting to stay in bed this morning! These painkillers really knock me out.

Oh DUMPLING I feel for you with the family strife. In my case it was me and my mum who were always daggers drawn. My lovely dad was the peacemaker between us and I don;t remember ever falling out with him. I hope things are more peaceful for you now.

Have a good day folks, time I got cracking. ((HUGS)) for all in need or want of them. Thinking of TAFF and our absent friends. Take care all xx

  • Good morning and thanks NMLC. You seem to be as busy as usual!

Sorry to hear you're not feeling too good TA - hope you pick up a bit,

Dumpling, I feel for you as well - I clashed furiously with my Dad. My own daughter was a screamer and banger of doors. I had one son who knew everything (or thought he did), and another who just communicated in grunts. They've all grown up into nice people, and now have their own children to contend with.
It is wearing and distressing though, and poisons the atmosphere a bit. Hope it improves.

The sky is looking ominous here, though yesterday turned out quite nice by teatime.

How's your eye Nelski, hope it's not painful.

I hope the baby is progressing well Camelot.

We''re going to Whitby in the caravan today, We like N Yorks, and it's not far for us.

Thinking of the MIA's, hope you're all ok. Also the poorly people, and those struggling with life .

    Take care folks xx

    Good morning folks.

Outside looks rather dark still. Yesterday turned into a lovely afternoon so there's hope still.

I visited a friend in the afternoon to drop off a beautiful 50s Jaeger wool suit which DM agreed to let go. Many years ago she started to adjust the waistband of the skirt though never finished the job. This friend has a friend who is a seamstress, she can fix it and probably wear it. Good job.

My night was very restless and painful despite mega meds. The other day I decided to explore knee surgery as the nights are worse than the days and the days are bad enough. The meds make me dopey during the day a nervy at night. At the very least I think a new X-ray or scan is needed to start some proper thought process.

DM's cleaner is due today. Still not sure when her toe op is. Then this evening another of DM's friends is coming to visit on her way back from work.

I must try phoning my hairdresser again. The salon had some flood damage and closed for repairs. I've left a couple of messages but not heard back so I'll do a drive past. My hair is in desperate need of cutting. I may need to find a new hairdresser.

Right, off to rouse DM with big her cup of tea. Thoughts to all who need them. Happy Thursday to all.
  • Quick hello as I must leave for thee dentist -what I think is the final session.

Have good days all, Dumpling, poor you xx
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning,

Didn't do too much last night aside from stay late in work then home for dinner and watching the football. I've not been counting this month but I recon I've done well on NSD's.

No gym this morning as I was practically frozen with tiredness when the alarm sounded at 5am, I still think I'm tired from London. I've the physio tonight, which is another £47.50 but I think/hope/believe it'll take me one step closer to fixing my knee. No plans aside from that, will probably opt for an early night after my weekly catch up with my gran.

    Morning all,

Had a busy couple of days getting stuff/shopping for DGD 8th birthday today but she came last night after school and opened her presents from us and Daddy & seemed very pleased with her gifts. She's also been made a member of the School Council and has a special badge for her tie :) I also got a text from DGS Mum asking if I'd make some cakes for him to take in to school this morning for their Macmillan coffee morning tomorrow.Ended up making 2 lots as I got distracted and let the 1st lot catch round the edges  I'm definitely out of practice with baking. He had to decorate 6 for the bake off contest they were having today so he spent a happy time pouring as many white choc stars on as he could fit on :D Needless to say the kitchen is still a mess with wrapping paper, presents and baking equipment but I'll crack on in a minute.I was just too tired by the time we'd done, I was on the go all day.

Dumpling sorry for your troubles, family life isn't always easy is it ?

    Scarlet enjoy your hol.
Hi to everyone else and have a good day x

  • Off to Aldi first thing, not much needed today as we are away for most of next week.

Done very little since I got back, Need to cook a gammon joint to slice tomorrow.

Fine morning but we had quite a bit of rain over night, there was standing water on the roads.

Rosy - you made me smile with the image of your DGS pouring white stars onto cakes. Congrats to your DGD for her election success.

My brief shopping trip turned into a min-delight when an ex-colleague from 2009 when we taught together in Newcastle. We only had a short catch up though it brought back some happy memories. He had helped me 'survive' a team building exercise (yeugh) round Keilder Forest in the pitch black.

I've also made a hair appointment for tomorrow. My usual place is still closed so I'm trying somewhere new. I've also now got an appointment with the orthopeadic consultant for Tuesday next week. It's all go here!

Other good news is that DM's cleaner has found a temp replacement for when she's off after her foot op. Let's hope that all these aligned stars keep on bringing good stuff. Oh, and I won £3.50 on the Euro lottery. :rotfl::rotfl:

    Good afternoon everyone :hello:

After all the rain yesterday, we have a lovely bright sunny day today. Things in the house are peaceful for now, Steve and Lilly are studiously avoiding each other but at least there is no more arguments. Thanks for everyone who said they fought with their parents but now have a good relationship with them, it has given me some hope and a bit of peace of mind. I also argued with my mum when I was a teenager and once famously picked her up and threw her in a bush but we are fine now.

Lilly is off to work in a little while and Lee has his evening at college working in the restaurant there. There will only be Phoebe, Steve and myself here for dinner but I just can't think what to cook. I will have to go and have a rummage in the freezer to see what we have. I will peel some spuds anyway to go with whatever I find.

Hope you all have an enjoyable evening whatever you are up to, take care xx
