O/S Daily Wednesday 25 September 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now getting light, wet underfoot, but raining at the moment, we had a really heavy downpour just as I was leaving work last night, but then it stopped and it was drizzling on and off for a while. It's not cold though.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was pork loins wrapped in parma ham with vegetables in a creamy sauce and new potatoes - it was lovely but a bit rich. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

Yesterday work was busy to start off with with still didn't have any systems, then got view only but then got the systems back properly - it was busy with people then ringing back. I'm back to my normal office today so we'll see how that goes. My last day of the working week for me, but I'm working Saturday morning.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.

It is still very wet here and we have had some flooded roads though not ours. OH and DS were out yesterday morning but the roads they were on seemed to be on higher ground and traffic was ok but slow. They are out for the day today and travelling further afield so I'm hoping they don't have too many delays. Anyway, I've fed them bacon sandwiches so they won't starve.

I'm going to do the Friday Tidy on a Wednesday, much simpler when I have the house to myself.

Gers I'm glad you had a break, you needed that.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible

  • Morning All

Another wet night but seems fairly dry at the moment. The humidity is very high, spent all day yesterday with the windows open at work but there wasn't any air coming through.

I have a course to go to this morning for an hour so that will break the day up, taking a friend to visit DD and baby after work then we're going for something to eat, looking forward to that.

Didn't manage any rubble shifting yesterday as I went for a haircut after work and she was running very late.

Hope everyone is OK this morning and Nelski has recovered. Take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A dry day is forecast for us but, sadly, not much sun! It still feels mild.

It's bus trip day today and we have decided on Skipton/ Mainly to bid a fond farewell to Rackhams (H of F) as it is finally closing its doors at the end of the month. I remember when it was Brown Muffs back in the day and was always my first port of call when I needed a special outfit. It seemed to lose its way towards the end when lots of the posher concessions pulled out, to be replaced by sports/casual wear clothes and there are already plenty of those in Skipton selling at much cheaper prices. Still sad to see its demise though.

We are in full force today as our third friend is back from her jaunts. Lunch will be on the agenda but, alas, still no wine for me thanks to the painkillers I am on. Bah. So it will be another no cooking day, just a light bite when I start to feel peckish this evening.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies and sad. A wave to absent friends and my thoughts are with TAFF and family. Take care all xx

  • Good morning, it's a dull damp start today, mildish though.

We had Dgs yesterday until about 5.30, so quite a tiring day. He's 18 months, and a livewire, but it's lovely to watch him changing and discovering things over the weeks.

Went to the quiz last night, the rain had practically stopped by then. It was torrential about 1 o' clock, our front street was like a river.

I'm going out to see a friend this morning, she's only a few minutes walk away. I usually go on Mondays, but we had a hairdressers appt on Monday so wasn't able to visit.

We're going away tomorrow for a few days in the caravan, down to North Yorks, back on Tuesday, so there's things to do towards that. We won't need loads of clothes, but waterproofs are always an essential.

Hope you are ok Nelski, after your eye treatment.

Thinking of Taff, and others struggling with life and health problems.
    Take care folks xx

    Morning folks.

I feel rejuvenated after my mini break at home. :j

Next week I'm going back down to the NE. The father of a dear friend has died so I'm going down for his funeral. He was also a very lovely man who was dear to me. Funeral is in Durham so I'll have one night with friends in Darlington and another in Newcastle. DM's friend will once again step into the breach.

Today will be a mystery! Think I'll go to visit some friends if they're around. Getting out is good for my spirit.

Thoughts to all those struggling. Happy Wednesday to everyone.
  • Morning everyone,

    Happy hump day!

Yesterday was long. Very long. Alarm went off at 4am to catch a red eye to London. After a manic day of running about in the wet yet warm capital, our return train was at 7.20pm. Which was delayed. And extremely busy. It was also then advised it would have to travel at a lower speed due to slower, delayed trains in front. Great. Then, finally, I paid my car parking (expenses) and the machine at the barriers wouldn't take my ticket. Que a frustrated and exacerbated conversation over the tanoy about how I have just paid £21!!...."I don't see any recent payments processed for that amount"....turns out he was looking at the wrong thing.

Annnnyway, a long and deserved sleep meant no gym this morning. Yoga at lunch and I might dip in after work, although there's some football on I'd like to catch if possible. TBD.

Numbers are dwindling with our little family here. I hope everyone's ok and they've just been busy with the happy things in life.
  • Morning everyone

I'm sitting here drinking tea and trying to work out the order that I need to do things today.

I need a couple of things from the supermarket in town so will probably go out for those in a minute, then I'm due to go back into town to meet some friends for coffee later this morning.

Other than that I don't have any plans for today, so will decide when I get back from coffee what I want to do this afternoon.

Specky that sounds like a full on exhausting day yesterday.

    TA enjoy your trip out.

    ScarletRibbons enjoy your trip.

Have as good a day as possible everyone.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Very wet and windy here this morning. It was a dreadful night too in the house as well as outside as Steve and Lilly had a massive argument culminating in Lilly storming out. Thankfully she came back home in the early hours but I still feel shaky and upset. To watch two of the people I love so much screaming and shouting at each other was heartbreaking. I don't know where we go from here, their relationship is fractured beyond repair.

I am waiting for the nurse to come and then I am planning on going back to bed to catch up on some sleep. My foot is so painful I don't think I can bear to have the stretchy stocking on it so I will just have the bandage hopefully.

I will ring my friend later to have a chat. She is very sensible and always has good advice. I miss her so much now she has moved away. She is my only friend now as everyone else has drifted away since I can't get out to visit them.

Sorry for the miserable post, I hope you all have a good day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Good morning chums, just been catching up on some overdue housework.
I had my flu jab yesterday and the nurse said it might make me feel a bit under the weather as it was a new type .By last night at quiz night I felt like I was starting a cold a bit bunged up and coughing, but feel better today thank goodness although my joints are aching a bit which is apparently another side effect ,but as I have osteoarthritis I guess I will never know if its the jab, or the damp weather as they always give me gyp when its raining anyway.:)

Sitting room and kitchen look presentable at least, and my friend from Dartford just phoned, to say could she pop down for a visit tomorrow.

I haven't seen her since before the school holidays so it will be nice to catch up.

This week have have had a constant stream of calls to my landline from am automated system telling me my internet connection will be cut off within 24-48 hours I am getting about two an hour at the moment and its driving me crackers I can't really leave my landline off for too long incase my DDs are trying to call , plus I am awaiting a call from my builder as he is going to retile my porch.
It's off the hook at the moment for half an hour just to give me a bit of peace Don't know how to stop it as I really need my landline for emergencies.
I am registered with the TPS service and have been for the past 16 years.Any ideas chums ?

Eldest DD is due back from her holiday in Zante tonight so I will pop round and make sure she has milk and bread in the cupboards as she doesn't get home until gone 11pm.

I just have to nip to the shop to get some nice ham for tomorrow's lunch I have lots of salad etc, and we both like a decent ham salad when she visits.
Dobbies have some gorgeous ham on their deli counter

Hope everyone has a good day and <<hugs >> to those who are finding life a bit of a trial and Happy Birthday to those who are celebrating

Take care of yourselves everyone you are all precious to somebody

    JackieO xx
