Old Style Daily Saturday 28th September

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now getting light, damp underfoot and forecast is wind, rainy showers for the coming days. I wasn't so lucky with getting washing line dried yesterday - had one load that I put out and fetched in 3 times - in the end it went in the TD!

DH watching catchup tv, DS1 went out last night and has stayed at his mate's and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge as I'm going into work.

Dinner last night was chicken pie, chips and beans for DH, DS1 had steak pie, chips and gravy, I had a savoury rice dish with fishcakes (the rice dish I found in the back of the freezer, it had small lumps of meat in it) - DH very funny about meat so when I realised I shoved it to the back of the freezer and forgot about it - I'm trying to be much better at using what I buy and not over-buying every week - as some things do get wasted, yesterday before I did the food shopping I checked what I had in the fridge and found fresh corn on the cob that was on the turn and past the point of where I would be happy to use it so it went in the bin, it had been one of the offer items - so even though it was cheap it was wasted, trying to only buy what I'm going to use. Dinner tonight is likely to be pizza, breaded chicken portions, skinny chips, side salad and coleslaw.

Yesterday I was very chilled, and just pottered about all day spent some time on here. Did a few jobs etc.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Dumpling.

I didn't post yesterday as was quite busy doing not much of any interest. I ended up doing the Friday Tidy all over again because of messy family. We had real downpours, at one point I was upstairs and I could see the rain in waves across the road. All quite spe ta6but not much help for drying washing, which h is now festoon in the entire place and I haven't started on the towels or bedlinen. I need a decent day before we run out of towels. We do have plenty of towels but even so we might run out if it doesn't stop raining.

I now have 3 new crowns plus one false tooth on a tiny plate which I still loathe but it all looks better. Was it zgers who had crowns replaced because of a black bit showing at the top? I had that too so the new ones look infinitely better, still feel a bit strange.

It is getting cold and time, I think, to put my cotton and linen things away and bring out the warmer things. I might need new socks, my warm ones got worn into holes and the thin ones aren't much cop for warmth.

It is getting light now, nearly time to feed the greedy birds so I will wish you all a happy day.

Thinking particularly of ~taff and of our MIA friends.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning folks.

Yes, AOD, it was me who had crowns replaced because of the black lines at gum level. I too am much happier though poorer!

My shoe purchases yesterday also made me happy. One pair with goretex for wet winter wear and once 'fancy' pair. When I was at primary school a rumour went round that boys could 'see your knickers' reflected in patent leather shoes. :rotfl::rotfl:

This morning I'll be doing the usual Saturday shopping and then DM's crossword friend is coming over. Same old...

My thoughts are with all those having a tough time and wish everyone a happy Saturday.
  • Morning everyone

I've slept in later than usual this morning and feel a lot better for it. Off out volunteering this morning so reading the forum while trying not to spill my tea over the keyboard!

When I get back this afternoon I intend to snuggle on the sofa and watch some catch up tv and a few bits I have recorded. I'm also halfway through a book so will probably read a bit as well.

I shall grab something quick and easy for dinner this evening from the freezer.

Thinking of those who are struggling with life at the moment and especially Taff.

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Morning All

Looks like a nice day, I have the bedding in the WM which I'll hang out when it has finished spinning.

Funeral yesterday was really lovely, such a celebration of a long and interesting life, the lady was 98. Also caught up with some old work colleagues, glad I don't work at that location now it seems awful.

Yesterday afternoon I removed one washing pole, got another out of the ground but struggled to remove the concrete and the third one seems to have 2 ton of concrete on it, I can't move it so will have to ask for help. I'm going to chip away at the concrete on number 2 today but it's hard work for a weakling!!

Must also go up to the allotment to clear the courgettes away, they won't grow any more now.

Hope you're all well and have a good weekend. Take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I started the thread and then got called away to deal with the dogs and then it just went out of my mind, the perils of getting older and more forgetful :).

It was a dreadfully rainy night but the skies have cleared and it looks like we might even get some sunshine. I am hoping Jemima and the grandchildren come and see us today. My grandson has an Egyptian day at school next week and was panicking about a costume. I cheated and got him one on Amazon which should hopefully arrive today. Once upon a time I would have faffed around with sheets and scraps of material but now I have got lazy :rotfl:.

I don't have anything much planned for today. We have a food shop being delivered in an hour or so. I have been inspired by the slow cooker thread so have ordered a few bits of meat and veg that can be thrown into the slow cooker and left. Between that thread and the ribstickers one I am going to put on all the weight I have lost :D:D:D.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Frenetic morning here, woke with a call from the bank saying there was a suspicious transaction on my account, 40 minutes to the fraud squad, thats the second time in as many months, another card cut up, will have to use OH's for the time being.

Cutting up the card, scissors slipped and gashed my finger, cue loads of blood, OH wandering round saying he could not find the plasters which he eventually found in the bathroom, bleeding in the sink.......plaster applied, first one blood washed it off, second one more successful after holding arm up in the air!!

Beef stew for tonight cooked in the PKP.......20 minutes all done, veg prepped so thats supper sorted.

    Cool box and bag out.

I have about 2 lbs of home grown tomatoes, am going to bag them up and stick them in the freezer, the neighbours are all tomatoed out!! I can use them in soup or stew later.

OH has cleaned the inside of the car out, it needed it........

So supper tonight, beef stew, no idea about a dessert, OH might have ice cream.

Shopping done. DM's breakfast made. I'm having a little rest before sorting things out for the visitor.

Hello hope you are all ok and enjoying the day so far.
I have been to london this morning meant a six am journey and just back so did not do too bad - I had my botox injections for my migraine very ouch but as I have not been out of house for two months feel I have achieved today - of course could not have done it without darling husband!

OS - well we on major economy drive but I am severely hampered in what I can do hope that improves soon.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Thanks Gers, yes it has stopped bleeding, Its a 'v' shaped cut, thankfully not too deep, will have to keep it covered until it starts to scab over, do not want any nasty germs getting in. Unfortunately I am what the Dr. describes as 'a bleeder'...........even a very small cut results in copious blood loss........
