In a ferment...
I know a number of you make sourdough bread, and kimchi & kombucha have been mentioned elsewhere, as has kefir in one or other of its guises. All of which I do regularly, and have done for a number of years. I've yet to make sauerkraut, but am looking forward to doing so; I've just failed to make lacto-fermented tomatoes…

Washing Underwear
Good afternoon! I’ve recently changed my method of doing laundry. In that I now wash it person by person, with the exception of towels, whites and bedding. It’s made a HUGE difference for me. The only thing is, I used to put underwear in altogether on a 60 degree wash. Now I put one person’s in at a time, there’s a mix of…

Weekly Flylady Thread 29th July 2019
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Sewing zip on awkward thing - handheld sewing machine?
I've got an agility tunnel, think similar to pop up laundry basket with the wire coil making a frame, and I need to add half a zip to either end so that it can be connected to a pop up tent. Couldn't find what we needed off the shelf without spending a fortune unfortunately.…

Dairy/ casein free diet help
My nearly 3 year old son has recently been diagnosed with autism and the doctor recommended trying him on a casein free diet. My son suffers a lot from constipation and the doctor suggested this might help him. I had a quick Google and found that casein is the protein found in milk so lactose free products are no good. I…

Machine wash polyester?
I have some polyester curtains, the label says dry clean only. Can they be machine washed on a delicate cycle and hung out to dry on the line? They don’t need a proper full wash anyway as they’re not dirty, it’s more of a freshen up
