O/S Daily Sunday 28 27 July 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dull, cloudy and raining on and off here - this is the theme for the day I think. Much cooler too.

DH and myself enjoying first cuppa - he's watching catchup tv whilst I'm on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was chicken enchilades and savoury rice - all eaten and enjoyed. Lunch today will be roast turkey wrapped in bacon, I'll do roasties, (HG) new potatoes, carrots, cauli/broc cheese, peas, swede, yorkshires and gravy.

Yesterday afternoon we visited the parents, my new to me desk was delivered yesterday morning, so I spent quite a while sorting where everything needs to go, re-connecting everything, I'm now going to work through all the paperwork I have and shred all the old stuff, I do quite a lot of the banking online, so the paperwork should be less but I still seem to have loads - needs sorting! But I'm really pleased with my desk.

I'll get the lunch prepped and cooking this morning, then I'll prep the pack ups so this afternoon I can chill. I do need to iron my work shirts too.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We had rain most of the day yesterday, a reprieve in the evening but now it's back again and forecast all day. That's the trouble here, once it starts raining it never knows when to stop! Yesterday's washing went over the airer upstairs but should be dry now.

The postponed Friday Tidy got done in fits and starts yesterday so today will be a lazier day I think. Though I have promised myself I will clean the oven and defrost the bigger freezer now it's looking less crammed.
Maybe they will get done or maybe they won't!

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Nice to hear from POPPY yesterday. Take care all and a wave to absent friends, we are missing you. xx

Good morning, thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

I was absent yesterday, just a bit of a busy day. It rained quite heavily on and off all day and today's forecast is similar. The rain has already started so no need for watering things in pots. Unfortunately my weekend plans included path weeding and similar, so that will have to wait.

Speky, I missed your birthday, hope you had a happy day.

I am not sure what to make for dinner, will start thinking. We tend not to have Sunday roast dinners in the summer but they are the easiest thing to make, though hot!

Must have some toast and later I think I might go back to bed - had nightmares all night so very patchy sleep.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

No plans here apart from upsetting the grumpy man by staying another day.

    Have a good day everyone.

Good morning all - a fresh if damp morning so far.

I've been listening to a couple of podcasts this morning whilst lazing in bed, now it's time for action!

DM has been fed and watered, she's riveted by the political news so is happily watching TV.

My plans are to collect a parcel from M&S - I needed short-sleeved Tshirts (well, three-quarter sleeved) so they are waiting for me. Then I'll go on to visit a friend for coffee and cake:j he's having other friends over for a late lunch so I'll go early to avoid the rush!

Lovely to see you Poppy - and glad that you're doing well.

Thoughts to those struggling and a Happy Sunday to everyone. Last one of July.

    Morning all

It rained for most of the day yesterday but its bright and sunny now I have stripped the beds and got the washing on a boil wash OH will remake the beds later.

Took my car in yesterday which turned into a bit of a faff, dd followed me over to the garage then I dropped car off and left the key then I jumped in her car and she took me to the hire car place where I had to pick up a courtesy car then I followed her home again, it took several hours and ate up most of the day, I will have to do it on reverse once my car is done !

BBQ for dinner tonight and I am going to parboil some sweet potatoes in their skin and then crisp the skins up on the bbq will do a huge salad and we have some lean pork steaks.

We will go out for our long walk later and stop for a cup of tea in a little cafe OH will have a bit of cake too, I shall try to resist !

We need to measure the conservatory windows later, the blinds in there have been there since we moved in and I hated them then, they are sort of a buff coloured roman blind in a velour material, well they dont go up and down properly anymore and two are broken completely so I am going to look for some more wipe clean ones and order some to be made I think.

Right better get on have good days all xx

Good Morning chums and so much more pleasant today as it's a good bit cooler thank goodness.
I think my lost sleep caught up with my yesterday afternoon as I had lunch around 12.30 and thought I'll just put my feet up and perhaps have a read of my new library book .... then my phone dinged with a text and crikey it was ten to four :)and DGS Jack wanted picking up at four from work :) so I swiftly got myself in gear and whizzed off down to get him. Good job he texted me or I would have been there longer :) but I felt so much brighter for my 'nanny nap'

Today I am using up odds and ends indoors and making a big pan of cauliflower and sweet potato curry as I had a good rummage in the freezer and found a bag of cauli so it will finish up my sweet potatoes nicely from the veg box.
I will probably chuck a few other veg from the freezer in there as well as I have a few odd leftover bags of veg that will help to bulk it out a bit and reduce some of the bits and pieces
Once made and cooled it will be portioned up in the take away boxes and go back to the freezer for using up over the next few weeks

I will get to defrost the blooming thing if its the last thing I do..

On the way back from dropping DGS off yesterday morning I nipped into MrTs and found a couple of big salmon fish cakes with sweet chilli filling reduced to £1.14, three huge pork chops reduced to £2.01, a couple of chicken kievs reduced to £1.18 so for £4.33 I have the basic building blocks of 7 dinners.
Got some nice apples and grapes as well so with what I already have in the fridge and what I got yesterday I have no more shopping to buy this side of my holidays.
I go away on the 17th August and I am out for a good few days before that in the evening, so I have done my menus already and only have about 12 actual evening meals to make. With a stash of curries, plus what I bought yesterday my next food shop will be when I come home on the 31st August. Happy days and a very low shopping spend for August I usually buy and cook a chicken the day before we go so its cold and can be used up on our first day at the holiday house to save having to do much on our first night there. But apart from that I have very little to buy at all.Anything left in the fridge will either go in the cool box with the chicken or I give to my neighbour who reciprocates when she goes on holiday as well.No food wasted if it can be helped :0

Right time to get a wriggle on and get the curry on the go. I found some puff pastry in the freezer as well so I may roll it out and make some cinnamon whirls to take to DDs late this afternoon as I am off to my usual Sunday dinner there.

Hope everyone has a great day and enjoys a little bit of a break from the excessive heat

    Cheers chums

  • Good (late) morning everyone!

Hugs to those who need them, happy birthday to those celebrating! :j

I'm still a little sick but it's much better already. Just a stuffy nose and the occasional coughing!

The weather is also much better, at around 20°C, and it's sooooo nice to have a breeze coming into your house. :p

Don't have much planned apart from listing a few more items on eBay :T

Hope everyone has a good Sunday!

    Morning :hello:
The sun is shining again here and it's warm already, so the patio doors and all the windows are open wide.
I had a bad night last night, I was still awake at 5am, I think I may have had an overdose of garlic..... garlic in the mediteranean veg and 2 slices of garlic bread . So I'm working on auto pilot today.
Sunday lunch with Dad is beef ( already in the slow cooker as I don't trust myself with oven cooking as it usually turns out tough :( ) with roasties, veg, yorkies and gravy. There are crumpets and a fruit strudel with custard/ice cream for tea.
Ok I'm off to prep the veg ready for lunch.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday. Hugs winging their way to anyone who is in need.
    nan xx

The weather is horrible today again and the forecast isn't good so we have decided to abandon our trip to Ross-on-Wye. Steve hasn't been too well the last couple of days so a week in the rain probably isn't a good idea. We've decided to try to be more spur of the moment and go away when we are free and the weather forecast is good.

The hog roast was great, nice to catch up with friends and the food was lovely. I had one of those moments though when someone came up and started talking to me and I couldn't remember where I knew her from. Luckily she mentioned church and I remembered her name, phew, I probably hadn't seen her for about 25 years.

We managed to offload my old (hardly used) bike last night as well, my friend's daughter-in-law is having it so that will free up a bit of the garage.

Quiet day again today, sewing, completing my samurai sudoku (5 puzzles in one) and watching F1 and the end of the Tour de France. I find the cycling fascinating to watch (not to mention all the scenery they show), it looks just like a crowd of men trundling along but the tactics going on are so interesting. I know, I'm pretty weird.
