O/S Daily Wednesday 24 July 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS2 now getting ready for work. DS2 settled and ok.
Dull, cloudy, wet underfoot and raining on and off - we had a few claps of thunder and some lightening around 4am, the rain hammered down for a few minutes then stopped and started - temperature doesn't feel to have dropped and it's not made the air fresher either! I have a basket of wet washing to go out which I'm going to peg out whether it's stopped raining or not - as it'll stop at some point and the washing will dry. Last night I pegged a load out at 6pm by 7pm it was dry - some of it was thicker items, jeans etc!
Dinner last night was pork loins, mash, veg and gravy. Tonight we'll be having something lighter, breaded chicken portions, ham, boiled egg, cheese, skinny chips, side salad, and coleslaw.
Work yesterday was steady I was working for the first time at the other office and that will be my shift there each Tuesday - I was concerned as Tuesday's are my short day and with the further distance to travel I'd lose the benefit of the short day - it does take me longer to get home, but it's not too bad, so hoping it'll continue in that way. Back to normal office today - hoping it's all ok there, as some colleagues now I'll only see them once a week or not at all one week then see them the next due to the change in the working rota. I feel quite ok with what I've been given. Last day at work this week, and I'm not working Saturday so a chilled day - temperature is due to drop after being very hot tomorrow.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone
As I am up I have put a load in the washing machine and will hung that on the line, I don’t think it will take long to dry it’s already very warm here.
We had the heavy storms forecast for during the night and it seems to have cleared the air a bit but is already warm and is supposed to get up to the mid 30s today.
I had a really nice day out yesterday. We went to the coast as planned and had a wander up and down the prom and then had a walk to the end of the pier. We found a pub at this resort last year which is really good value so returned there, and we weren’t disappointed.
Today I am going to pack up some rolls for lunch and take the train to another seaside town. It is far too hot in the house for me at the moment.
I can catch up on the housework when I get down if it has cooled down a bit.
Have as good a day as possible everyone.0 -
Good morning, I have not slept much because if the storm, woke at 2 to go to the loo and then kept being woken by the lightning, quite spectacular. Everything is wet and it is already hit and hazy but I think that will burn off. I shouldn't have to water things today at least.
I've got a hot wash on for towels.
My work plans have changed, I have some paperwork today, shouldn't take too long, then working Friday.
Hope others have managed a bit more sleep than me!I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
Its going to be another scorcher here yesterday it was unbearable in the kitchen it was far too hot for some of the clients so we let them sit down a bit early in the cool, when I got in my car it was 34 deg ! Thursday is supposed to be even worse apparently.
Pasta for dinner tonight with a large salad, OH will have garlic bread with his, its a nice light meal and quick and easy to cook in this heat.
I have got to make a roast in this heat today I shall be melting again I struggle to understand how people can eat a hot meal like that in the heat.
Washing to do tonight and a quick sweep round.
Have good days all xx
Please put some water out for the birds if you can xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We got the thunder and heavy rain in the night too but it doesn't feel any cooler for it sadly.
I wish I lived a bit nearer the coast HOLLY as it would be nice to get the sea breezes. Have a nice day out. It was horrendously hot in the coffee shop yesterday despite all the windows being wide open and we both settled on a cold lunch. I wanted the Ploughmans but off the menu for some reason! Settled on quiche, salad and baby potatoes. Ok but not as nice as the Cheesy Broccoli Bake! We then enjoyed strawberries and clotted cream as it was in the lunchtime offer!
The only job getting done today will be pegging out the washing and then trying to keep cool as another hot one is forecast.
I have the 2 youngest DGDs here to sleep tonight and then amuse tomorrow. That will be fun (not) as apparently it's to be even hotter!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all who need them, their carers and our absent friends. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning.
We had a hummdinger of a storm during the night.
Lots of lightning.
When we sat in the garden yesterday,we kept following the shade.
Still warm though. Going to be even warmer tomorrow.
2nd visit of the week to in laws today.
Holly pleased you had a good day at the seaside.
Enjoy your day out today.0 -
Good morning, it's wet and gloomy here, but still warm. It rained heavily through the night.
I got quite a bit of washing dried yesterday, but I can't bear to iron when it's this hot, it'll have to wait.
Today I would like to go to Du*elm, I want to look at curtains for the sitting room. I'm ashamed to say that I was supposed to be making some last year, and they still haven't happened - if I see some decent readymades I'll get them. It's sometimes as cheap to buy ready made now, I used to make all my own curtains. I still might make if I see some suitable fabric.
Dh is trying to fix one of the caravan taps, and having problems, I think it's coming between him and his wits. He spent all day yesterday in the caravan, taking the tap out, and trying to fit a new bit in it, without success. He came home and went straight on the internet, and he now thinks he can do it. The van could go to a dealer for fixing the tap, but at some ridiculous cost. If it comes to that we'll just have to bite the bullet and do it, but we'll see.
There's always something needing fixing somewhere, fortunately he's handy and can usually fix things.
Glad you had a nice day out yesterday Holly, hope you do get out today.
Speky, you're doing well with the no spend days.
DP1, hope your little granddaughter is improving - she's been through the mill.
Hope everyone has good days anyway, take care folks xx0 -
Morning all.
From being a dull and damp start the sun eventually blazed it's way through and shone all day -it was so hot!
Trip to the dentis was successful. The trays feel weird, I hope I get used to them soon as they are meant to be worn overnight. My car repair was also done and the car returned in the late afternoon. The weather was so hot that the paint dried in record time.
Today will be a surprise... I must take some stuff to a CS, go to the bank and post a large letter off. That's about it.
Thoughts to the poorlies and sad - happy Wednesday to all.0 -
Morning everyone
Just 2 more night shifts to go then weekend off till Tuesday. Travelling into work yesterday was so hot and that was after 5pm. Working with a different team tonight, not my team so will see how it goes.
Think the neighbours children broke up from school yesterday, there will be 6 children over the summer holidays as his girlfriend and her children have moved in and he has 3. I have the windows open but if it gets too noisy, windows will be shut and the fan on.
Holly - glad you had a good day.
Dp1 - hope you enjoy your holiday, glad dgd is home.
Redruby couldn’t work in a kitchen in this weather. I find travelling in it bad enough.
Hugs to anyone that needs/wants one. Take care. I’m off to try and sleep now.0 -
Morning everyone,
I left work sharpish yesterday. Partly so I could get to the post office in time to collect a parcel and partly due to the sauna that is our office. So then despite being home much earlier than usual, it was still far to warm to do much. So I had a relaxed evening. I then tried to sleep but couldn't stay cool, despite every window wide open. Was then woken with the thunder and lightning, which I love watching.
Fortunately no early rise for the gym this morning but instead I had physio. The update is another 4 weeks of rest, with plenty of stretches to strengthen the muscle in my knee. Not good news at all, as this is my 10th week out of action and I'm desperate to get back fit and into football again.
I work for a start-up, with a very small team, and we're hiring a guy who will be starting next week. We've invited him out for a meal tonight just to bed him in a bit, so I'm looking forward to that, although maybe not the anticipated spend. In the meantime, I'm melting in the office again. Our high glass windows and no air con mean that this is a green house in the sun. Awfully uncomfortable.
Didn't manage my NSD yesterday I was asked to buy milk for the office. Still on 13.
Stay cool and safe everyone!0 -
It feels fresher here atm and Steve has gone to the gym. It's air conditioned so he should be ok.
I have the dentist this afternoon and I'm a bit apprehensive because my previous, excellent dentist has left so this is a new man. I hope she comes back, I think she left to look after ailing parents so she might. She was very aware that my mouth is very sensitive and used to clean my teeth herself very gently instead of sending me to the hygeinist. I also need a new toothpaste prescription because I am allergic to commercial ones.0
