O/S Daily Wednesday 31 July 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and porridge whilst on here, DS2 settled and ok.

Dull, cloudy and damp underfoot this morning, has been raining on and off most of the night.

Dinner last night was LO turkey from Sunday's roast, LO HG new potatoes fried, marrowfat peas, yorkshire and gravy for DH, I had LO turkey, few new potatoes, boiled egg, LO baked beans - just didn't fancy hot meal. Remembered to get the chicken out to defrost - so tonight we'll have roast chicken portions, LO cauli/broc cheese, yorkshire, veg, pots and gravy - nothing is going to be thrown away.

Yesterday work wasn't too bad in the morning, then became busier as we had less staff in the afternoon and lots of unhappy customers due to the latest mail out. I'm working from my normal office today.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all.

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

Yesterday turned out to be a day of surprises. Firstly DM's GP phoned to ask if she could visit 'now' as she had an admin afternoon. The 'now' stretched to about 45 mins but it was good that she came. DM insisted on getting dressed and trekking to the living room for the visit - her first foray there for a month!

During the docs visit DM, out of the blue, asked about having a week of respite care to allow me to go home for a bit. Where that has been brewing I don't know! Anyway doc told me to contact the Social Work dept A week at home would be fab!

No sooner had the doc left than an ex-neighbour called round. He stayed far too long for DM even though she enjoyed chatting with him.

Today we are due very heavy rainfall. I've got to wait in this morning for an engineer who is coming to assess the roller blind in the spare bedroom. I want a remote unit fitted to it before the dark evenings starts.

Camelot will be in the air flying home from her long holiday. She's due to land tomorrow morning.

Thoughts with all those struggling. Happy Wednesday to all.
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off.

Wow GERS that's good news about DM and possible respite care. Hope it happens and you manage a week at home - it will feel like a little holiday for you. Fingers crossed.

As usual I had a lovely catch up with my Tuesday friend yesterday. The special was lasagne, salad and garlic bread and that tempted me. Not sorry, it was yummy.

Another day of rain in store for us AGAIN today! We had it on and off most of yesterday but didn't come off as bad as North Yorkshire who came off worse. Flash flooding and roads closed all over. Hailstones the size of pickled onions someone said! DD and girls still up at the caravan but she says they haven't been affected though been getting plenty of rain.

It's bus trip day for me. Just two of us today, the third can't make it. We think Skipton but the forecast might put some stallholders off setting up. Anyway we can always linger in the pub over a long and leisurely lunch if rain stops play! We'll enjoy our day whatever the weather!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. A wave to absent friends and soon it will be a welcome back to CAMELOT - she will have a lot to tell us. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Its a bit overcast here and much cooler than it has been but the sun is due to return later which will be nice.

Off to work today and I had the nice girl again yesterday and I have managed to get her for most of the next two weeks apart from two days which is fab.

We are making quiche's today small individual ones I think as one of the clients is allergic to onions so we can do some without for him.

Tonight we are having the truffle filled pasta with a lovely big salad and OH will have garlic bread, its such an easy simple meal.

Gers a week at home sounds just what you need atm xx

    Have good days all xx

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.
It's raining here, but I think it's worse over on the west side of the country.

Gers, i hope you do get a week "off", you deserve it. I wonder if one of your Mum's visitors has suggested it to her?

We had a great day visiting DS and family yesterday at their holiday cottage in Northumberland. The weather wasn't too bad either. We got home at 7.30 and were out again at 8.30 for the quiz.

I want to see DD and family today before they go back to the caravan, What with us being away and them being away I'll be forgetting what they all look like,

A bit of tidying is badly needed here, it'll get done today. I need to nip to the shops, but that won't take long.

Hope everyone has a good Wednesday
    Take care folks xx

    Good morning all

Trying to read this thread but it has gone very small on my laptop, about the middle 30% of the screen.
Anyone have any idea how I can fix it. Only have this problem on Forum pages

    Morning everyone,

Still quite clammy here despite the drizzle of rain.

I was in London yesterday so I left the house at 5.45am and arrived back at 10pm. Knackered. Had to buy some food and drink when I was there, some of it will be on expenses, some won't, so no NSD for me.

No gym this morning due my tiredness from yesterdays activities. Also intend on leaving work early so I can pack my bags for my family trip up north for a week! Can't wait. I'll be offline for the next week and half, relaxing, eating, playing. Living the life of luxury (on a budget).

Oh, and I finished July on 15 NSD's. Poor end to the month but hey-ho.

Gers - A nice suggestion and opportunity for a bit of deserved and guilt free 'you time'.
RR - I've said it before, I'll say it again, you're menus always sound delish!

Yes GERS I was watching the devastation earlier on the news. It seems to have mainly affected the Dales and particularly Swaledale, north of Skipton. I have checked and our bus route is fine and the bus service is operating as normal. The stoic attitude of the Grinton farmer they interviewed brought tears to my eyes. That's true Yorkshire spirit for you!

Sorry SO that's a problem I have never come across so can't help you. SPEKY have a wonderful family holiday up in the Highlands.

Gers, I hope you manage to get a week at home.

TA, enjoy your day, I hope it isn't too wet.

We had a very changeable day and it was windy yesterday. Steve had a new fence panel in the side path so he'd propped it up with a chimney pot that came from my parents house. Unfortunately it didn't hold and the pot got smashed, I was quite surprised how sad I was, it was an attractive Victorian pot as well.

We've no plans for today yet, I might have to go out somewhere so that I don't go completely stir crazy. I
