O/S Daily Friday 26 July 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy, overcast and cooler, we had some rain last night but not much and although it's cooler - not by much. Rain is forecast for the coming days.
DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, windows and back door open to try to capture some of the cooler air. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was hot quiche, ham, prawns, cheese, pork pie, coleslaw, hot new potatoes and side salad. Not sure about tonight, but will sort that when I shop this morning.
Yesterday I wasn't hugely productive, but I did get some jobs done, and those that I needed to get done. Got all the washing done, line dried and put away etc. I have a small amount in the WM at the moment, I'll peg it out and hope it dries. I'll be heading to the SM first thing to get the food shop done, then once home I won't have to go out again, so can just potter along at my own pace.
Take it steady everyone it's still really warm, drink plenty and remember the sun tan lotion x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Its been raining in the night so thankfully its a bit cooler this morning its meant to rain till lunchtime and then again tomorrow morning.
Off to work for me but its Friday and the weekend is looming, which I cant wait for !! Will have a G & T tonight when I get in !!
Weighed myself this morning and I have lost another 3lb which takes my total to 1st 10lb I am very pleased so far and still eight weeks till my holiday so will keep going.
OH has got a pizza tonight with salad and I shall have a Jacket potato with beans and a small bit of cheese and salad so no great effort to cook.
Right I had better get on have good days all xx0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
We had a short but heavy spell of rain overnight and things feel a bit fresher this morning. It is less hot and I'm thankful for that because travel on the bus to and from today's appointment can be trying, more so if it is very warm.
Like nmlc, I'm sitting here with the door open, I've had tea, toast and marmite.
I don't need to do any washing today unless someone suddenly decides to bring me another pile if forgotten washing.
I've fed the birds but that should really be fed the wildlife. So far, I've had 2 squirrels, 1 little rat, 2 magpies and 2 wood pigeons. I think they have left a bit, so perhaps the little birds will get some today. I live in hope.
I will check back later to see how everyone is, for now I must iron a top to go to work - was going to do that last night but thought any extra heat would just be too much so I went and had an extra shower instead. Much nicer than ironing.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possibleI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.
It's going to be another hot day I think, yesterday was roasting, even here. Though late yesterday afternoon we went to a little seaside place a few miles away, and the breeze became a bit chilly I thought. It looked really stormy, with dark clouds gathering, so we hastened back to the car in case we got a soaking.
However nothing happened! Got home and it was the same here, but again, no rain. We had some nice fish and chips when we were there though, so that was a change.
DH has admitted defeat with the tap in the caravan, but the owner of the storage facility where we keep the van said his son can do it, so we're pinning our hopes on him.
I'm just pottering today, but I really must tackle the ironing, there's quite a pile now. Even if I make a start it's something. When I was first married I used to iron everything, pants, bras, I was young and daft. My enthusiasm wore off years ago!
There's a bag to take to the charity shop, and a bit of shopping to do. I don't know what to do for tonight's meal, I get phases when I'm all mealed out and this is one of them. There's plenty of stuff in the freezer, I'll have to force myself on.
Visiting a friend tonight, and that's it really for today.
Hope everyone has a good day
Take care folks xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The promised rain for us never arrived last night and indoors it still feels as hot as ever, despite windows and doors being open. It's looking a bit overcast so maybe it will rain later than forecast.
No Friday tidy will get done today as the DGDs are still here and will be here until DD finishes work and goes home to pack the car.. Then they are all off over to the caravan for a week as she will be off work till next Friday. She asked me if I wanted to go with them but I settled for peace and quiet at home instead!
I feel a bit annoyed as the window cleaner came yesterday with his son "helping". The son did some of the downstairs windows and I didn't notice till after I had paid him and they had departed, but they look worse than before they came! Words will be spoken next time, especially if the useless son is with him again!
Today will be what it is when the girls get up. No plans! Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care the carers and a wave to absent friends. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
It was hotter than ever last night and we had the fan blowing all night. Woke to rain though and I too am sitting with the door open and the lovely fresh air blowing over me.
We went to a local pub to eat because I really couldn't be bothered to cook, I had sea bass which was lovely.
I'm just going to go and clean the bathrooms in case it warms up again and I won't want to do anything.0 -
Good morning everyone,
Sounding like a broken record but it's still absolutely pipping hot. Actually I'm finding going to the gym is the best place to go as they do have air con!! So I went twice yesterday and I plan to go twice today too.
No spends yesterday took me to 15, so I am on track to break my own record. Unfortunately however, my spend days have been a bit too spendy, so it's not been a particularly good month financially. And to contradict myself 1 more time, it's my birthday today and I opened the cards I got to be grateful to get some checks/cash. So It'll all balance out.
I've no plans this weekend which is absolutely fine by me. Hopefully the weather is similair so that I can actually go out and enjoy it instead of cooking in an office.
Stay cool and hydrated everyone!
RR - I tried your water bottle technique but i actually found it too cold would you believe. Plus, I wasn't under the covers to feel any benefit. I might need to teak my technique.0 -
Happy birthday Speky.0
-
Good morning folks.
It was hot all night here with another scorcher on the cards.
Happy Birthday Speky. Will there be cake?
Things are tense here again... DM is very critical and negative which builds up with me! Then I get accused of being 'too sensitive' it'll smooth out soon enough. I didn't go out at all yesterday so will do so today.
Hugs to all those in need. Happy Friday to all.0 -
Good Morning chums and Happy Birthday to Speky, golly it was uncomfortable last night I too had the fan on all night with the bedroom windows open and the air felt like soup ,it was horrible .
DGS Henry along with his fellow workers were sent home early as it really was too hot to be working in the open air yesterday. The company decided that its groundworks crews were in danger of severe dehydration. But they will be paid as normal which is good ,although I think most of them would happily have forgone their wages just to get out of the heat.
In Kent yesterday afternoon it really was quite nasty.I walked across to put my prescription into the chemist and the heat dried up my mouth within a few minutes and most of the shops in our little precinct were empty.
My eldest DD as part of her job had to visit the local bus station in Chatham and its built of glass and folk were feeling really quite unwell, in fact two of the staff had passed out.Her boss said to send them all home and close the offices and building, so she did. One lady was quite poorly.
It was exceptionally uncomfortable for so many people.Although we had a little rain in the night it almost dried on the pavements within minutes. The air is slightly better this morning and I think the high today will only be around 27c which after yesterday is almost arctic
I'm just about to take DGS Jack to work and he works in a local shopping mall in a coffee shop ,but at least its air conditioned in there I may have a look in the M&S as their food hall has had a refurb and I have a couple of vouchers I can use in there, so I will probably get some nice fruit.
Hope everyone is OK and not suffering too much from the heat , the good thing about the UK is it doesn't last for long and by tomorrow it should be a lot more bearable at least.
Right time to get a wriggle on
Have a good Friday chums ,only three more weeks to go then I am off to my beloved IoW for the annual family holidays
Cheers chums

We have had rain overnight, I have both the front and back doors open to let some air in.
Yesterday was awful, I had the fan on aoo day and half the night, I have bought a second fan for our bedroom, save me changing them over before we go to bed. It should arrive today.
We were going to see my quilting friend, but she has just rung and called off, she is not well at all. Will not have the Dr. she is afraid he will send her into hospital.........she hates hospitals with a passion!!
Just going to have a steady day..............0
