O/S Daily Monday 29 July 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy and overcast but dry underfoot and no rain forecast for today.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Lunch yesterday was bacon wrapped turkey joint, roasties, HG new potatoes, cauli/;broc cheese, carrots, swede, HG green beans, peas, yorkshires, stuffing and gravy - lovely it was too, and there's LO's in the fridge. Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.
Back to work today for me, I'm interested to see what happens as I only have a partial set of keys, so can't get in and get on until a certain time, so if my colleague does her usual of turning up late there won't be enough time to get the job done we're supposed to - I won't be taking the blame. We only have 1 entrance door at the moment that we can use, but it's automatic set by a timing control within the whole building, so I can't just let myself in like I could before, but our doors into the office are being changed and then we'll have a key for those so then we'll use that and that should be better.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting off NMLC.
It's dull, damp and dreary here, as it has been for the last couple of days. What a change from last week.
We've had a quiet weekend, just doing jobs in the house and garden. I've made a new cover for the caravan tv, we've got a small flat screen one. The last cover was a bit too snug, as I'd made it for a slightly smaller tv. I've padded the front of the cover with polyester wadding -it travels in the bottom of the wardrobe when we're on the road, and the cover keeps it safe from knocks.
This morning I'm visiting a friend nearby - I haven't seen her for a few weeks because we've been away, and she's had other commitments, so it will be nice to catch up.
I must do some shopping as well, apart from bread and veg I haven't shopped for a week, been living out of the freezer. I got some pork shoulder chops out last night and I'll do them in the slow cooker. I also have a birthday cake to make for my youngest Ds, who is 40 tomorrow.
That's it really - I should do some washing as well, but I won't get it dry outside, and we don't have the heating on so won't get it dry indoors either. I've got a tumble dryer, but not everything is tumble dryable, if you see what I mean. I'll do some and put in the dryer what I can anyway.
Hope everyone has good days.
Take care folks xx0 -
Morning all
Nice bright sunny day here again meant to get hot again later but not as hot as last week thankfully !
Back to work today and my colleague is on holiday for two weeks so I will get someone else to cover, I hope it someone decent, if its one of the newer young staff you have to do all the thinking for them as well as the clients so you send up organising and thinking for up to six people which is exhausting !
Something with chicken tonight I might do the creamy garlic chicken as I really enjoyed that will do some rice with it if I do.
I read online that coconut oil is good for an itchy flaky scalp so I smothered my hair in it yesterday rubbing it all into the scalp and wrapped a towel round and left it for 1/2 hr, I had quite a job getting it out and had to wash my hair three times, but my hair is so soft and its really help the itching and flakes so top tip for those that suffer.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Been a rainy night but forecast dry all day now. More rain to come throughout the week though. Where's it all coming from!
I think the cooler weather went to my head yesterday! I cleaned the oven till it shone, then cleaned the fridge (hanging head in shame it sure needed it), stripped bed and got that lot washed, boiled a piece of gammon and made lentil and bacon soup with the stock, then after lunch attacked the ironing pile and re-made the bed! I don't know where the sudden burst of energy came from!
The freezer never got defrosted but plan on doing that today! And if it does keep fine I must go out and do a bit of dead-heading and weeding. Everything looks a bit battered out there with all the rain so hope it perks up again.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need, the carers and absent friends. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

In France.
Redruby think I might order that book, need to lose at least half a stone prefably a little bit more though.
Might try and get out in the garden today as well.
Hugs to anyone that needs/wants one. Take care and enjoy your day0 -

Good morning,
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend.
For me, it was deliberately quiet and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The rain didn't allow for much outdoor fun but I welcomed the cooler temperatures. I tried the local swimming pool for the first time yesterday as it's a type of cardio which doesn't hurt my knee but the facilities weren't up to much and I stupidly went at a time which was bouncing with kids, too.
A busy few days ahead. Long day in work today with yoga tonight, tomorrow I'm in London all day and on Wednesday evening, I get the train back to Scotland for a week in Aviemore with the family. So I need to cram in as much work as possible in my 2 days in the office so I can truly switch off.

Good morning everyone :hello:
Been up for hours and hours but managed to knit another chunk of my rainbow scarf. Gave up for now as my hands kept cramping. I saw Steve and Phoebe off to their respective works and I am getting ready for a visit from my friend and also the nurse is due to call in today as well.
Steve took some mince out of the freezer for me so I think we will have spaghetti Bolognese for dinner tonight but I will pack the sauce with loads of veg which will cheer my children up no end...not!
It's quite nice here at the moment weather wise but tomorrow is forecast for heavy rain and thunderstorms. I think we are having the grand children staying so I will have to think of some rainy day activities for them. Baking is always popular and I have a few games for them to play as well.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good morning, a beautiful day here, clear skies and a decent breeze so I've got washing dancing on the line.
I've things to do, some work, some gardening but the grass is still soaking wet so I'll have to leave that until later.
We are having beans on toast tonight for a change.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all,
Hope you got in work nmlc
Speky, Aviemore with family sounds great.Enjoy and unwind
Here's hoping for a useful helper RR
TA- we also blitzed the kitchen yesterday, sunshine has a lot to answer for
Hugs for peeps needing one x
We have flood warnings, the local paper showed pics of some of the local rivers with high levels, the Irwell was one ,that flooded a village back in 2015 when we were, our little river/stream after quite a few miles joins it.We went down the steps at the front to have a look at ours ,it was a raging torrent. The new culvert that now goes under our road feeds into it near the bottom of the steps- I am so glad and thankful that all the hard work and disruption for 16 months is now paying off, especially when I saw how much water was coming out of the pipe
I've got quite a busy week ahead,I'm meeting old work colleagues for lunch tomorrow, then DH and I are off to The Lowry in the evening, cousins get together Wed, watching DGodsons band in Manchester Thursday so probably a rest on Friday
Right ,off to set the bread going, then some washing.I think I'll do pasta bake for tea,not one of DH's favourites but the others like it and I don't do it often;)
Hope you all have a good week x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0
