Turkey Joint Question
Hi Folks, We have ordered a 4kg turkey breast joint to feed the family on Christmas day. In order to free up space in the oven for all the other bits and bobs I have decided to cook the joint in the morning then let it rest before slicing and sticking in the slow cooker on low with gravy. I even thought of cooking it on…

Weekly Flylady Thread 10th December 2018
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Unexpectedly defrosted leg of lamb.
Note to self- get rid of the extension plug that that has three switches, one that accidentally got switched off defrosting the contents of my freezer.:T The good news it only contained emergency frozen veg and a reduced piece of top rump ( now roasting) and a leg of lamb. I need to cook it tonight but I don't fancy…

'Nice' big mugs?
Afternoon All, I'm looking for either a set or 6 'matching' big mugs. I think the old SportsDirect mugs are a great size but look awful. I've had a trawl through amazon and there are a few 'novelty' mugs (size matters or Big F'ing Mug type) for £10 each and they're no better to my mind... So... anyone know of any nice mugs…

Store cupboard - what's in yours
Having recently been housebound for nearly 2 weeks due to illness I am thinking of what I should have in my store cupboard. To get some idea I was wondering what others have in their store cupboard. I am looking for things to cover events such as illness, bad weather and even our uncertain political future when there might…

Using Tower Airwave
I have just been given a Tower Airwave, but most of the instructions refer to cooking various types of meat. As a vegetarian this is of little use to me, and I was wondering if anyone had good veggie recipes that I could cook quickly in this. Also cooking different veg. from scratch.

Olive oil
I understand the difference between ordinary olive oil and extra virgin, but lots of supermarkets now have higher priced 'Greek' or 'Italian' etc extra virgin. What's the advantage - if any? Are they way better than plain extra virgin?

Christmas lunch prep
I’m looking to complete on my house next Friday (14th December). Not by choice that it’s so close to Christmas, it’s been ongoing since July! Considering there’s no chain it’s a ridiculous amount of time and I’m pushing very hard to be in by Christmas. Anyway, my sister and my nephew (aged 7) wants to come to stay for Xmas…

How can i secure large terracotta oil jars from being pinched ?
As above really. I have 2 large expensive decorative oil jars that I want to put in my garden but don't want them stolen and need some ideas as to how I can secure them down. I've thought about weighing them down with bricks but these could be tipped out and a couple of big guys would be able to lift them Drilling holes in…

Figgy pudding - Fresh figs
I don't suppose anyone has a recipe for a figgy pudding that uses fresh figs? I had lots of figs from my tree this year, and froze them with the intention to make a figgy pudding at Christmas but I cannot find a recipe that uses fresh figs. I'm guessing I cant just substitute due to the water content. I guess the other…
