O/S Daily Saturday 8th December 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Very dark, blustery but not raining at the moment.

DH and I enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I'm showered, dressed and just eating brekkie as I'm working this morning.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips, beans/peas for the menfolk and a frozen giant couscous and veg stir fry for me. We were later back from shopping than we'd hoped, traffic was awful and it took us longer to queue through our town to take family member home (I had to go there as I'd left my car there) than it did to get back from the shopping outlet. Shopping all went ok although family member got quite confused on several occasions and was asking where another family member who hadn't gone with us was, and majority of the time they were generally confused.

I didn't buy anything, I do need to do some more xmas shopping but just wasn't interested yesterday and can go back on my own and do what I need to.

Later today after work we'll be going over to mum and dad's as bro is coming over so would like to see him and I'm hoping he can take some prezzies as youngest sis and her family won't be this way before or at xmas.

Keep safe and well x

Organza_Lace That's so selfish! They should be shutting themselves in the room with the windows wide open (if you're happy with that), or going outside. This has made me quite angry, and I'm a smoker myself. The non-smoker comes first – especially if they have asthma or something – there's always somewhere to go that's away from others if I fancy a cig.

Taff I was cross when I read your post too, is that a normal thing for patients to have to do now? I hope you get on with it OK xx

I've ordered the Soap & Glory offer x3. Also found some toiletries that master tru likes, so ordered that too. And the S&G body butter was 3 for 2, I know some people that love it so I ordered 6 of that for birthday presents next year :D When I got to the payment page, it said sorry, the free gift is out of stock. The freebie was earphones, I had no idea there was supposed to be free earphones and I wouldn't have used them anyway, lol. But my basket also had two free gift boxes, I have no idea what's in them. My trip to town (at some point next week) is now going to be much easier, I might even enjoy pottering about buying Christmassy things - but I doubt it :D

The decs are down out of the loft, I'm not going to throw myself into tinselating like a mad thing, like I usually do – and like to do :D This year I'm going to potter with it. It'll probably take about three days, what with having to stop to watch Christmas films and eat chocolate, lol.

Must do some washing first, it's piled up a bit.

  • Morning folks and thanks nmlc. Just caught up on yesterday's posts and -TAFF I am disgusted on your behalf. Surely it won't turn out to be as bad as you fear. x

A horrible blustery, wet and wild morning here. Yuk.

Well today is the day for "Margot" and "Darcey". Opening day of the panto (Aladdin) which runs until the end of January. The DGDs are not in every single performance as there are two Sunbeam teams who alternate performances. Still very time consuming though for both them and their parents and chaperones ferrying them back and forth.

There was a bit about it on our northern news yesterday, showing Biggins, Billy Pearce and Simon Webbe and then a clip with the Sunbeams but it was such a brief clip I couldn't pick anyone out!

We are going to tonight's performance and have booked a meal beforehand. It will be an emotional time for us all without Bob with us for the first time. He was so proud of his DGDs.

I am still trying to summon up some enthusiasm for Christmas and can't bring myself to write any cards let alone shop for presents. After buying a few things for the great nieces and nephews the job stopped as fast as it started and I am at a standstill again. DD got all my Xmas decs down from the loft before she went to Munich and they are all still upstairs in the boxes. I can't bring myself to trim up.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely who need them. Take care xx

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for starting us off nmlc and thanks to Tru for the lovely carol.

TA - I hope you manage to really enjoy the performance, your DGDs gave Bob so much pleasure and love. Hold fast to the good memories.

My DM didn't make it to the dentist yesterday, she was very tachycardic for most of the morning and felt rotten. Today she wants to go to the optician so fingers crossed.

After a fairly quiet day weather-wise yesterday today is already blustery. I can hear the wind whirling round DM's building. I'm going to go shopping early doors.

Christmas hasn't really started well here. I've bought a bottle of wine for DM's cleaner so I'd better get something for mine!

I hope everyone is doing OK. Happy Saturday.

    Hello everyone.

    Thinking about both TA's and Ger's posts, it's understandable that it's d
a challenge to deal with Christmas preps, whether recently bereaved or dealing with a shifting situation in a loved one's health.

I've found a long term condition has nudged me over the years to simplify and sort out in my head self imposed expectations v others' expectations in the light of what's realistic in a given context. It's easier for me re Christmas because I have no close family nearby these days.

Sometimes it's frustrating dealing with what you can't change, and I really admire you, dumpling for the way you handle your difficulties, likewise taff. That's a very unfair scenario you've been confronted with. Worth a phone call to your GP to see if they can arrange some support from practice nursing staff?

Mrs SD, glad to read you and MrSD have enjoyed your time together whilst your sister was away. How nice to have the bathroom freshened up in time for the Christmas season. MrSD sounds a real treasure, and it sounds like he likes to keep busy around the house and garden. Definitely a good'un!

Wow JackieO, you're one busy lady. It'll be Christmas Day before your feet touch the ground!

Later today I'm going to run a different DVD in the TV DVD which I fixed, just to make sure it's behaving itself. A good excuse to chill out and watch something for a couple of hours. Coffee club this morning as usual.

Wishing everyone the best day possible. xxx

I was on the tele last night and I missed seeing it, extremely annoyed with myself. I don't have a TV and don't pay for a licence, I watch things on catch up but not BBC, not allowed. I was on BBC Look North at about 6.45pm ish. I was at my friends house waiting for it, but I didn't know at the time that there are two Look North channels, Yorkshire and Humberside. Not having a TV for many years I have lost touch with it all. Anyway, I was watching Yorkshire, and I was on Humberside, so missed it. :o  :(

  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread nmcl and hugs to all those in need, especially those dealing with berevement, illness and family's that are being a PITA. Some days I don't post but I always read particulary in December as I enjoy Tru's carols and songs so very much. They are the only Christmassy thing I see as CHS hates christmas so much.

    Have good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning

TA hope all goes well with the panto tonight

OL well done on putting your foot down ...they know whos boss :D

Tru I managed to resist the S+G set as I still have loads of the contents left from other years and dont need any as pressies but it was a close one. Loving the carols

Really need to start thinking of some Christmas to do lists but cannot muster up an ounce of energy for it. I'm away straight after the day so no point cooking loads and I have managed to skim my present list down to just a few close friends. Anyway ill have a word with myself and make a start soon.

Was going to hit the hairy bikers book today but everything I chose was missing stuff so Ill chose something then make a list for a shop.
Today I will stick with freezer stuff though.

Saturday routine today although house pretty tidy so a quick lick and promise then it may be a film.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday and dont get too stressed

    Morning all

Nice bright day here atm and meant to stay nice I have a towel load in the wash so will hang it out for a while.

I went shopping with dd yesterday and managed to finish my Christmas shopping :D, I will need to get two fresh things for my in laws 'hamper' but will do that nearer the time.

A few weeks ago I left the cleaners money out, she gets £25 per week but I only had £30 on me (no fivers) so I left the money out with a note saying I would leave £5 less the following week as I had no change, she was fine with this, well last week the same thing happened I left £30 on the side without a note assuming that she would realise and this week left £20, I got a text from her while I was out saying that the money was short and that she would pick it up next week, I messaged her back explaining that there was £30 last week and she is arguing the point !! saying that there was only £25 !! I know there wasn't as I said to my OH that I would have to leave her the £30 !! anyway I explained all this to her and Ive not heard from her since !! I really would never short change anyone I pride myself on my honesty and this has quite upset me, I have no idea if he is coming back next week as she has not replied ! Oh well I know that I am being honest the rest is up to her !

Today I am going to sit and wrap the presents, OH is going out to do his Christmas shopping (my present ) and he can also do the food shopping while he is out, so I shall have a day at home, I am working tomorrow so a short weekend for me.

TA hope the panto goes well tonight xx

Gers hope mum is ok xx

Taff hope the op goes well and you do get some help !!

Mrs SD I hope your DSis does not ruin the peace !! :D

    Have good days all xx
