O/S Daily Thursday 6th December 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still really dark here, damp underfoot as rained on and off most of yesterday and that's the forecast for the coming days, not too cold though at the moment.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he may want to go for a run but he has gym this morning.

Dinner last night was chicken, chips/jacket potato and beans. Not sure what we're having tonight so need to sort that whilst I'm in town doing other chores his morning. I also have to go into work for a training session

Work yesterday turned out to be a bit manic, we were short staffed yet again, and we were busy, still had customers coming in at 3.59pm - but managed to get everyone sorted - it then took me ages to get home in the traffic as a set of traffic lights have gone wrong and traffic was queued up everywhere - it had taken me over 30 minutes to get in to work yesterday morning. Hoping they get it sorted soon as it just causes a nightmare more so than usual.

I have the "to do" list and need to get through as much as I can today, I haven't go all the xmas prezzies yet nor the food sorted. DS1's birthday is this weekend, I can't give us any idea what he wants, so it'll be money in a card, hate that but not much choice.

Keep safe and well x

snoozer I hope Steve's appointment goes well today, thinking of you xx

I've topped up the daffodil pots. I was so neat, didn't spill even one crumb of compost on the floor. A couple of hours later I let Scampi out for a wee, he spotted the new compost and decided to dig through it all :D

Scampi has decided that people he likes are not allowed to leave the house – visitors as well as us. He used to do this – but not in such an angry way, it seems like rage this time – and I managed to stop it eventually. He barks and spins and tries to stop you leaving. So I said he's going to have to go back to wearing a collar in the house and keeping the lead handy until I can stop the door-dashing. Mr tru isn't happy about this and said he wouldn't like it so Scamp won't like it, the collar isn't fair on him and will irritate him. I said that plenty of dogs wear one in the house, it's quite a normal thing to do. And stop humanising the dog, he's happier when he's treated like a dog because he IS a dog and the reason problems keep coming up is because he's treated like a toddler (there's a long list of things that mr tru does that he shouldn't, most of them boil down to the fact that he ignores doggy signals that say 'leave me alone', etc). This went down like a lead balloon and there was a row. I'm getting the silent treatment now and I have to say, it's rather lovely :D

I've sorted wrapping paper, gift bags, tags and tape. It's all there neatly on the table but no-one can decide what they want so there are no actual things to wrap :D

I've been up since 4am so I'm expecting to fall asleep on the sofa this afternoon. Not sure what to this morning, everything is pretty much up to date. Maybe go through the freezers and see what's what. Then crochet :D

Thank you nmlc for starting us off

Gentle hugs for all those who want or need them.

Thank you for all your kind thoughts. I think other things going on at the moment made things feel worse.

Today I think we'll go to the garden centre, don't want to buy anything but it's nice just looking, hope there aren't too many there and we can have coffee.

Not much planned, shopping all done. Christmas is a bit of a non event, will visit mother Christmas morning and probably won't see anyone until new year.

    Take care all

    Morning Everyone

Not as cold here this morning but it's pouring down. The bedding has just finished so I'll hang that up on the rack.

Busy day at work yesterday so was glad I had booked to have a back and shoulder massage, it was so good and I felt quite chilled for the rest of the evening! I slept quite well apart from a coughing fit and woke up to the alarm.

I really must do some shopping after work, I've had to resort to buying a salad on the way to work and DS1 and the DGC are coming for the weekend so needs must!

So pleased to hear that Lee has plans for the future dumpling, hope he had a good birthday.
Well done to your DMs Dr Gers.
    Enjoying the Christmas songs tru!
    Hugs to those struggling.

Have a good day, take care. XX

Hi nmlc, thanks for starting us off.

I had a great time with my friend yesterday, but the lunch had comedy elements, notably the panic caused by looking at the restaurant's only clock, thinking my friend would have to pass on pudding as he had a bus to catch (one every 2 hours). Then looking at my watch and realising the clock was still on BST... The waiter said that quite a few people had commented about it, but said it can't be changed!! The whole thing was a bit shambolic, but we enjoyed each other's company.

I was home in plenty time for my afternoon tea party, one visitor was allergic to cats but was happy when mine was encouraged through to the bedroom.

I've got a query on the tech board as there's a DVD stuck in my combined TV and DVD player. Repair guy said it can't be repaired and I should buy another one. My query is can I simply buy an external DVD player and use the existing TV with it. It would save some expense and be more environmentally friendly, if it's doable.

Scrabble this morning, and hoping to swim this afternoon. Then a quiet evening, must get on with the knitting!

Food wise, after my we fed day yesterday, I just had soup in the evening. More of that for lunch, and a stir fry this evening with some of the beautiful veg which came in yesterday's veg box.

December and January are such dark months, no wonder we need a festival of lights to lift the gloom! I'm enjoying seeing Christmas trees and lights gradually appearing in people's windows. It is very cheery and often charming.

I hope everyone, poorlies, carers, careworn and all has the best day possible. xxx

    Morning :)

Seems a bit warmer today my morning trip to the bin was quite pleasant :D

Busy day yesterday work wise and much the same today. Plan is to crack on this morning then I can have some me time later on this afternoon.(Read Christmas film time :o) As next week I probably wont get any site work, I need to make sure I do what i can now to fill the coffers.

I grabbed a freezer bag out last night thinking it was 5 bean chilli until defrosted when i found out it was liver :o Quick change of plan and it was liver crushed new potatoes and greens. Must get better at labelling. Will try to find the chilli today as i have the wraps and dips ready.

Right work time ...have a good day all

Heard from Holly and shes still going through the mill :( She has had to go back home now so is really feeling being alone. Her care coordinator was round yesterday so at least she is getting some support but I really wish i lived closer its very worrying:(
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC.

I don't know what's been the matter with me the last few days. I feel beyond tired, more exceedingly weary with absolutely no energy whatsoever. I can't sleep at night but could spend all day dozing on the sofa.

Eldest DGD to ship off to school in a bit. The two performers have no school as rehearsals start earlier today and tomorrow. In readiness for opening night Saturday! Great excitement. Just the performers back for late tea and sleepover tonight. Eldest going to her diving club after school, her dad picking her up and then she is staying there tonight. The kids have been like nomads this week, staying here, there and everywhere since Sunday! DD is back from her Munich trip tomorrow thank goodness! I don't know if all the bags that were left here Sunday got to their rightful places but the last of them was picked up yesterday!

I did a massive stock up shop last week but need to shop for fridge stuff and fruit today at some point. May just pop to Sainsbobs as it's the less manic of the sm's hereabouts. The days of independent grocers and greengrocers are long gone here sadly which is a shame. We have the only market that doesn't have a fruit and veg stall, can you believe it!

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely who want them. Take care all xx

    Good morning everyone.

Snoozer gentle hugs to you and Steve.

    Thanks for the ditty Tru.

My day yesterday was smooth. I resisted going to the shops after work as there's nothing I need. The woodburner was still glowing in the morning so I managed to keep it going, stoked it up as I went out and the house was still warm enough when I got home.

I filled up all the bird feeders and squirrel box - Tufty has learnt how to lift the lid since I propped it open with a twig. A previous one used to come during the day, this one must be visiting early mornings. Still no empty shells so all the nuts are being buried, it's a pity as squirrels usually forget about them. :rotfl:

Today I'm off down the road. DM's GP phoned me last night to say that she's prescribed Ensure supplements for DM to take when she can't face food. :( Made me a bit sad.

Right, off to face the day. I wish everybody a happy Thursday.

  • Good morning all,

Yesterday after work I disappeared home, done some bits and bobs and managed to sit down for the football - which was a waste of 90 minutes. Went to bed soon after. Football training with my new team was cancelled due to a lack of numbers.

No gym this morning as I've got a game of 7-a-side tonight, unless it gets cancelled too. I think I'll make a stab at wrapping presents tonight too.

Midgie - I would assume you could, yes. Don't take my word for it though.
Gers - What colour squirrel is it? Safe travels.
