This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Didn't manage to get to sleep until gone 2 this morning and awake again at 5.
Not sure what we are doing today, haven't the energy to do much. A nice roast lunch and a lazy day sounds good.

Morning all
Up early for me on a Sunday as I am working todaywould rather not go in but had better show willing, I am working in the new caf! today and don't know how to do anything at all
so I shall be next to useless but at least Ive don't it !
OH in charge of domestics today, he is going to go food shopping and cook dinner, I don't know what we are having it depends what he buys :rotfl:
Thanks for all the comments re the cleaner, I cant really give her a receipt as I am never here when she comes, but I shall leave her a note and text her if there is any change in future, that's assuming she comes back on Friday because I have heard nothing from her at all !!
I sat and did my most hated job yesterday and wrapped the presentsI would honestly pay someone to do the job,
still its done now and there are just a few left for OH's parents which he can do !!
Right I had better get ready for work, have lovely Sundays all xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks SILVER-OLDIE for the new thread. A rubbish night for me too but what's new there?!
We had a lovely day yesterday. Hit a setback when we learned Northern rail were striking AGAIN so instead of going over by train as planned we booked a taxi. Not much more expensive than the rail fares between 4 of us and travelled in comfort!
We had a drink in the City Vaults (!!!) before meeting the others in our group in Zizzi for a meal. I always have Arancini and then Pasta Della Casa and it didn't disappoint.
Then headed for the Alhambra, it's such a beautiful theatre. The panto went without a hitch, amazing when you consider it was the opening day! All the Sunbeams were faultless and had beaming smiles on their faces throughout. We were a bit worried about youngest DGD, it being her first panto, but she absolutely loved it and can't wait for Tuesday when she is back on stage again! Christopher Biggins gave them all a musical cardboard Christmas tree which they were chuffed to bits with.
Today I want to make a pan of my fave soup - Red Pepper and cheese - as I got a big bag of red peppers ys and don't want them going to waste. I might write the family cards today but blow everybody else, I'm sure most folk will understand that I am feeling far from festive this year.
Just been watching I'm a Celeb on catch up (ff bits) and then tried to watch Strictly on the IPlayer but it didn't want to play and kept stopping. Grr! I'll try again in a bit.
Have a good folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all and thanks for the start SO, hope you get the quiet, gentle day you want.
I didn’t manage to get on yesterday as was stupidly busy, racing around and met myself on the way backMy day included two social outings, an afternoon cuppa with four pals who had their horses with Lu in the old yard and then out to dinner in the evening with youngest DSS and his gf. All enjoyed and lovely to catch up with everybody’s news. My eldest DSS left a card & a box of chocs to say thank you for letting him stay, inside the card were tickets to see the Strictly live show next February so very thoughtful of him.
Today, apart from getting over to see the lovely Lu I have no plans thank goodness, well apart from listening to the Archers omnibus and watching Strictly of course.
Glad to hear that the panto went well TA.
Thank you for the Xmas song TRU.
Have a good Sunday and take care folks x0 -
Good morning everyone, glad to read TA, that you had such a nice time and that all went smoothly with the performance. Lainey, what a thoughtful gift and a treat to look forward to.
Coffee club went well yesterday, then I stocked up on cat litter and cat food for the next few weeks. It's good to know I have the needful in whatever the weather decides to do.
Then I knitted, which knocked off the plan to check out the DVD function on the TV - I can't knit and follow a film, it has to be one of the other. Maybe this afternoon, we'll see.
The Sunday stroll is happening in one of my favourite locations, with a nice cafe to replenish afterwards. All of us are singles, most with offspring based overseas, so it's a great Sunday tradition and very cheery.
Food - undecided, but I have some YS turkey mince in the freezer, so will defrost that and do something with it. Veg from the veg box needs converted into soup too. The electric pressure cooker makes that easy these days.
Ilona, it's a pity you missed your appearance on TV but you can take comfort in knowing you've spread the message about living creatively without trashing the planet or the budget.
Wishing everyone the best day possible. xxx0 -
Morning all.
I've been lying in bed just watching the sky change, it's not quite light yet though it's coming. I'm desperate for a wee but know I'll come back to a cold bed so am reluctant. The solution is to put on the electric blanket though that brings a different kind of reluctance. I'll just lie here a bit longer until I can't wait any more.
Once I got hone and unpacked yesterday I cooked chicken breasts in Parma ham and asparagus. There's one left for today. My TV viewing was only SCD and IAC. I don't usually watch IAC so found it pleasant to see 'nice' people being lovely.
My plan for today is to defrost a venison shank and get it in the slow cooker. For that I need to go out to get carrots and leeks for the 'bed' - not sure that's going to happen!
TA - what a great report about the performance yesterday.
Tru - thanks for the ditty.
WeeMidgie - I'm sure woolly hats are needed today. Enjoy your stroll.
I'm sprinkling virtual hugs around the thread and wish everyone a happy Sunday.0 -
Morning everyone just having a lazy start with my breakfast in bed but will need to move soon as I want to wash my bedding and get it out on the line before I go down to sit with my dad.
Went to Aldi with youngest DD yesterday and bought parma ham and smoked salmon for Christmas. We also went to the big charity furniture shop and bought her 2 chests of drawers for just £15 each... a real bargain and both 'proper' wood so will last for ages. We were lucky to find one in cream which almost matches the cot and wardrobe she bought from facebook. Had coffee out too so that was nice. Doctors have said she is high risk now because of her high blood pressure, so I've decided she needs to get organised!
Went down to mam and dad's yesterday afternoon and arrived just in time to finish putting the baubles on the tree. Felt a bit sad as she couldn't hang the little fiddly bits of thread on the branches. Then came home and wrapped about half of my presents...will do the rest today. Also wrote cards for family and the ones I need to post
Better get moving....hope everyone has a good day0 -
Morning
Weather seems a bit calmer this morning it was wild last night . I love weather like that at night is strangely comforting due to being under the duvet
Need to do some shopping today ...normally use delivery but cant meet the minimum although I suspect once I get there I probably will as I have a habit of chucking "bargains" in which is why i opt for delivery normally it saves a fortune.
HM chicken kiev last night and its the last one so need to crack on and make some more they are scrummyTonight Ive grabbed a duck breast out so going to get some veg with the shop and do something lovely with it not sure what yet...ideas welcome
Looking forward to the celebrity final tonight although my fav fleur has gone.
Sunday brunch this morning then I will go and fight the desperate crowds...roll on boxing day. Hope they have some sprouts left
Have a lovely Sunday all and try to stay stress free0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread SO and hugs to all those in need.
You're on Tru, I'll leave CHS on the boat!! Which canal are you near?
Wee Midgie, I can not only watch a film with subtitles as I'm deaf, I can also read and knit at the same time, lol.
Roast lamb today, someone gave us a huge leg, I'll cook it then strip the meat and slice it, the big slices I'll freeze in portions for other meals, the little bits I'll chop fine and make rissoles.
No other plans apart from a few walks around the marina in the rain and some more knitting, I'm knitting the Hitchhiker scarf in sock wook, but I can only see to knit it in daylight, once it gets dark and I'm in artificial light I'm knitting some flat knit socks in DK.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0
