    Good morning all,

TA the year that the HT's dad died I only sent cards to close family as I couldn't face writing so many others without his name on them. I made a charity donation instead and as nobody batted an eyelid I've done this ever since.

Tru thank you for the christmas carols/songs. I really enjoy them.

Dumpling I hope you're ok. I had to have 2 lots of antibiotics when the hole in my leg was infected and if you had the same ones as I did you won't be straying far from the bathroom (sorry for TMI folks but skin infections are notoriously hard to treat and the meds are evil).

I put the tree and decs up yesterday after spending 2 days cleaning the house. Sarah the Borat (cat number 2) has pulled the sitting room curtain rail out of the wall at one end by climbing the curtain and my friend is half way through fixing it so I was going to wait but the house was clean so.... Our weekend in Sheffield was fun last weekend and we all really enjoyed ourselves. Not too sure about the Grindelwald film though. It was a bit like a "middle" film with no satisfactory ending. Probably to make sure people go back and watch the next one? I also watched Polar Express for the first time ever.

The HT woke me at 6am this morning because he was "starving". He's 14 and he knows where the kitchen is. Enough is enough right? I told him to make his own breakfast and I'm not the maid. Apparently he had toast, a brownie out of the cake tin and some pickled onion (eugh!) crisps.

I need to make a list of things that still need doing. This includes sewing up my knitted fairy lights, stuffing them and attaching them to the knitted cord. Busy is better than bored, busy is.....and repeat :rotfl:

Thinking of Poppy and Holly and hoping that "mum of Gers" has a good day today too.

Take care all of you :)

    Morning everyone

silver-oldie - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light but blustery, damp underfoot, it's raining on and off.

DH and myself are enjoying first peaceful cuppas, boys both still in their pits. It's DS1's birthday today, where do the years go?

Dinner last night was a lovely chinese takeaway - DS1's choice as his birthday, today we're having roast pork, roasties, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, swede, peas, yorkshires and gravy, choc birthday cake for dessert.

Work yesterday was busier than it has been on a Saturday - but we were stuck with most of the technology having maintenance so unable to be used - so we'll get an influx of people tomorrow needing assistance. Good busy day - goes quickly.

I'm so behind with the xmas stuff, still have presents to buy so need to get going with that, did wrap some yesterday and take them to another family member who is going to see them before xmas - we won't but at least the prezzies have gone to the rightful people. If I get chance I'll possibly dig out some cards and get them written this afternoon.

Had some news last night regarding another family member which hasn't surprised us particularly but is still quite sad and if the health condition is confirmed (we are waiting for definite diagnosis) then their life is not going to be the same anymore.

    Keep safe and well x

    nmlc x

  • :hello: good moning, everybody - from a very damp but 'calm 'n' quiet' Merseyside. At least all that wind has finally quietened back down.

silver-oldie - thanks for starting today's thread for us. Enjoy your day and hope you can make it as 'lazy as possible' :D.
tru - enjoy your day. I came across my Christmas table cloths a couple of days ago - luckily I 'stain-treated' them before washing and putting away last year, so they just need a 'freshen up' wash now :j.
redruby - hope your day in work goes well and 'well done, you' on getting your presents wrapped :D.
TA - sounds like you had an absolutely beautiful day with your family/grandchildren and 'very well done!' to the performers :T
LaineyT - what a lovely day with your friends :D.
WeeMidgie - enjoy your Sunday Stroll - hope the weather is good for you all :).
Gers - Slow Cooked Venison sounds like a great idea .
dp1 - how lovely to get involved in the plans for your grandchild's arrival :j. I had High BP over two of my children - back in 73 and 80. Treatment over the eldest was to prescribe Phenobarbitone AND Valium  ..................... imagine them doing that in this day and age :naughty:.
Nelski - enjoy your grocery shopping :).
Hester - have a good day with your walks around the Marina and your knitting :D.
Cranky - toast, brownie and pickled onion crisps - yup, sounds exactly a teenage breakfast ;)!
nmlc - hope your work tech problems have been sorted. Sorry to hear about a family member who's had bad news - similar here with my DBiL and so worried for my DSis and her family :(.

Sending some prayers and ((((Healing Hgs)))) for all who need - or want - them.

After another mad week, we had a 'Secret Santa' planning session at my DD's yesterday. Lovely time with all 3 of my own kids there with their partners PLUS 6 of the 7 grandchildren - needless to say, the cat legged-it to the bedrooms ;) :rotfl:.

Will be heading out to church in about an hour. Our Toy Service (for KIND - Kids In Need and Distress) is today. Somebody will be delivering the gifts into Liverpool tomorrow. I'm sure I heard them say that this year the presents will be going to children of 'homeless families' who are living in temporary accommodation. After that, I'm heading into Liverpool - I've got a Gift Card from Debenham's that really MUST be used up and I reckon that today'll be quieter than at any time in the next couple of weeks .

Have a good day, everybody - hope you all get to spend it in ways that you choose to - luv Ollie xx

Ollie and nmlc, sorry to hear about your relatives.

TA glad the panto went well, I don't feel very festive either - the tree has been sitting here for nearly a week, bare. Chris and Crystal are coming for brunch this morning and then he and Steve are going down to the driving range for Chris to try clubs because he wants a driver so we are contributing as his present. Hopefully Crystal will help me decorate the tree.

We spent less than 24 hours in the Yorkshire house and the roofer did turn up. The good news is it is not the roof, the bad news is that the en-suite has lost a good chunk of plaster. Apparently it's something that affects old chimneys, the bricks get salts in them from the coal and stuff burned in the past and these attract moisture. Steve is going to tank the wall so it doesn't come through again.

I went to the cheese shop and put in our Christmas order. I don't know if anyone watched the Steph Mcgovern programme on Friday, the owner of the shop was on talking about making Wensleydale cheese. I never ate cheese until we started going to his shop but now I will eat the milder versions.

Morning campers " hi di hi !"
We had a fab meal last night and we still feel stuffed this morning. They were right about the puddings, I had a very large portion of chocolate orange cake with ice cream mmmmmmmm delicious . Well someone had to try it  :rotfl:
On to today, it's Sunday lunch with Dad and we are going to have steak pie, roast potatoes, carrots and cabbage with gravy.
Mr Fix It has gone to town to collect a figure from Ar*os for the DGS ( that's the last of his presents done ) and to get more batteries for the lights. We had forgotten that some we bought last year were batteries only

Well I'd better get dressed and make a start on the veg prep.
Have a good Sunday all. Take care.

So family came up and friends came round, we ate pizza, KFC, sausage rolls, trifle, mice pies and drank some stuff too. I feel full still this morning and we are going out for Sunday roast to a local pub that does a very good one. It's the weekend of overindulgence. Pizza for breakfast too....
The little prince is in the house, he loves rubbing his head on your feet for some reason so we end up doing the collie dog walking in and out of your legs whenever we walk anywhere.
House is still tidy apart from kitchen where a bomb dropped but that can be done after...

nmlc, snap with your DS, mines a big one though :) Morning SO, hope today goes gently. TA, red pepper and cheese? SOunds interesting, what cheese and how does it go in there? Yes, my father is the same about Christmas now, I think he only did it because my mother liked it. The day out sounded really cool though! Lainey, that's nice of him. Nanny, oh no! I must be Mrs Mr Fixit then!!
Hope Sunday treats you all well!

  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

TA so pleased the panto went ok, kind of CB to give them all a present.

Hester, if our bit of the canal was navigable you could come here, unfortunately its choked up with weeds. Fingers crossed for your viewers tomorrow. I hope the evil tenant does not try to put people off!! When do they go?

Well the runner and table mats are finished, I made myself do the last 2 yesterday, so have to pack them up ready to post on Tuesday when I go to the P.O.

Our Big Breakfast was very enjoyable except for the toast which was a bit rubbery, however I ate it and said nothing. Spent the rest of the day slobbing about once I had finished the mats. We had a cold supper, left overs.

I have a gammon joint in cooking, I will slice and reheat it for supper tonight with parsley sauce, carrots roast spuds and cabbage. Might do a creme caramel for dessert, see how I feel. I also need to make a loaf.

Its a bright morning so OH is out in the garden, will call him in for his tea shortly.

No plans for the rest of the day.............

Nelski have you heard from Holly?

Yes OL she's not good I'm afraid. She hasn't heard from her brother since she came home and she's not sure if he wants her there for Christmas :( I think he will but he is very busy at work so probably just been a bloke iykwim. On a positive her op has been postponed till after new year as they were concerned that she could be alone over Christmas when no mental health services would be available. Chemo is being chemo and knocking her for six as is its want I just wish she only had to cope with that and not all her very challenging MH problems.

Well I fought the crowds ...actually hardly anyone there to my surprise. Challenge was the empty shelves so many things out of stock. Daft things like lemonade and loose sprouts..yes i know i predicted that one. Doubt there had been a mad rush first thing so would suggest some supply issues on quite a few things.

Anyway my duck breast is happily marinating in a chuck together sauce of what i had in before the shop. Hoi sin 5 spice soy and maple syrup. Smells lovely and chinesey:) The plan was to have with pancakes and salad bits but Asda were out of pancakes so its tortillas instead. Would have been easier to just buy the box from Asda but I guess thats not the point and my duck looks beautiful so we shall see later.

    Right time for a coffee

Afternoon all, flying visit from me as I think we are off to see DB1 and take their DGS pressie and cards ( if I can find it that is- I have a terrible habit of wrapping and then forgetting where I've stashed stuff )
Ds has just made me a bacon butty which was polished off pretty quick and DH has been cutting up wood for the burner-its clear so suspect it'll go cold later. At least its stopped raining :)
I've put stamps on some cards so I'll get rid of them on the way.
    love to the poorlies xx

  • Hello all, late posting again.

~taff, I think it is your birthday so hope your day is a great one.

Hester I read and knit too, or read and watch tv, this morning I made a teddy bear's head, ears and jumper plus one leg of his trousies while watching a fill that I'd recorded.

I am not feeling very festive yet but I've promised to write the cards this afternoon. OH can post them, he'll need to get extra stamps. Then I'm cooking a roast pork dinner later.I'm not mad about pork but it was their turn to choose this week and I can put a lot of apple sauce on it.

I am sending love to those of us who are unwell, sad or worried and Nelski please would you send love to Holly?
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
