O/S Daily Wednesday 5th December 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, wet underfoot and forecast is for more rain, rain started sometime during the night and seems a bit off and on at the moment, but it's not so cold.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night pork loins, mash, veg and gravy after the hairdresser had finished so a bit later than normal. Tonight I have a chicken to roast in a bag when I get home, I need to decide what we'll have with it.

Work yesterday was quite busy, lots of enquiries so the day passed quite quickly. Hoping today will be the same, last full day then I'm on days' off although I have to go for training tomorrow morning and I'm working Saturday morning - I'm now working every Saturday into the New Year, some are mine and some are for other people. I'll feel grateful for them once the pay comes in.

Keep safe and well x

Cold again with a stiff breeze thrown in, it's like the arctic! There was black ice everywhere yesterday and l would imagine today is the same.

Not very much happening here, I've made some decorative candle decorations from jam jars for a Guide fair on Saturday, they look quite pretty.

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX

I usually plant daffodils in the spring but I read that you can plant them in late autumn. So I sorted some pots and planted some bulbs a few weeks ago, they've started appearing already. I checked a couple of gardening websites and they said they have to be planted a bit deeper in the autumn. I'm going to put more compost in the pots and hope I'm not too late. Of all the things I grow successfully, I mess up a simple daffodil :D

Not much going on today – a walk then a bit of tidying, a bit of cleaning, a bit of crochet and a LOT of nagging about Christmas presents :D

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Thank you nmlc for starting the thread xx

Not quite so cold here this morning but forecast to be raining all day. The grandchildren will burst through the door in half an hour or so looking for breakfast and to tell me their news. Everyone else is still tucked up in bed apart from poor Steve who had already left for work before I got up.

The doctor rang me yesterday to say I had an infection in my legs so Boots will be delivering me some antibiotics this afternoon. I have had nothing but excellent service from everyone who has been involved in the care of my legs. I am having a doppler scan on Friday to see if I am suitable to have compression bandages which, all being well, will really help my poor legs to heal up. The nurse also gave me a flu jab yesterday so my arm feels a bit sore today.

We are having fish and chips tonight for dinner and Lee wants to make a lemon meringue pie either tonight or tomorrow as he didn't have a birthday cake. His new cookbooks have been well thumbed through already and his latest dream is to open a cafe in the future.

Right, I'd better go and unlock the front door ready for the onslaught :rotfl:. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Good morning, and thanks Tru for the Christmas song.

It was bitter yesterday, and the car was frosted over last night. I think it's due to rain today.

We are going to visit DH's brother for a few days, going today and we will return on Sunday. So that's a long journey to the south west. We had planned to go a couple of weeks ago, but I had to have that colonoscopy.

Don't suppose I'll post, so "see" you when we return.

    Take care folks

    Morning folks.

Dark, cold and damp. My least favourite part of that is the dark, especially dark evenings.

I'm teaching first thing, should be a quiet session as the students are busy writing an assignment.

My DM's GP visited her yesterday afternoon and spent about two hours with her, explaining 'things' and reassuring her. There's a great service which aims to keep the very elderly in their own home rather than hospitalise them or admit to a home. Personal and nursing care in your own home is free in Scotland, think it's cheaper and more effective.

I've got some mince and veggies to eat up later. Yesterday I thought I'd go down to Glasgow today though now have decided to go tomorrow instead.

I hope everyone has a good and happy Wednesday.

I'm sitting here feeling quite blue, partly because I'm tired - I'm not sleeping well and with Steve being ill the last few days I've had a lot more running around to do.

Mainly though it's the fact that Steve's lymphoma seems to be progressing a lot faster than we were led to believe it would. It looks like he will have to start treatment fairly soon. He started to feel a lot better from the labyrinthitis symptoms yesterday, so much that he told Chris he would go to the gym today - over my dead body.

Anyway, we will put the tree up today and try to feel a bit more festive, i'm starting to get there with the presents.

Morning all...Todays advent chocolate was an Alpini, one of my favourites.
Ate toad in the hole, only three sausages this time, phew, I ate two, so not bad, and they were lincolnshire ones, and very meaty, very nice. We also went shopping for victuals on the way home, so all is ready to go with regards to making food on Friday.
Have written a big list of things to do, am aiming to cross off at least two. I feel better in the head, just wish my body would hurry up and get back to some semblance of activity.
OH has been instructed to fetchthe christmas box down so I can fairy light the hell out of the living room, and maybe the window too, table hasn't been moved yet, potentially may happen today...Also definitely going to sewing tonight, have got some cupcakes from tesco to take as it was her birthday last week.

    Morning all,

Another one here who is meeting up with a friend this morning, we don’t see each so much these days but it’s always lovely when we do and natter away for a few hours.
Other than that not much else planned, I have some of yesterday’s soup and bread left for lunch, will get over to see Lu at some point too but as I lunged her yesterday she can have the day off. It’s meant to rain all today and with a lesson tomorrow I don’t want to risk getting my tack wet, well that’s my excuse :D
Hugs to SNOOZER and to all other poorlies or those with worries,
That certainly sounds like a great service for the elderly GERS.
Enjoy the visit with your brother SR.
TRU, I noticed yesterday that my tulips are showing through so will need to cover them up too.
    Take care folks x
