O/S Daily Tuesday 4th December 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, but cold and frosty start to the day - but forecast says some sun should appear - we'll see.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. Hairdresser is coming tonight so dinner will be late but will just be pork loins, mash, peas and gravy.
Yesterday work as expected was busier than it has been, but was manageable - hoping today will be busy too. As the temperature has now dipped it's likely we'll get an influx of rough sleepers etc.
Keep safe and well x

JackieO That's interesting, I often wonder what famous people are like in real life - “I bet you're a laugh at the pub/a miserable old sod/a demanding diva”I've been to a couple of the River Cottage open days, they're all lovely. Hugh FW seems quite shy in real life, and John the forager is my favourite – happy to answer foody questions in detail and is very funny

Olliebeak There was no gift-giving as such, he brought the presents round in a cardboard box and left it in the kitchen. He told me they are to go under the tree to be opened when they're here with everyone else on Christmas day! I think you're right, he wants clutter out of his house and into mine
candygirl You need to teach Zeus the difference between Christmas and Easter :rotfl:
As soon as it was light yesterday, I let the chickens out. A few minutes later the sky was a weird orange colour, it started to rain then the sky went black. The chickens thought it was bedtime and went back to their perches
The shopping is coming this morning, that'll be the last normal shop for a while, there's plenty to keep us going til Christmas. Mr tru is doing quite well with his mission to get rid of the piles of pasties, etc. so next week's shopping will be the usual fresh stuff plus party food for the freezer. Might book the delivery slot today, times fill up quickly during december. I won't be booking a Christmas delivery though, the charge is way too high for my liking. I pay £35 for a year's worth of deliveries, as many as I like, so it grates a bit to have to pay £5 for one delivery!

Aw SILVER-OLDIE bless you and much love from me xx
Thanks for starting off NMLC. It's a very frosty start here too brr.
Yet another rubbish night. Wide awake since silly o'clock. I think the Sandman has forgotten where I live. It isn't asking for a lot is it, just the odd good night's sleep now and then. I have been trying various herbal remedies but proving to be a waste of money.
Once the DGDs have been dispatched to school the day is my own (but these things can change!) The performers are getting picked up from school at lunchtime to go to rehearsals, then they are getting dropped off at their nan's afterwards to sleep there. Eldest also going there straight from school. So I am gallivanting! This morning I am meeting my oldest friend for a coffee or two (what is now our regular weekly meet up day) then tonight I am dining out. It's the monthly wine and carvery night but we are dining Italian instead tonight and classing it as an early Christmas meal! Our numbers are dwindling well and truly. Since we started having these monthly meet ups, oh many years ago now, 3 ladies have died, one moved away and another abandoned us. So now we are down to just three. Still an enjoyable night though and looking forward to it.
I am hoping I can manage a nanny nap this afternoon or I shall be falling asleep at the table.
Right time to wake eldest DGD up so have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care all xx."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
A very cold morning here, I'll have to defrost the car in a bit, actually had to scrape it at 4.30 yesterday when I left work!
I went to a live screening of The Nutcracker Ballet last night after dinner at a friends, lovely evening but the old cinema was a bit chilly. We paid an extra £1.50 each to sit on a sofa, so much better than the seats!
Hugs to you SO.
Fame for Scampi at last!
Hope you're warm and cosy Gers.
Glad your Nan approves Specky!
Right, shower calls then a day at the mad house, the children are getting so excited and I'm turning into the Grinch!
Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Seems a lot cooler here today have turned the heating up a little bit this morning.
Off to work for me but my work mate it back so that will make it easier for me it hard work when one of us is away.
Got a casserole for dinner I not sure if its lamb or beef as it was frozen when I got it out, which ever one it is will be nice, OH will get some crusty bread today to have with it.
The funny thing about Evie's bone story was that it was all covered in mud :rotfl:thank goodness it was dried mud and just hovered up !! they are funny little things.
Holly sending best wishes to you if you are reading this xx
SO I am so sorry for you, sending hugs to you both and we are here to talk if you need us xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Cold and frosty here as well but nice with clear skies so will see the sunrise.
My knee is a bit sore after yesterday’s physio so will potter around the house this morning, I have bread and soup to make, and then will get over to see the lovely pony this afternoon. She was funny yesterday, I stood in the stable with her leaning over the door chatting to one of the other owners. Lu gave up frisking us for treats and stood behind me, gradually falling asleep with her nose pressed into my back. She is such an affectionate little mare and enjoys the human contact.
Hugs to SO, please take care of yourself.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning folks.
Lovely ditty Tru.
TA - I hope you have a lovely time with your friends, can't beat good friends.
Camelot - I'm going to light the woodburner this morning so I'll be cosy soon. So far, I'm still under my duvet.
It's a very chilly morning here. Yesterday the afternoon was so sunny and bright I had the front door open for a while. I wanted to catch the postie to give him some letters to post. Once he'd been I closed the door!
My neighbour is bringing me the venison this morning and a wee Christmas tree he cut down. I'm not keen on Christmas trees, never had one until I moved here when I get given one every year. It's usually a self seeder which is in the wrong place which is exactly how I feel about it. :rotfl:
I gave a couple of friends Lego advent calendars and am now getting daily photos of the building progress. One friend is over 70 years old and the other is eight, both love the toys.
I hope everyone keeps warm and safe. Happy Tuesday to all.0 -
silver-oldie, I'm so sorry, I hope today isn't too difficult for you.
Holly, Poppy, taff and anyone else undergoing treatment, I'm thinking about you.
TA, have a lovely meal and coffee with your friend.
We made it back from Yorkshire after a long journey because we diverted via the Wirral. Ziggypup is so good in the car but was a bit manic when we got home so I took her for another walk. We passed a local house which is always decorated to the nines for charity, they have added a flock? of penguins in the garden now.
Steve has a blood test today, the good thing is they give us the results on the spot and we will see the Clinical nurse. Then I want to buy the tree. This morning will consist of walking the pup, buying bread etc, collecting parcels and cleaning the house before putting up the decs.
We have to go back to Yorkshire on Thursday to meet the roofer because Steve thinks there is a small leak near the chimney from when they re-roofed it.0 -
Good morning everyone,
A very foggy morning here in south Manchester.
Yesterday after work I attended the gym class which was awfully hard work. I do believe that those sort of things are only as good as the effort you put in, so I was a sticky sweaty mess after the 30 minutes were up. I quickly headed home, made my dinner and played with some of my pals on the Xbox before bed.
I got up for the gym this morning and I've actually got stuff with me to go again tonight, however I've a few errands to run so I think I'll give it a miss tonight.
Can anyone here advise...?
I moved to Manchester in the middle of November and yet I've been charged the full amount for my council tax for the flat in Scotland and I've got a bill through the door for the full amount for the flat in England too. Surely this can't be right? Should they both not be pro-rata?
S.O - Aw I hope you're ok today. Take care of yourself.
TA - Enjoy your day, it sounds like fun.
Lainey - That's beautiful. Such a cute scene you painted there. Adorable.0 -
Morning all! Todays advent chocolate was an ornage something or other, dark chocolate again, not fussed on orange but I ae it anyway
Freezer finally got moved yesterday, so that's in the lean to now, which makes space for me to clear the table and move that where the freezer was. It's like playing chess in the living room. I am almost at hiring a skip point. You know where you have so much stuff [ my sewing stash of fabrics and wotnots] that you just can't face it anymore and want to get rid of it, but feel guilty if you throw it away, so you try to find proper homes where it#ll be useful but that takes so long you slip back into inertia and then just look at it now and again and fume quietly wishing you had ordered the damn skip. Yeah, that.
Have put washing machine on, it's nearly finished, it'll go in the tumble because it's wet and windy.
Today is get off behind and do dishes, sort kitchen boxes and move table.
Appointment went ok yesterday, have to see now whether or not I've been shoved into a menopause, so blood tests a plenty to come. Muscles are still weak as kittens, may be time to do some slow walking around the streets.
Tea tonight at OH's mothers, it'll be Toad In the Hole, he likes it, I like it too, hope it's not six sausges this time
SO, can't imagine how that feels, but I'd give you squashy hugs and ply you with tea and chocolate irl...tr, laughing at the chickens, when we had some, I loved the way they'd run towards me if they thought I had something worth eating, they were just like unbalanced baby dinosaurs. Gers, hope you're over it now, laughing at the calendars...
Hope everyone has a fab Tuesday
Speky, you can ask for a rebate on the flat, and give them the date the tenants moved in. If you're OK with it, ask them if they've been sent a bill. Same with the Manc flat, let them know when you moved in. ALso, ask if its been split over ten months or twelve. The landlord might have changed it to twelve seeing as it's a rental, however, if he's left it at ten, you'll be getting a bit of a bargain ecause the previous tenants would have paid more, enabling you to have two months off.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
