Best way to clean brass?
I have 3 large brass church candlesticks that are very tarnished. I clean one using duraglit wadding but it took ages and I don't think my arms are up for doing it twice more! Is there anything else I can use that doesn't involve quite so much rubbing?!

Shoe Polish - Ideal Home Exhibition - before 2014
I bought a kind of silicon wax which brought back the colour to black shoes. I lost mine and after seeing it at numerous Ideal Home Exhibitions it has not been on sale for the past couple of years. Does anyone have any idea of what the brand was? It lasted for ages so hopefully someone still has some. Thanks

Keeping pillows clean/getting a good nights sleep.
Outside of regular suggestions like go to bed early and reading is there anything that can help a good nights sleep. I generally have no problems falling asleep but I wake so often during the night for first 4 hours then after 4 hours I struggle to wake and it means when its time to wake up I feel so tired or I end up…

Bought too many mussels
So... I just came back from a fish market and my OH told me to buy 2 packs of mussels for tea (just 2 of us). But now looking at it, I am sure that is 4lb (2kg)!! So even though he says "you can never have too many mussels", I think that is too much. Can I freeze any leftover once they are cooked to put into a paella for…

Starting Out, low income
I am just starting out living on my own in a real flat (moving in shortly). I have been living independently for a while but in shared accommodation where the only things I have had to pay are rent, tv licence and food / cleaning supplies. I'm glad I got the chance to start out with the easy ones first, it has given me the…

What meals can I make from all this?
Hello! We are having our kitchen refitted. We have an oven (but not much else) until Monday, after that we will have 2 weeks of no kitchen at all although we have a microwave, slow cooker, rotisserie, two health grills, deep fat fryer, steamer. We also have no prep space apart from a dining room table, and only about half…

Need some financial advice
Hi, I'm in the process of renting my own home, first time I've done this on my own as I'm just coming out of a marriage. My income is around £1000 a month after tax, though I'm currently going through interviews for slightly higher paying jobs which should give me around £1300 a month after tax. The house is a small 2 bed,…

Saving on cleaning
Hello, I'm about to move into my first home with my partner and where we both work (him 30hrs and me 20hrs) money will be a little tighter than we are used to. I have a few ideas on how to save on cleaning supplies (baking soda, white vinegar, soda crystals and soap flakes) but are there any old-time tips and tricks to…

Home made chicken stock
I put the chicken carcass in the slow cooker with onion carrot and a bay leaf last night. 4 hours on low and fished all the veg, skin, bones etc out, cooled it and popped in the fridge overnight. I doesn't look delicious this morning-sort of pale browny grey and a bit wobbly. Can anyone tell me if that's how it should…

reducing monthly food spend
Hi all, I'm trying to reduce my monthly food spend and not having much success. My current situation is a bit haphazard - I don't plan my food choices very well. I also spend money in the canteen at work because I don't find it any cheaper to prepare my own food. With grocery shopping and food for work I'm currently…

Just feeling sad for my daughter today, she had secured a life long ambition and got a place to run this years London Marathon. She has been training hard, got to nearly her aim of £1000 fund raising then last week tripped in her overland run and went down with a bang, not so much o a problem, broken rib, bruises which are…

Best All Purpose Cleaning Spray for cleaning kitchen units?
Hi everyone, Can you tell me, what’s the best product for cleaning kitchen units? I’ve been thinking of getting some Flash All Purpose Cleaning Spray (Sainsbury’s and ASDA are currently selling this for £1/500ml (20p/100ml)), or are there better alternatives? Are Aldi and Lidl’s ones any good? Sainsbury’s also do their own…
