O/S Daily Tuesday 12 April 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, but will wake him shortly to get ready for school.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, ice cream for dessert for those that wanted some. I remembered to get the meatballs out to defrost so tonight we’re having meatballs in a creamy tomato sauce with tagliatelle – not something I’ve given DH before so we’ll see. We’ve had tinned meatballs before and they’re fine but these are fresh that I bought and froze – hoping they’re ok so it’s something else I can add to the list, at least until DH decides he doesn’t like them after eating them quite happily for several weeks/months as he regularly does with other food!
Work yesterday started off very slow and I it was very strange to be that quiet on a Monday, but then it just went busy and stayed that way pretty much all day. Started the day having a bit of a nightmare with the Supervisor who had returned from a week’s leave to absolute chaos, the staff that had been dealing with the machines had made a complete mess of it (this includes the Manager who I had to work with early last week), so the Supervisor had to sort all of that out and eventually it seems it’s now sorted. It just proves that even the most high up Manager’s don’t know everything, and they actually now know what a long winded system we still have to use even though there’s no Cashier anymore, the actual other work is twice as bad and someone has to go to the bank daily and sometimes twice a day as we now can only put certain coins into the machines, where before we carried a proper float – hey ho, this is progress so we’re told! The day did pass quite quickly due to being busy though, hoping that today will be the same.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread nmlc - my mouth always waters when I read what you've cooked each day.
Yesterday I collected my print from the framers and am do delighted with it. The print is of Albrecht Dürer's self portrait dated 1500 and one of my favourite paintings. Some friends bought it for me as a 'leaving Newcastle' present so it has been languishing too long in a tube. The framer choose well, it has a deep mount and a dark matte gold frame which is just perfect.
I only did a small shop yesterday but forgot little gem lettuce which I really wanted so I'll zoom back this morning. As I'm back on BSD again I need to make sure I've got the right stuff in. I enjoy the cream cheese wraps using lettuce leaves. Don't think my time away has done too much 'damage' to my progress though white wine did feature much more. Onward and thinner!
Today I have such a load of 'stuff' to do. Online banking and shuffling money around, paying off the credit card which I used to pay for flights and hotel (for sect. 75 protection), and organising my calendar - I've got a load of invigilation sessions allocated to me during May and early June so I need a list on the kitchen wall.
OS time again after spending times in Oz. Luckily I still have loads of meat and veg in the freezer.
Right, dawn is finished, no sun just white cloud. Time to get up.
Happy Tuesday everyone.0 -
Morning all
The fish have been fed, hubby has a cuppa and I'm off to do the school run before work.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a bright and sunny morning here at the moment but hubby has taken his brolly as we are forecast rain this afternoon. I have been awake since 4ish so I am starting to flag a bit. There will definitely be a nanna nap in the offing later.
My DD13's new bed is coming today sometime between now and mid-day and I am hoping some of the wool I ordered will be delivered today as well. I am planning to start knitting some baby hats and booties as well as my toys that I love making. There are also a load of new photo albums winging their way here as well as I am having a major sort out and cull of our photos. I am also going to attempt to write who is in the picture, where it was taken and roughly what year. This is going to be a long job and I want to take my time and make sure it is done properly for the future generations of our family.
I have already sorted and cleaned out the fridge this morning, I have some of the never ending washing to do and finally I want to make a shepherd's pie with the leftover lamb from Sunday. Phew, that will keep me busy this morning.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all,
Off to work this morning but need to dash out to the vets for an hour or so with Evie, will explain more later but her bum is bad and her eyes very weepy, going to see a different vet re the bum as I am not sure he has not done some damage last week  I think the eyes may be conjunctivitis too, thanks Specky and all, will mention it to vets.
Dinner tonight will be a flambe with some wedges and salad, looking forward to it. Need to do a wash tonight too.
Better dash running late, have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Dull and cloudy here, we obviously had a lot of rain in the night.
Work again today so fingers crossed the day will go quickly, wasn't too bad yesterday as very busy. Other than that will pop over to the yard after work to see my boy and make sure he's ok.
Gers your picture sounds fab, had to admit googl&d the picture as wasn't sure of the painting. Can see why it's a favourite, very atmospheric.
RR hope you get some answers for Evie, poor little poppet.
Have a good day all, take care folks x0 -
Morning everyone, I have been up since 4 and have been making a toddler cardigan and watching catchy up stuff on TV, not exactly thrilling. Washing machine us burbling away with towels, it is a bit gloomy but the forecast doesn't include actual rain so yet another triumph of hope over experience as I am convinced that the weatherman just likes talking about those interesting symbols on the chart.
I will be working at home most of today, spent most of last night on the laptop, job appears relentless at present. Meant to be a 3 day week but it will be 4 and could ed up 5, 6 or 7 as ever. Worked a lot at the weekend. Senior manager has announced that we can carry only 15 hours of additional hours so I did my best to get mine down from 90, mostly by pretending to have days off, got it to under 30, then under 20 and in the space of a fortnight it is in the high 40s again. Please excuse the whinge, it does explain why I get so tired and stressy though.
DH, who does not work, is still sleeping so I am not starting work until he gets up as my stuff is upstairs, good excuse, that.
Sorry about little Evie and the poorly bum and eyes, hope different vet is helpful.
I probably won't get back here today as am working into the evening so have good days, all.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Hi everyone,
NMLC, I don't know how you put up with your OH's attitude to food. I'm afraid I'd be telling him to feed himself. I suppose I'm lucky that DH will eat almost anything.
We had chicken breast with puy lentils and butternut squash for dinner last night. It was fine and I'll definitely do the lentils again (cooked with a shallot and a little red wine vinegar) but the chicken and squash were a bit meh. I might do something beany tonight.
I have to take the car for its service today (after taking it a week early last week). I also have the phone for the local Good Neighbours group but I've decided to bow out of the group now. I feel a bit bad but it is getting stressful trying to find drivers for people- we are getting a lot of referrals from local social workers etc, which is fine but they tend to be quite complicated matters and now out of our local area as well.
RR I hope you get Evie sorted out, she seems such a sweetie. I do miss having a dog but it's impractical at the moment.
Have a good day.0 -
Morning All
RR - Poor little Evie, hope she gets sorted out.
LW - your guest is very handsome.
After yesterday's lovely sunshine it's damp and overcast here today but seems a little milder. Luckily I got all the washing done and dried yesterday and I've ironed it this morning.
Thought I had finished varnishing the bedside cabinet for DD but have just remembered the feet, I'll do those before I take it up later.
Going for a slap up meal later with DD (a voucher I got for my birthday) and then to the Hydro to see ELO. I'll stay at DDs after as she's off tomorrow.
Managed to strip some wallpaper in the kitchen yesterday, there seem to be about 4 layers so slow going even with a steamer. Also had the car serviced.
Must get in the shower and get some shopping in. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Slept well but needed the electric blanket on as I was a bit cold
Had a productive day yesterday in the house. What could be cleaned was cleaned. Today is my first Tuesday without being able to visit Mom in the home. I'll miss her and the girls who supported me. I am going to clean the windows in the house today. That should keep my morning occupied.
I will also be waiting for my replacement tumble dryer. Hotpoint deemed mine as a fire risk so hubby opted to replace it at reduced cost rather than wait for a repair.
Candlelight, how did hubby get on at the hospital?
Onwards and forwards

Good Morning everyone, very chilly and misty here today, the forecast says we should be dry and if we're lucky get some sun later on, let's hope so!
I have the hairdresser this morning and He Who Knows has the dentist so a fun filled time for both of us but then the rest of the day is ours so I may pop into the city for a few bits I need on the bus, I'll see how the mood takes me when I've been trimmed.
Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.0
