O/S Daily Wednesday 13 April 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now light drying up underfoot, had horrible start to the day yesterday just dark, misty and really damp then started raining and didn’t look like it was going to stop but did early afternoon, started to dry up and by evening wasn’t too bad, but we’ve had rain again during the night as everywhere is damp again, this morning looks brighter and clearer so we’ll see what today brings.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, but will wake him shortly to get ready for school.

Dinner last night was meatballs in tomato sauce with tagliatelle – all eaten. DH started moaning as soon as it was put down in front of him, is that all we’ve got, there’s not enough. I just ignored him, I’d already said that it was something different and if we didn’t like it we wouldn’t have to have it again, he didn’t say much as I gave no reaction, he did say afterwards that he wasn’t too keen on the meatballs taste – nothing wrong with them, they were just meatballs, - his comment on not liking the taste was answered by me with a “well they taste just like beef burgers but a different shape” as they do – he loves burgers – he went quiet after that, I’m not being drawn into arguments, he moans that we’re just eating the same meals then doesn’t like it when I try something new. Jesus, it’s like having babies/toddlers again sometimes – last night he didn’t have the answers and my short but concise responses shut him up. I’ve just decided that I do the cooking, because he doesn’t and won’t (and I prefer him not too as EVERYTHING is cooked in 3 inches of oil). I try to give us as good as I can for the budget with different/new things where possible. He does sometimes cook when we go away in the caravan, he cooks on the bbq and we have some lovely meals but he won’t cook in the caravan or at home. Dinner tonight will be chicken, sausages and bacon with LO mash and veg, Yorkshires and gravy, some more bits used up out of the freezer.

Work yesterday started slow and wasn’t horrendously busy but we didn’t really have enough staff so we were kept busy, but day went reasonably quickly, I’m working again today until lunchtime then extra hours this afternoon.

Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone. Low white cloud here again and a bit of drizzle.

I had a good long sleep and feel a lot less self pity. I put the light out at about 8pm and slept enveloped in the smells of olbas oil and Vick. Didn't put on socks but rubbed some Vick on my feet - who knows? Nose still streaming so it's hankies everywhere.

Yesterday I bought two plants for the garden, a Dark Knight buddliea to replace the horrible one which I got removed last year., and a vinca minor (I think) to ramble around a spare space. Hopefully I'll get them planted today at some point. I also have to sort out an expired password for my two-day a month job. This happened when I was away last week so it needs fixed. I also didn't do any online banking, head too foggy, so will now leave that until Monday as my work pension is paid in then.

BSD food is going well. Breakfast will be yoghurt with nuts, berries and green tea and then I've got some red cabbage and pork loin for main meal still.

My thoughts are with Judi and JackieO. And well done to Csarina for her pacemaker check.

Thanks to everyone for their wishes. Happy Wednesday everyone.

    Morning all.
Moorhen, I went to Birmingham uni but 40 odd years ago so am not much help! DS went to Birmingham City uni but he lived at home and still does. I'd say there is a pretty thriving social scene going on but your DD would be living in a huge city, that has its upsides and downsides.
I must get my posterior in gear and go and earn our living.
Last night's dinner for OH and DS was cooked by OH and was apparently chicken with mustard mash and greens. I was back late so made small dish of risotto.
As my time off owed is now rocketing to silly amount am hoping to finish early (I don't work set hours) but somehow can't see that panning out, I love what I do but the pressure is relentless.
Washing on the line, weatherman says it might rain this afternoon so hoping OH will notice! Quick swab of the bathroom done and I must get off.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Good morning everyone U3A monthly meeting today and I shall attend with my youngest DGS as the speaker is Steve Pendleton who was a young soldier, who lost his sight in a dreadful helicopter crash and is a great speaker who has many tales of the ups and downs of his life .My sis-in-law found in her garage a box of braille dominos which I will give to him to pass on to St Dunstan's.
weather looking good at the moment so I will probably do a couple of wash loads for Dd this morning and get them out on her washing line. Keeping occupied and busy is the key at the moment.
Hope everyone has a good day whatever they are doing
    JackieO xx

    Morning all,

Bright and sunny here but very cold I hope t turns out like yesterday which was a cracking day.

We took Evie back to the vets, as she has been 'screaming' when she goes to poo, and there was what I thought was a small lump on her bum, saw a different vet who said she has an infection in her bum, so has her on anti-biotics and has given her some eye drops, so she is hopefully on the mend now thanks for the good wishes.

Tru have you watched the training videos on you tube re the bells ? took a while with Evie but she got there in the end.

Better dash running late for work xx

    Morning everyone,

Bright and sunny here, think we are set for a nice day.

Had a text from the yard owner yesterday saying don't worry but would I be down later. Went down after work and spoke to her, they are selling up and moving on :( It will go on the market at the end of the week, fingers crossed that it gets sold as a going concern as would hate to have to move Bill at the moment. Last time we moved three years ago it took him ages to get settled and now with his health issues would really worry me. It's also lovely for me, 10 minutes from home and all the livery owners get on so well, a friendly little community. So fingers crossed for a nice buyer but will have to see.

Anyways, day off today, few chores this morning and hope to get out to buy some seeds for salad leaves etc to start off in small greenhouse.

RR oh poor Evie, hope the AB's work fast and give her some relief.
Gers another one here loving the BSD food, my energy levels have definetly gone up and am 8lb down in two weeks.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
  • Morning everyone just wanted to drop by and say hi before heading to work.
I'm new to MSE and thought it was about time I got involved.
Weather here is a bit miserable but never mind it could be worse (at least it's not raining).
Apart from my budgeted spends today I should have no other expence so hoping for a NSD, I'm also off tommorrow so going to have a look at setting a NSD target for the rest on this month and next.

Hope you all have a lovely day X

    Morning :hello:

redruby That's good news, I hope Evie improves quickly xx
I've watched some videos and followed them, Scampi just will not touch the bells. He doesn't seem scared of them though, they're hanging on the back door and he wanders over and sniffs them, making sure his nose doesn't touch them. When I spoke to the behaviourist a while ago about other things, she suggested reversing what you'd usually do to train a dog eg. instead of treating him when he's stayed calm near a stranger, treat him when the stranger is still in the distance so he associates strangers with good things. Pretty obvious once she'd said it but it wouldn't have occurred to me :D I'm just trying to work out how to do this with the bells, lol.

Lainey I hope the new owners buy it with the intention of carrying it on, it would be a shame to move Bill, especially after all your hard work lately xx

    Hello Mothershipa :hello:

The paint on the bathroom ceiling is coming off. We have an extractor fan above the shower, I always keep the window open slightly and we bought proper bathroom paint. We asked lots of people for advice when we decorated, around half said do a mist coat. The other half said nooooo, definitely no mist coat, use primer then paint. We went with the mist coat opinion and the paint is flaking off nicely. It's being sanded off today and we'll do it the other way, if it peels off again I don't know what we'll do – maybe take the ceiling down and replace it with plastic sheets :D

Dog walking group today. A few people work shifts so can't make it every week, so I have no idea how many will turn up today. There are a couple of puppies (around 6 months old) who are very bouncy and just want to meet everyone and lick them to death, two rescues who are fine most of the time but if they're having a bad day will hate everyone, and a few calm dogs. Should be interesting :D It's going to be very relaxed - we're meeting at the cafe by the green, we can sit outside with a cuppa and the two of us with rescues can cross the road onto the grass if we need to get away, but we'll still be close enough to be part of the group. Us two are going to get the main walk done before we meet up, hopefully they'll then be calm when we arrive. I think we're staying on the green for the first few walks, I'm going to let others decide then just follow them :D As the dogs get to know each other, the walks should get longer.

I'm hoping for a peaceful afternoon but have a feeling I'm going to hear lots of swearing from mr tru as he wrestles with the bathroom ceiling, lol.

  • Good morning.

redruby - Hope everything goes well with Evie!
Gers - Glad you're feeling better.

Yesterday was the infamous ‘leg day’ at the gym and I was the stereotype as I left the gym. Waddling out, with my knees buckling occasionally and the stairs up to my bed…felt like Mount Everest! No pain, no gain, as they say. With a work golf day on the 21st, I need to practise my golf so I’ll try to go to the driving range tonight to sharpen my very blunt skills.

BY THE WAY!! Not normally one to talk about what I had for dinner last night however….it was slimming world chicken kebabs. Terrific ladies and gents. 10/10.

Anyone else watching the OJ Simpson vs The People? Caught up last night and it’s bloody good!

  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

It rained most of yesterday, cleared up about 4 pm, it's a fine sunny morning, so guess OH will be in the garden. I still need to work in the sewing room, it's a right huddle. Also want to move the arch in the garden so OH can put the two roses in.

I need to sort the brain and start to pull things together for our holiday.
