This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone.
Wide awake already. I've got my alarm set for 6am but now I'm waiting for it.
I'm meeting friends this morning for breakfast in their hotel. These are really good friends who I saw at least three times a week when living in Newcastle so I miss them terribly. We won't have too much time together today so will make the most of it.
After that I'll go into the city for a mooch and little shop. I want a couple of things in JL and will look at the new shops too.
My cold is drying up so my fingers are crossed that it's not heading for my chest, it always used to which was horrid.
The forecast for today is not too good again so it's back to jumpers and jackets. 'Ne'er cast a cloot 'til May be oot' as the old saying goes.
Breakfast (I hope) will be poached eggs at the hotel and for lunch I've got lettuce wrapped chicken in the fridge.
I hope everyone is doing well. Happy Friday.0 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off.
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.
Now light, grey clouds, dreich and dreary, and spitting with rain, forecast for today is not good and is likely to stay like this all day.
Dinner last night was roasted med veg tart, stuffed jacket potatoes with cheese and bacon, a small breaded chicken portion for each of the menfolk and beans, used up some more bits from the fridge/freezer. Tonight I haven't got a clue what we will be eating, I'm thinking maybe omelettes but it's a faff, or a quiche would be easier, I have loads of eggs and bacon, would then serve that with chips and salad for the menfolk and just salad for me.
I did do a bit of housework yesterday but wasn't particularly productive, I did get most of the washing done, but it's still not all dried, so will continue with that today. I'll be heading to the SM first so I can do the food shopping and get that out of the way. I did organise my dad's birthday prezzie yesterday a couple of nice bottles of wine, that myself and DH then drank, but it was very nice and I'll go today and buy 2 more to replace them, we'll be taking those when we visit tomorrow. His birthday is today but they are busy and his only live remaining sibling, his sister (my aunt) is unwell in hospital so they want to visit her today. The ill person on DH's side of the family is very unwell and was admitted to hospital over a week ago, we were getting word that they would be let out of hospital on either the Monday or Tuesday but they are still in, and now been taken off lowest dose of morphine tablet and onto a morphine pump, in my past experience of other people in this scenario they don't do this lightly and on speaking to the closer family last night they seem to think that ill person won't be released from hospital. DH had said he didn't want to visit but has now changed his mind, I think we're visiting tomorrow, boys won't be coming with us. MIL has been to visit at the hospital yesterday, and ill person's brother from away is here at the moment but goes home on Saturday. Feel really sad for ill person's close family as they have already lost one parent and now sadly the other is going to die too and they are younger than DH and myself. We're trying to support them as best we can and of course DH's grandad who's 90.
Will just potter along with the chores I need to do, I must do the ironing, otherwise I won't have any work clothes for next week and tomorrow is sounding busy, so Sunday will just be a chill day I think.
Keep safe and well x

Good Morning chums ,well true to form the weather has changed yet again, and its raining at the moment, but as its been so changeable this week I have my fingers crossed.
I am off on my travels today to the north, and hopefully sunny Leek.Just got to have some breakfast and a shower and pack the car.I have a food box all packed already with bits and pieces to take with me,tins staples etc.although I believe our cottage is next to a real ale pub that does food as wellso possibly we may give that a go before we come home.
I'm sorry I can't be with my brother Davey today for his partners funeral, but I will definitely be going down to see him in May in France, and his son Steven has promised me he will keep in touch and let me know how he is.
His health isn't great at the moment, so that too is a worry. But as my late OH used to say 'Worry won't cure you, only make things seem worse' so I will try to be upbeat .
My friend has been looking forward, as have I, to this break so we will do our best to keep things positive.
I hope everyone has a good week and I'm not too sure how good the wi-
fi is at our cottage, although I will have my lap-top with me ,so if I'm not around for a week no worries I shall be back next Friday ,fingers crossed:):)
Take care everyone

Good morning. Happy Friday!!
Thanks Gers for kicking us off today.
Early start for me today and I'm not going to the gym. Just decided to get up a bit earlier and be productive this morning. I'll go and make poached eggs, bacon and toast before work.
I was offered to attend a charity boxing night tonight in Airdrie, and since I've never been to one I jumped at the chance. All paid for which is nice so it'll be a cheap night.
Looking forward to tomorrow, where I have no plans. A chilled out day is on the cards.
Have a smashing day people.

Morning all. Got back late afternoon yesterday from our few days over at the caravan and have just been having a quick catch up of everyone's news. JACKIE I was so sorry to read about Davey's partner. My sympathy to all of you. It's a shock when it happens to someone who seems fit and well. Have a nice break with your friend if you can. HESTER I hope you get a satisfactory reply from SS. JUDI it's still early days, things will get better for you, just give it time. Welcome to two newbies too! Nice to have you both on board.
Had the 3 DGDs for sleepover last night (two youngest watching Disney junior) and then all systems go, getting them fed and watered and the school run.
Our little break at the 'van was nice with a mixed bag of weather. Got the problems DD encountered all sorted out, so the pump is now working, indoor tv has a signal, storm straps on the awning (just in case!!) and other bits of jobs done too. Found time to relax and feet up with a book. Did lots of wildlife watching and got the bird feeders up and filled. All our favourites were soon back with us and I never tire of watching them all. We had the short trip up to Ripon for a browse and, of course, lunch. I was good and had steak and salad but Mr TA had his with chips and all the trimmings! I have tried to keep to the BSD as well as I could but not been on the scales yet this week.
Must do some shopping this morning as the fridge is looking a bit bereft of fresh food, though the freezers and cupboards are well stocked so we won't starve! I have two washer loads to dry so will check the forecast and see if it's getting dried indoors or out!
Well better move, three children wanting their breakfast. As usual they will all want different things! Have a good day all (((HUGS))) to all in need.wanting them and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone
It's sunny here this morning but I think we will have some rain before the end of the day. Hubby has gone off to work happy as it's his half day today and the girls are getting ready for school.
My friend came yesterday and really enjoyed her meal so that is one to do for all of us next week. The girls polished off the leftovers when they came home from school as they are always starving when they walk through the door. Tonight I am making chicken chow mein, another new recipe but hopefully it will be appreciated.
I have to make an appointment for the doctors today as I need to have my yearly M.O.T done and I have a few niggly but painful issues I would like sorted.
I finished the back of a cardigan yesterday and I am really pleased with how it turned out. Hopefully I will finish the whole thing today as it is only a 1st size. I should have enough wool to make a matching hat and booties.
JackieO, I hope you have a lovely week away with your friend. Speky, I really like the inspirational quotes you post every day.
Welcome to the new posters, I am looking forward to hearing about your days.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all,
Damp here but will hopefully dry up later, off to work for me but its Friday :jand my weekend off !
Evie is doing well thank you all, her bum is a lot better and her eyes on the mend, hopefully that is it for a while as the bills have been expensive !
Got a chap coming to cut the front and back hedges today, OH cut through the cable on our hedge trimmer and so the hedges have got out of hand, the back one in particular, he quoted a really reasonable price and is cutting them back far enough so that we can keep on top of them.
Takeaway night tonight so looking forward to that and a glass or two
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all, thank you for starting us off today Gers.
Cloud and drizzle in the wet West Midlands so I hope it is nicer for you JackieO as you will be a bit further north. But I imagine you will have a good time even if it is Dreary weather.
Finally am having one of my set days off, lost yesterday to essential meetings. I have lots to do, house needs a good bottoming.
Last night I asked my DH and DS what they might like for dinner today but was greeted with blank looks and thus they will be fed whatever I choose,
The bathroom door came off its hinges last night and am relying on DH to fix that today as am not that prudish but I don't really like having a poo in semi-public. We are announcing visits to the bathroom since we can't close the door.
Yesterday's washing is dangling damply on the racks, fortunately brought in by DH when the rain started, when I came in, it was just like a bucket being emptied from the sky, quite spectacular really. But wetly spectacular.
DH tells me that the weatherman told him that big storms are on the way with thunder, lightning and snow but when I asked where and when he said that he did not listen to that bit so less than helpful somehow.
I should get cracking really but am just lounging about so must get my act together.
Have a good day everyone.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone,
Lashing it down here and set to stay that way all day, Tilly spaniel's ears are all curly after her morning walk.
Day off today, need to go shopping for a few bits, mainly veg and salad stuff as seem to really get through it on the BSD, do have £40 worth of Mr Sparks vouchers so think will go there and stock up on chicken and fish for the freezer as well.
Other than that just need to do some chores, the towels need changing but do like to TD them so the weather won't stop that. We have Mum coming to stay tomorrow, she hasn't been for a few weeks so looking forward to that, she has a full and busy social life so good we could get a slot :rotfl:
Jackie hope you have a lovely break with your friend, we stayed near to Leek last year and had a lovely time. Haddon Hall especially was so interesting and very atmospheric.
Anyways, tea is getting cold, have a good day all x0 -
Morning :hello:
Mr tru is driving me nuts. Actually he's not, I won't allow it. He's been annoying for almost 18 months, slowly getting worse. This week he's blamed everything and everyone for anything that goes wrong – twice this week there have been 'problems', I can't even remember what he was annoyed about at the beginning of the week, the issue was so small. Yesterday he opened a tin of old-ish, half used white paint and it was a bit gritty, he got annoyed and dragged up everything that had ever gone wrong in his life – most were on a par with the gritty paint – and blamed everyone else for all of it. I said nothing til he asked what I thought, I said he was constantly saying 'it's not my fault', constantly blaming other people for stopping him doing what he wants to do (starting a business is one of those things, no-one's preventing him from doing that, in fact a lot of people have commented that he should and two have offered to help out) and constantly making everything about him. He denied it all, then went on to say that it is about him, blamed other people/situations then ended with maybe he should leave but he hasn't done anything wrong so he shouldn't have to! Then he went to another room to sulk. No-one mentioned anyone leaving so I have no idea where that came from. After a while he went off to a friend's house, he was quite different when we came back so I'm guessing the friend was honest with him.
Moan over! I was trying to keep it short but it's still quite long – could've been much longer so I think I did quite well, lol.
Judi and JackieO xx
redruby I'm glad Evie's doing well
lol LameWolfredruby's advice about hiding the bells seems to done the trick - Scampi has touched them  He touched them very gently with his nose a few times, then rang them twice with his paw

Grey skies and rain this morning so I'm not sure how long our walk will be. I'm hoping I see someone I know near the shop so they can hold Scampi while I nip in, I can't leave him outside on his own – even though I can see him and will be just feet away - because he'll bark madly at anyone who walks past him, lol.
I have some felt pads for the chair legs in the kitchen, must get those stuck on today. I keep forgetting to do it, the floor will be scratched to bits in no time otherwise. Not sure what's happening later - shelves, bits of furniture, paint tins and brushes have been moved around a lot but the paint hasn't actually made it on to the walls yet! I might spend some time catching up with my favourite blogs, I haven't read them properly for ages.
