O/S Daily Thursday 14 April 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x
Now light, cloudy and overcast but dry underfoot, although the sky looks like rain, and it is forecast, we’ll see what today brings. Yesterday was beautiful and we had sunshine all day until late afternoon when it started to cloud over. I got a line of washing dry but doubt I will today, I’ll use the TD if I have to.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, but will wake him shortly to get ready for school.
Dinner last night was chicken, sausages, ham, LO bubble and squeak (made from LO veg from roast), roast potatoes, carrots, LO Yorkshires and gravy – real mix up but used up LO’s – nothing thrown away, also odd bits from the freezer (chicken and sausages not enough of either for a proper meal). Told DH it was a use up out of the fridge and freezer meal and he was fine as there was a variety of stuff on the plate and there was plenty. His issues surrounding food stem from his childhood – his mother is an ok cook, but when he was small they didn’t have very much money so budget was very tight, she has said to me in the past “you young one’s spend so much on food, you have to have everything, when I was bringing up my family I used to have to make a 1lb of mince last most of the week for all 4 of us,” my response to that was “well I’ve always worked and continue to do so whilst our children are small, so we can afford to buy decent food, but you used to smoke and you always had money for your cigarettes though didn’t you?” My thoughts are even though cigarettes may have been cheaper then it was still a portion of your weekly budget and not an essential purchase so that money could have been used to buy better food or something different. DH has said on many occasions that he would be given the same type of meal night after night, if they had grown something in the garden, ie, cabbages/cauliflower – every night that’s what they would eat until they were finished, in the summer they would have salad every night etc, so I can see where his food choices come from. I love salad and do eat most days but there’s certainly things I couldn’t eat day after day. I also don’t think she bought the best quality meat either, as he just can’t eat mince at all, as he says he if finds a gristly bit it puts him off, and hers very often was not nice with nasty bits in it. If I make lasagne, spag bol, shepherds pie I use quorn mince.
Tonight dinner will be roasted med veg tart, with stuffed jacket potatoes with cheese and bacon and baked beans.
Work yesterday was quite busy in the morning as we were short staffed but we managed the best we could and then it did slow down.
Now on days’ off, and have quite a “to do” list, but will just potter along and do the best I can.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
NMLC thanks for starting the thread.
I'm showered and dressed, hubby and I both have a cuppa, I'm off to help with the school run in a sec.
I ran out of paper again yesterday, it really is beyond a joke, I told everyone who moaned to go and speak to the person who refused to pass the order, but most of them refused.
Email sent to SS, containing phrases such as 'you are trying to save money by putting pressure on a pensioner' 'you have a legal duty of care, I see no evidence of said care' 'your lack of support is outstanding and making a difficult situation much harder' 'using emotional blackmail is an appalling way to work with someone with mental health issues', and so on and so forth!
Hubby and I have booked a weekend away later in the year, we are going to a boat show and will have a couple of nights in a cheap hotel at the same time.
It's time I fed the fish, they are lined up against the side of the tank, glaring at me.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning all. I managed to ignore the lump that was DH hitting the snooze button this morning, and got up. Now I find my gym class was a 'reserve' and there are still no spaced so I'm tempted to go back to bed.
S*d's law - I've been joining him on the snooze and missing classes since last Thursday when he started leave to write his thesis (which he hasn't started:eek:) At least I got the recycling out before the lorry - which I missed last week
I need to get some skates on and walk the Furry if I am going to make the 0745 though. Is it worth it to hang around until 0930 on the off chance someone cancels at the last minute? Mmmmm???
Have a great day everyone. Good going on the e-mail Hester. I can't wait to hear what they say.Goals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0 -
Morning everyone.
After my early night I feel much better, still got the cold but the nasty days are over - I hope.
Yesterday was a sort of non-day as I just pottered around most of the time. I got my email password reset and dealt with a couple of emails, did a little light pruning and stood st my window watching my squirrel feeding, hiding nuts and climbing up on the bird water basin for a drink. Entrancing.
I also got my invigilation dates in my calendar along with room numbers / dates. Even read the thick handbook from cover to almost cover!
Today I have to visit a neighbour to look at her on-going email problem and am then heading down to Glasgow for a few days. Mum is a little frailer than I'd like and needs a bit of TLC, thinks the loss of one of her grandson is hitting her harder than she shows.
Still on BSD wagon which I find hard to believe. I've cooked some chicken thighs so will take the meat with me for a few meals in Glasgow. Tomorrow morning I'm meeting up with some friends for an early breakfast in their hotel. They're here for the swimming Olympic trials / British champs at Tollcross - not athletes but part of the technical team.
Right, I suppose I should start my day. Looks like high tide outside, white skies with a hint of sun.
Happy Thursday everyone.0 -
Morning :hello:
redruby Thanks. The videos I watched – and the instuction booklet that came with the bells – all said to hang the bells in the preferred location and encourage him to ring them with a treat. It didn't occur to me to hide them away the rest of the time, I'll start doing that today.
I'm looking forward to the reply to Hester's email too
Scampi was fab yesterday, he sat next to me and had fuss from a couple of people while I drank my cuppa. We were at the cafe for about 30 minutes, he yelled at people a couple of times as they walked past but calmed down quickly. I'll sit a bit further back next time and he should be OK. We spent the rest of the time ambling around, pausing every few minutes so he could roll on the grassWe were out for an hour and forty five minutes, I was pleased because I didn't think he'd last that long!
Master tru is off to St Ives for a few days with his girlfriend. He's been working flat out lately so needs a break, hope the weather is nice for them.
Mr tru has decided to leave the bathroom for now and get started on the hall instead. He's left the bathroom in a mess and all the toiletries have been left in the bedroom, he's showing no sign of putting stuff back where it belongs. Can't wait til he's back at work.
I have a short list of things to do, what order I do them in depends on where mr tru is at the time. I'll make sure I'm in a different room to him

Morning all,
Looks to be a nice bright day here its been glorious most of this week although still cold at night.
Off to work for me today I am doing an online hygiene course while there which Is a bit boring but needs doing so shall do a bit more of that,
I had an appointment at the hospital yesterday with a consultant about my wrists, he has confirmed it as osteoarthritis so I need to be doing some reading up about it and what foods to eat / avoid, at least I know what im up against now.
Something with chips for dinner tonight will go and have a look in the freezer after this.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Typical April showers here today, bright and sunny one minute then pouring down the next.
Work all day today but then 3 days off. Finally got the farrier out to Bill yesterday, had started looking around for a replacement and made it clear that need more reliable service! Would hate to change as he knows my lad and his health issues, is a gentle considerate farrier but I do need someone I can rely on.
Hester good for you on the email, another here who can't wait for their response.
Tru ah, good boy Scampi, what a long way he has come, big credit to you
RR hugs re your wrists, like you say at least you have an answer now.
Have a good day all, take care folks x0 -
Morning All
RR - Hope you can get some help re the wrists. How is Evie?
HH - Looking forward to SS reply.
tru - Sounds like Scampi enjoyed himself, you are doing wonders for that little lad.
Gers - Your views sound lovely, that's about the only thing I miss about the old house but I can see Ben Lomond through the houses from here!
Not sure what the weather is going to do, no rain forecast but it is overcast at the moment. I'll put the washing out anyway.
Planted a couple of DDs balcony planters yesterday, the look lovely with some herbs and some flowers, I'll take them up over the weekend. If the weather stays ok I'll take some stuff from the cellar to the tip - there are some oil filled radiators in there that I brought from the old house but I've not needed them here and I'm sure they will have been damaged when the cellar flooded. Also going to try to strip some more paper from the kitchen as I brought the step ladder back from DDs.
Have a good day! Take care. XX0 -
Good Morning everyone and the forecast is good at the moment I have promised my DGS that if they help in the garden this morning we shall have a subway lunch.I have some decent vouchers so it won't break the bank.
Heard from my nephew Steven in France, my brother has been taken back into hospital, but they are hoping he will be well enought for the funeral tomorrow. My brothers other two Dds have flown down there so they will be around to help the family tomorrow.I would like to have gone but I am away to the north tomorrow for a wwek and I can't really let the other person down as I am driving. So difficult as I wanted to be with Davey for support:(:(. My nephew said that he will keep in touch and let me know how he is coping though and I may go down nxt month if I can arrange it.
Well I'm just going to have some breakfast then scoot off to Dds as I have the boys today.
Hope everyone is coping OK with the sudden burst of spring weather

Good Morning everyone, it's a fine start here today but a bit chilly at the moment. He Who Knows has been up to the greenhouse and planted some pots of salad leaves and round beetroot seeds and is about to head off to walk the dog and I'm tidying round the house, having a shower and heading off to the city for a few things we need. Got some super pictures from DD2 and Zebra who are still in the USA particularly sweet are the ones where they are standing beside a beautiful waterfall and Zebra is trying to work out why it's only raining in one place, the look on his face is so confused and he's wearing his dinosaur hat too, so cute! They're just back from a few days in the Yosemite National Park which they say was absolutely amazing. A few days in San Francisco and them flying home on Sunday night. They've had such a lovely time and I'm looking forward very much to going down to visit in the not so distant future.
JACKIE it's so difficult dealing with such an emotive happening at a distance but it sounds as though your brothers family are rallying round him and he's being supported well. You need your break away so go with a clear mind and don't feel guilty for not being there, in these days of easy communication you can support him and his family from wherever you are love, you work hard for your own lovely little family all the time and a break for YOU is important so enjoy your week away and try not to fret!
Have yourselves a nice day, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one.
Dull morning, not sure if it's raining, I am still in bed, OH told me to stay put when he got up. Might go to Bingham today instead of tomorrow. We need to return library books and I need cash to pay the chap for fitting the outside tap on Saturday.
Had a little play on the new machine yesterday, it is quite different to the other embroidery machines I have had. It is very much more sophisticated.
Jackie, do not beat yourself up about your SIL' funeral. The family will understand, it sounds as though you brother has a lot of support. I am sure that a visit in a few weeks will be appreciated. It's difficult I know to be between a rock and a hard place. Take care.
I too am looking forward to the SS reply to Hester, the next few weeks should be interesting. If they continue to bully her, the local newspaper would be delighted to run the story. Another nail in the SS coffin!!!!0
