Dried beans - how long can you store for?
Have found a large jar of dried butter beans (bought 2007) in my cupboard and a large jar of cannellini beans (same age). Are they still worth soaking and cooking or will they be well past their best? Am never sure how long dried pulses can be stored for before they become unpalatable when cooked. I usually pressure cook…

BBQ & cocktails - catering for 30
Hi there, I'm new around here but loads of great tips! Thanks everyone! I'm wondering if I can seek some ideas/tips for a party I'm hosting in the summer. BBQ and cocktails. It will be all girls, about 25-30 of us with a handful of non drinkers (maybe 4?) I've never organised anything for so many people and am finding it…

HM pizza woes
A few weeks ago I made a home made pizza, making dough in the bread maker. There was leftover dough so I made two individual bases and froze them (raw). Last week I used one of them - took it out the freezer, put toppings on, bunged it in the oven, and it came out amazingly. Rose really well, tasted great, just like fresh.…

What to do with a small Silverside joint?
I've got a whoopsied prime silverside joint defrosting on the side for tomorrow's dinner. I'd normally roast it, but its only 0.8kg, and it's for a midweek dinner, so doesn't seem worth heating the oven up, doing a full on roast/yorkshires etc dinner. Needs to feed 2 adults and 2 children - what would you do with it?…

Saving ahead of maternity leave
Hi, I have just found out I am pregnant, due in November. Looking to save as much as I can ahead of not working next year etc (might end up being off longer than a year as partner is away with work so childcare would possibly be too costly) I am currently able to save around £250 per month, but I know that I can probably…

Aldi Homestyle Steam Mop
I bought my first steam mop in Aldi on Sunday, thinking for £25 I've not wasted too much if I hate it - but it seems a great improvement on getting down on hands and knees and scrubbing! So far I am very pleased with my purchase - anyone else got one?

Many, many cheese triangles!!!
Does anyone have ANY idea what to do with 20 cheese triangles?! My LB went through a stage of eating them daily so I went to Lidl and bought a pack of 24. Now, however, he has decided that he doesn't like them so I am left with loads and don't know what to do with them. I'm really loathe to let them go off!! Ant ideas?

Combination Microwave oven - Questions
Hi I need a new microwave oven and im thinking about paying the extra to go for a combination microwave but I have a couple of questions, firstly are they any good? How well do they work as a standalone grill and how well do they work as a standalone oven? Can you use metal in them using grill and oven facility in them.…

Recycling soap - have you done it?
Hi, I've got a small cup of slivers of leftover soap that I never like to throw away. I would love to create a new bar where they are all smushed together into a nice new mingling of different scents! I've read some articles about how to do it but they all seem quite contradictory, and I remember you used to be able to buy…

Ink Stains
Not sure if this is the right place for my question, but I thought the Old Stylers would be the most likely people to have the answer! Despite multiple tellings off, my boyfriend has left a pen in his work uniform (again) and chucked it in the washing machine. Naturally, the pen has not touched a thing of his, but the ink…

Bleach splashes on a brown cord jacket
Hello, I was given a lovely brown cord jacket & whilst visiting a friend got some splashes of bleach on the jacket:eek: . The fabric where the bleach has gone has turned yellow:mad: . So, it's a cotton lined jacket would I be able to dye it back to chocolate brown or should I splatter the jacket with bleach so that the…

not a good cook but need to try and save money on grocery shopping!
I really need to get on track with my grocery budget but the trouble is I'm the world's worst cook, and I don't actually enjoy cooking, if I am honest, which puts me off doing a lot of cooking from scratch. I tend to buy a lot of things ready-made because, frankly, they taste better than any of my attempts to make a meal…

Opposite of hoarding anxiety - no name for this!
Over the years I learned to live without too much clutter, just the necessary or minor stuff and don't hoard beyond storing dry foodstuffs and cleaning gear (one shelf each only) I got married again, and as my husband is from a south Asian country have visited there a few times and the fact that some people manage very…

Cheap Family Recipes - Meal Plan Website
I know that cheap-family-recipes.org.uk was made by members of this forum and I was just wondering if anyone uses the meal plans from it or has in the past? How did you find it? We're giving it a go this month, got my shopping today and made calzone for dinner, although I just threw it together as usual with my wholegrain…
