What is the best sponge for a birthday cake?
Hi, I'm looking at making a theme birthday cake and have always been unsuccessful with my sponges. I have used the 4/4/4/2 (flour, sugar, butter, eggs and a bit of baking powder) but it is a little soft for the stability i need. And for some reason always sinks 30% even when baked all the way through. Again used a maderia…

Melting chocolate in Microwave.
Has anyone had a problem melting chocolate in the microwave? I put some cooking chocolate from Mr A - stated - can be melted in microwave - in a MW bowl - nearly blew up the Microwave. The MW made an awful noise after a few seconds! There was a burning smell and I have a burn mark on the inside panel now. My microwave is…

Bathroom Stinks!

Ripped out all the old carpet, toilet, bath etc and put down bi carb and talc but 4 weeks later it still stinks. :( I'm going to pull the floorboards up while I can, and possibly replace them, but what can I use to draw the smell out? I have the window…

Cork bath mat
Anyone seen this around any of the main outlets lately? I see I can buy one from the internet for £10 and upwards but last year it was available in The Range for a fiver or less and I thought it was worth asking here.

Veal Mince
My mum is making spag bol out of this today as an experiment for my two little girls. Will it taste a lot different to the beef mince they are used to? Not sure if I've ever had veal mince before.

Deep Fat Fryers
Do people still use these? What else besides chips can you cook in them? Doughnuts maybe? I've never owned one, always cook my chips in the oven (or the halogen oven), but just wondered if there was a wide usage still?

took my eye off the ball
My weekly shop arrived whilst I was out & my oh put shopping away, which I am grateful. He also got the meat out of the freezer last night for dinner today. Cut a long story short, I've just gone to fridge & realised that the meat shoul have been halved. My question is can I cook it then refreeze it to use as another meal?

Halloumi
I bought a block of halloumi cheese while it was on offer. Usually I make veggie skewers marinaded and grilled/bbq, but I'd like to try doing something different with it and wondered if anyone has any delicious recipes or ideas for halloumi that they'd recommend and would like to share. Thanks in advance :cheesy:

Chips
Is it cheaper to buy chips or make them from potatoes? I saw in tescos chips a lot cheaper per kg than potatoes but I wonder if they have got added water.

Can I make quiche without cream?
I have looked around the world of google for quiche recipes that don't use cream, however, it seems if you don't use cream they suggest full fat milk or cream cheese instead but I don't have anything other than semi-skimmed milk and want to have my second NSD today. Does anyone have a recipe for quiche using just milk at…

Random cupboard item challenge
I'd like to make lunch to take into work for the next few days while spending as little as possible. I've just looked through my cupboards and came across a Maggi sauce mix which was originally in a race-finishers goodie bag. It's not something I would ever buy otherwise. I kept it mostly for amusement purposes (you'll see…
