Veal Mince

My mum is making spag bol out of this today as an experiment for my two little girls.
Will it taste a lot different to the beef mince they are used to? Not sure if I've ever had veal mince before.

Veal is simply young beef, and a bit less strong in flavour. Many Italians use this or pork mince in preference to using beef. Enjoy0

Theres not alot of difference bar that it is a lighter flavour to normal beef mince0

I have used it and it is delicious,0

Worse than eating battery reared chickens. The poor babies never even had a chance to see grass.0

A couple of decades ago I wouldn't have touched it, but things have changed and veal these days is raised (especially in the UK) as ethically as any other meat, the animals are much older at slaughter time than any pork/lamb will have been.

Sorry, but you are way out of date with your comment. The "babies" would have been around 6 months old and would have had an outdoor life and grass/silage diet which creates the rose pink meat.
OP, italians traditionally use veal mince for ragu and meatballs, rather than beef mince, which is what I use it for too.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Ramsey, Jamie O. or HF-W showed in one of their programs how "boy cow" babies would just be shot and dumped - probably for cat/dogfood traditionally because Brits are squeamish about veal. I'm glad this is changing and the baby boys are not killed for nothing. I own birds and have to dispose of boys - they end up in friends' freezers. Shame for the lives but part of rearing animals. It's meat , hence food. Hope you and your family enjoyed it!First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

I've posted on the daily thread, but my kids loved it! Was amazed. My 3year old generally doesn't eat mince, but we persuaded her to try it by telling her it was different meat and she actually ate what we put on her plate (which wasn't a lot, but still).
My 5yr old loves her spag bol and ate her bit as per normal, but said it was nice.
There was enough left over for me to freeze for another day for the girls.
I thought it was really nice as well, slightly different taste to normal beef mince and as I'm counting calories, was pleasantly surprised that it had half the amount of weightwatcher points as normal beef. Defo going to buy that again.
Not sure how much I pay for normal beef, but I know mum paid £4 for 500g or she could have got three packs for £10, but hey if it's a little bit more money, it's definitely worth it as we don't eat mince that often.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Pollyanna my now 27 month old adores veal! I'm not sure where you've got it from but if it's from Tesco, make a trip to Waitrose. It's still the same three for £10 offer but is a lot nicer. I'm not sure what Mr T do to theirs but it's just not as nice. Waitrose also do some nice Parmesan stuffed veal mini meatballs. My LO loves them too.
For all the naysayers you need to get with the programme, white veal (kept in sheds) is illegal I'm the UK. It is rose veal, that's been outside like every other beef cattle out there. The calf hasn't been killed immediately (most are shot soon after birth) and it's opened up a life for the cow and market for the male cattle born.
It's versatile, delicious and very learn. I've just taken some out of freezer for tonight's dinner after reading this read.

Ethical veal exists?
Brilliant!
Assorted recipies from "Cooking in a Bedsit" by Katharine Whitehorn (which was sadly dated by its use of veal) can now be tried. What's not to love about the difference between "cooking to survive" & "cooking to impress"?!0
