This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Better sleep last night but still not enough of it. Eye seems to be starting to get better and cold is dissipating. Roll on some days off at Easter to recuperate.

Did some serious calculations last night and decided to spend last of "spare" redundancy money on debt. We still have endowment shortfall money put aside but this pretty mush wipes out any other emergency fund. Gasp .... but it feels great!

Lamb mince curry for dinner with cauliflower and cabbage done in Southern Indian style. DH has bean salad for lunch, I have smoked mackerel and cream cheese. Has anyone else noticed how expensive smoked mackerel is recently?

Congratulations to Emma on the engagement

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Congrats Emma!
JackieO - Great you have a date for your op.
TTFTM - Glad you're getting better.
    Some good buys hilstep!
LW - Enjoy your furry friend!
Hugs to those feeling under the weather.

The washing is on the airer as it was raining when I got up, DD can put it on the line if it clears up as she is off today. Must do some ironing, not sure I have any work clothes left! Will search the freezer for something for tea, not sure what I fancy yet.

I am sure you are all fed up of hearing about the house renovation but have to tell you that DDs bedroom window was fitted yesterday and it looks great. Carpet in DS2s room going down today and I can pick up DDs new bed tomorrow (free delivery to the store but £39.99 to deliver it here and we live about 3 miles from the store!!). At last some things seem to be coming together.

Work and then hospice today, will try to do some housework when I get home but will leave the downstairs bathroom till tomorrow as the builders use it.

Have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, dull, cloudy and raining quite heavily again. It started raining on and off yesterday – and at times we had hailstones too. Stopped overnight and has now just gone really dark and started again.

DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.

Dinner last night was another late one, DH rang to say he’d be late and the joint of gammon I put in the oven took a bit longer to cook than I’d calculated – it was a large joint though. We had gammon, new potatoes, green beans, peas, mushrooms and hollandaise sauce for those that wanted it. The gammon was absolutely delicious and there’s plenty left for tonight’s dinner – we’ll be having cold gammon, jacket potatoes, salad etc – there may still be some left for sandwiches.

I’ve checked the bank this morning and the refund for the gym membership that I’ve been battling for has at last hit the bank account. I rang the company yesterday afternoon as I’d heard nothing and a letter was produced and sent out yesterday apparently advising that the money was being transferred straight to my bank within the next few days – which it has – I’m really pleased as it looked like I’d lost the money and wouldn’t be able to get anything back!

Was reasonably productive yesterday afternoon – did all my normal jobs and now just need to do washing, drying and ironing, packing etc today. Decided as time would be tight and I then start getting overwhelmed etc that I’d do an on-line shop to be delivered later this afternoon so I haven’t got to worry about doing a food shop today – it always costs a bit more but saves me getting stressed and overwhelmed – I will have a small window of time tomorrow morning when I can shoot into a SM to get anything that I’ve forgotten etc but it’s not long enough to do a full weekly shop IYSWIM.

    Keep safe and well x

    Hi everybody,

    Good new nmlc.

I did go to the Cruse drop-in yesterday and spoke to a counsellor for about an hour. I don't know if I'll go back. I think last week was so difficult because my birthday was at the beginning of it, hopefully it will get better from now on. As I told the counsellor we were brought up not to be sentimental or emotional so this has knocked me off kilter.

Anyway, today I have to collect a delivery from M & S the I want to come home and tidy my quilting things, DH said he felt as if he was living in a quilting shop, which I must admit is fair. I've been obsessed with finishing the blocks for a big quilt, 100 of them, all different. I shall put it away now for a while because I want to make a dress and quilt a small quilt for ds.

    Have a good day.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Love coming on here and getting new ideas (mainly for food I must admit!). Lamb mince curry, that sounds nice.

On the topic of mince, after using veal mince for the first time yesterday and my girls loving it and with it being lower in fat and calories, what else can I make out of it? The only other things I really make out of are cottage pie and sometimes burgers.

Came into work this morning and the pipes have burst. Eek. They have been doing something on the top floor of the building for months, but now apparently all their work is ruined so they will be here longer now. I might venture out of my room in a bit and see if I can find someone to ask if 1. the toilet is working! and 2. if I’m allowed to use the kettle.

Re online shopping, I’m going to have a look in a minute to see when Morrisons are going to start delivering in my area. I quite like that shop for their meats and stuffs.

Dinner tonight is the ready meal that I didn’t eat yesterday and the girls are having nuggets, chips and beans. Sometimes it’s nice to do the easy stuff.

Right, I have to find a new recipe for Monday to try them out with. No idea what I’ll give them this time as this Monday’s didn’t go down too well (pulled pork), but I shall keep trying.

    Morning all,

Cool here htoday, but must go and do some grocery shopping as lots of bits but not much to make dinners....just going to have egg salad sandwich for brunch with a bucket of tea.

Nothing exciting happening here these days, would like to get some tidying done in garden but too stiff and sore...have been trying to get some of my books in from my fathers workshop...they have been in bags there for years.

Hugs to all, especially those in trouble of any kind.

    Morning all, Just

Been to WW and I've lost 5 lb so feeling very pleased with myself:A
I can honestly say it's been really good this week lots of healthy fruit and veg, lean meats, which is the way a I try and eat anyway, just cut out the rubbish and the snacks.
    pollyanna what about veal chilli?

My legs are painful so going to have a rest and then make some beef chilli for tea. I shall have mine with brown rice.
A nice day here but still chilly.
Camelot I love hearing about stuff your doing to your house. My favourite topic. We've just finished panelling the bath which looks great and about to start on the walls.

Anyway nothing much else happening, have a good day x
