urgent! Removing tart from tin
Hi, I've just made a treacle tart (to eat watching Great British Bake Off tonight) and I don't know whether to let it cool before trying to take it out of the tin or to do it now while it's hot? It's spring based, and I greased it. Help!

Hubbie took frozen sarnies to work for first time!
Cheese ones. And he said they were nicer than fresh ones lol (think that may be because he was saving money!). I bought a loaf yesterday on it's last day (a nice one) which was half price (70p). I made the whole lot up with £1 of cheese. So, £1.70 for his sarnies for the week. I've told him to keep the freezer bags so that…

Cleaning badly soiled feather quilt
Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but no doubt the mod will move it to its proper home if it isn't! Basically I got a a really fab, expensive kingsize feather quilt from Debenhams years ago, and while I was on holiday one of my cats has decided to pee on it. I have no idea how to clean it. I…

Plugholes - beyond YUK !
We have just moved, and are reeling from it all. All the plugholes in our 'new' (not new) house have what looks like hair stuck in them, black and very evil looking. They completely disgust me, but I can't get rid of it. Rubber gloves and trying to pick it out with a screwdriver doesn't work, nor does Buster drain stuff…

eating seasonal veg!
DH and I had a long discussion over breakfast about this and I was wondering whether there's any advantage in doing this nowadays? We both remember frozen peas arriving on the UK market (probably late 50s??) and went on to speculate as to whether we belong to the last generation who remember a time when if it wasn't…

Making ends meet (or just slightly closer together)
Where to start? The current outgoings need to be cut by £200 minimum to make way for nursery fee's and various expensive school trips coming up soon. The biggest chunk goes on food, utilities and a financially blind OH who spends like its payday everyday  Family of 6 (OH, me, dd10, ds6, ds1 and dd 6m)

How to reduce the glycemic index of the meal?
Hi, I have cut down on meat eating quite substantially, as it is neither wholesome, good for the environment nor for the wallet. But if I make soups, and eat rice or some type of bread like naan as a side, the GI of the meal seems to be too high, and even though I feel full for some time, it quickly subsides and I need to…

I'm trying to economise and on Sunday bought value tuna in brine which I have just dumped into a pesto and vegetable sauce. It's so salty, it's sucking all the water out of me! Is there anything I can do to rescue it? Thanks in advance.

Can we have share alcohol subs tips
We don't drink much & never beer & red wine. If a recipe calls (say a stew) calls for Guinness, would you use a cheaper beer (like store brand bitter) instead, as you will use a little & throw the rest away? Can we have share alcohol subs tips for not big drinkers.

Packed lunch for adult
I am seriously trying to cut down on both spending and calories, therefore I am making a real effort from tomorrow (Monday) to take lunch with me, my problem is that I always end up leaving in a hurry and forgetting my lunch and then go and buy something. In an ideal world, I would like to take a weeks worth in with me on…

some help with pulses, beans etc please
I'd like to incorporate beans and pulses more into our daily diet. I've bought a tin of Green Lentils and a carton of Cannellini Beans but would like to know if I can just add these to one of my usual dishes like spag bol, curries and stews etc. I am a little wary as I know some pulses etc can be dangerous if not cooked in…

Low sugar jam recipe?
I usually make quite a lot of jam with various lots of free fruit I acquire, but as OH and I are now trying to watch what we eat, when I have bought jam recently I have bought the low sugar version or pear and apple spread, in a vain attempt to be healthier. Now I'm about to start foraging for fruit again, I wondered…
