Terracotta Pot cooking-Jamie @ Home
Apologise if this is in the wrong section. I've been given a set of terracotta pots from the Jamie at Home range but without the instructions. There is a huge oven pot with lid made from unglazed terracotta.I was given a vague idea that I had to soak them twice then coat in oil before using. I have searched the net to no…

How to make light shades?
I'd really like some small, light shades with the cut out effect. I like these ones but the colour won't match the room - is there any way I can paint them (safely as these lights are used regularly)? Or even make something similar?

Help! I *need* to shrink my jeans :D
Loosing weight is great till it comes to replacing my clothes... stupidly I bought some skinny jeans not a month ago while on holiday. I am rather fond of them... they won't stay UP any more - and they certainly ain't skinny. What they are though is very bold coloured. I have been using a belt but now it just looks silly.…

Sandwich tins
Hello you lovely people! I am wondering whether you could help me? (if this is in the wrong place, I apologise; I'm an avid reader of these forums but I rarely post). I've been rather busy lately (I got married in August!) and I've had lots of study for my OU physics degree to complete by the end of August (along with…

On the "when you reach breaking point" thread people started to talk about what they can do without. I know it is all relative to your lifestyle but I found it fascinating and started to wonder if I to could cut items out of my life to save money and clear cupboard space. So I thought it would be nice that this sort of…

Hi, I have some dried dates, raisins, cranberries and a few other suspicious looking fruit bags that I found when clearing out my cupboards earlier. Boiling condensed milk for caramel
I want to make some caramel for a recipe. Now it says in the recipe I can buy dulce de leche, or boil unopened tins of condensed milk for the caramel. The tins say NOT to boil unopened as might explode? I know its H&S but can I boil them? And if so-do I just bung them in a pan and cover, or have water half way up? Can they…

Tried and tested uses for chappati flour?
Hi everyone. I'm sure I'm posting this in the wrong place so please relocate me :D My OH was being rather OS when he purchased a humongous bag of chappati flour which was about the same price as two packs of made chappatis. Which is great. Except we've still got over half a bag of the flour left. I hate waste so I'd like…
