Old Style Daily Thread Sun 9th Sept 2012 Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 9th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in,put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Clear blue sky, sun already shining, it's quite warm already - makes a change that we've got some good weather at the weekend, not whilst everyone's at work/school!

Boys had a great time yesterday at the drag racing, we had just finished dinner when they got back, so I was able to reheat theirs and they had nice meal after being out in the fresh air all day. Today we're going to mum and dad's for a bbq at lunchtime, I'm taking a roasted tomato dish, I will finish on here, get a shower and brekkie then do that as it's served cool/cold. We've organised the food etc between us all with everyone providing something, means it's much less work/running around/stress for mum and dad. We'll be having a chilled day without too much running around etc.

Have some leftovers from the roast, so that will be dinner sorted for Mon or Tues night, will make some cauli/brocc cheese to go with it as there's not that much meat left, so will need to bulk the meal out a bit. Have a sort of menu plan for the rest of the week, fridge and storecupboard is full to bursting, so I'm sure we won't starve! Will be trying not to visit SM or shops during the week, seem to have been spending way too much on food/groceries in the last few weeks, really need to cut this down if possible. Did do some baking on Friday made some Twinks and a Victoria sponge, will put the jam and cream in the sponge tomorrow night as if I put it in now, the menfolk just keep eating until it's gone, if it's not ready then they can't! It does mean though that we get further through the week before I hear the cries of "there's nothing left in the tins"!

Back to work tomorrow, no doubt another manic Monday!!

Be careful in the sun, remember the suncream x

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

  • Morning nmlc and all who cross/follow
Lovely & sunny here today & I have one more washing load to do.
Yesterday I made a batch of Jerk chicken, a batch of plain rice & a batch of vegetable rice, so with the chilli I made last week that is hubby's pack ups sorted for next week.
I've been back at work a week & I'm already fed up with not seeing much of him. I'm working 7:00 'til 3:30, he's working 2 'til 10, he's asleep when I get up & I'm ready for bed by the time I've collected him, he had to wait 'til yesterday for his birthday present, lol.
It's not looking good on the SS front as we haven't heard anything for 3 weeks now, very disappointing.
Lunch/tea today will be ham with HG potatoes, runners & carrots.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning all, Hope all is well

Was going to start the thread this morning, but was not sure of the protocol as only been here a little while.

Woke very early (5:00) could not get back to sleep so got up.
Emptied the dish washer and hung out the washing that was done over night. DW will be very pleased, possibly.

Got our new chickens yesterday, so today will be working to make the run sides higher as they have already made a couple of bids for freedom.
Will also need to clip their wings.

Will then sit down to watch the Grand Prix, Maclaren on pole and second, so should hopefully do well.

Then i need to clear the end section of the garden, at the moment it is just a huge compost heap. This is going to be the permanent chicken run once it is sorted.

    Take care all.

    Sy..

  • Morning all

nlmc - can you change the thread title, as there is no way it's December yet! :rotfl:

Lovely sunny start to the day here, hoping it stays. I'm going to have a lazy-ish day. My new group of work kids start on Tuesday so it's going to get hectic, so want to recharge my batteries a bit. So today I plan on going for a jog, doing some college work, watching the F1 (although highlights only as I don't have Sky so need to avoid finding out the result first ), maybe some blackberrying, and sitting out in the garden if it's warm :). I do need to pop to shops for a few bits too.

OS wise - WM is on with load 1 of 2, will go out on whirly soon. Kitchen needs a wipe over. Rubbish needs to go out. I may make a roast as I have spuds to use up, or big pot of mash to freeze. Laundry to put away.

    Have a good day all

ps In case you missed it, I put a link to my Graduation pictures on yesterdays thread, if anyone cares to see them!

Hester - dont think 3 weeks is anytime in the world of ss!

Misty start here today, its going to be hot later. Am off out shortly to take DS to football - least he isn't playing in the hotest part of the day.

Rest of the day - not sure, went to my good friends daughters 21st last night and am very tired. Might just be an afternoon in the garden:eek:

    Have a great day all.x

    Morning all

Have been awake half the night. Baby is putting a lot of pressure down there and on my back. Hurt to lie on either side so I gave up and sat upright.

But that means bathroom has been scrubbed and dw is on. Went to get some clean towels out of the airing cupboard and accidently woke ds up. Iota in his room. He came down with me and now sleeping on the sofa.

Plan for today is to move ds' bed and strip it. It's in an awkward place at the mo. The airing cupboard needs sorting and need to pop to b & q to see if they have a small shelving unit. The old one is falling apart.

Our bedding also needs doing. Upstairs need hoovering throughout. Most of this is going to be jobs for hubby :o lol. I'll wipe the kitchen over...

Also need to get a thin dressing gown. Struggling to find a nice one... It will be too hot in hospital for thick one. I don't want to spend a lot on one as I rarely wear them. It just for hospital really...

Bargainbird... You hiding again? Hope things are ok x

Syman... Anyone can start the thread. Just copy/paste the first post and change the date....

    Have gd day everyone

Morning all - beautiful day here. The season is turning because increasing numbers of our cats are spending the night in odd places dotted around the house, instead of sleeping outside. 5 of the 9 were in last night, and No 8 is currently on the back of my chair putting her cheesy bum on my head. I managed a good night's sleep after a few disrupted nocturnal ones, and seem to be back to small proper eating which is great. We had minted lamb shanks with mash and cauli cheese last night.

DH is still asleep. The plan for me is to do the extensive washing-up, shower, potter for a bit with laundry, and then start lugging stuff up to Oxfam when they open; I should be able to do a few trolleyfuls of books which will be a good start to clearing the decks. I was forced to tidy yesterday as my 17-month old niece (Spawn of Satan) grabbed everything, and all small items ended up on my computer desk out of her clutches! She's obssessed with jellybellies and noonie-fur at the moment so we females were all prodded, poked and stroked. She surprised DH in the bathroom but he stayed calm, and then she got stuck escaping through the catflap. She's started to do impressions of Nanny hobbling along with her cane. She's more sunny-natured than my other niece (13) was at that age.

Not sure what's on the menu today - we have some spuds to use up and a freezerful of mince so it might well be shepherds pie tonight and something like cheese omelette for lunch. I'm finding rice too filling at the moment so spuds are a better option for me. At some point I need to reorganise the pantry under the stairs as it's chaos on the shelves and the plastic bags are breeding. I might also bake a Victoria sponge and/or a lemon drizzle cake to use up some cupboard supplies. I have lots of flour in my baking cupboard which is probably out of date, but as long as it doesn't actually move when I look at it, I reckon I'm good to go :)

EDIT: Going to try Indian-style mince with potatoes and peas tonight, so will pop to the local Turkish supermarket for fresh ginger, garlic, a single chilli and yoghurt. Another challenge for me at some point is to label the herbs and spices. I have something like 30 matching glass jars from IKEA, and I just tipped stuff in. Some stuff I can recognize instantly by look/smell, others are a bit hit or miss ("vaguely Indian, vaguely Italian"), so it would help us both to have everything labelled.

    Morning all,:j:j

    Sunny and warm here already,

Very hot here yesterday afternoon. Yesterday morning we went to a local Victorian day, At neverton . Quite a good day. It was very busy there.

Today the Girls are off to church. Then after that we shall be going up to one of the local Pubs as they have a small car boot sale on there car park.
Back home for sandwich's and then we are taking the girls Black berry picking.

MIL and FIL are In France on holiday. So the Girls are here all day today.
We will have a roast pork dinner tonight,

School again tomorrow. Only half a day again for them both. Then No school on Tuesday. Wednesday will be there first full day at school.

I hope that you are all going to be making the most of this sunshine and warm weather. It looks like there will be cold and rain moving in next week to cover a lot of the country. This weekend might be the last of the warm weather we will get this year, But I hope not!

    Enjoy your day all:j:j
:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j
  • Lou - they had some nice thin dressing gowns in Matalan the other day, cotton or satiny types, about £10-12.
