Terracotta Pot cooking-Jamie @ Home

Apologise if this is in the wrong section.
I've been given a set of terracotta pots from the Jamie at Home range but without the instructions. There is a huge oven pot with lid made from unglazed terracotta.I was given a vague idea that I had to soak them twice then coat in oil before using.
I have searched the net to no avail so I'm hoping there might be someone here who has and uses them.:)

Hi ostaragirl,
I don't own the type of pots you are talking about but I did a quick google on 'how to treat terracotta cookware' and found these links which may help.

Thanks for links!
but oh dear every way is different from soaking it for 2 hrs or 12 hrs, rubbing it with garlic then oil, filling or not filling it half way with water and from putting it in a cold oven and some say a hot oven!
Hopefully someone who has used terracotta pots will be able to help. The one I have is unglazed on both the inside and outside.
Scared to do anything in case it breaks.
And what amazes me most is that these things retail at £40!! no way would I have paid that when the chances are its going to crack!0 -
Is there a jamie@home website that gives maybe an e mail or phone number for any enquires?
It would be awful to break it beacuse of the lack of information.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks, the website is for consultants but I've filled out an enquiry form using the 'other'option so hopefully they will send me instructions.:p0

I had an original unglazed chicken brick from Habitat probably about 30 years ago and it's still going strong.
I've never oiled it or soaked it and I've never washed it !
Just hot water when out the oven and scrub off.
It's now dark brown and shiny and cooks the best chicken ever ( and lamb and beef).
But saying that most of the food I cook in it is dryish.
So good luck and may your terracotta last as long.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z Able Archer0 -
