Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 4th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in,put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Off to the chalkface today, I have no carpet, no computer, no storage, no heating when winter arrives & nobody at the top gives a flying ffff. This is the 3rd year I have gone back to work in September to total chaos!
I've been awake since 4ish, still it's given me chance to pack up some parcels for ebay & a couple of books I need to post off too.
Free lunch today at work since it's an inset day, after today I won't get lunchbreak 'til after 2 & so will have to eat at my desk earlier as I can't go 7 hours between breafast & lunch.
No evening meals for me to cook this week as hubby isn't finishing until 9:45, I've cooked a batch of HM readymeals for him & he takes one for lunch each day.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone,

Hester Good luck and remember it is less than 7 weeks to half term!

    Morning Shellieholly.

Work was ok yesterday but a bit busy, we have another training day today and then tomorrow the pupils arrive.

DS starts 6th form today so fingers crossed for him and DD1 and DD2 go back to school as well.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)
  • Good Morning all,
well Mikey went back to school yesterday and was full of enthusiasim for his new teacher, when he came home as she likes art, and he had been told about the native paintings from Australia and related it to me all about it in great detail :):)
Ben started back to 6th form and came home with his new timetable and full of what he was going to get up to over the next 2 years, he is doing English lit,History and Chemistry at 'A' level .
This morning Henry starts at senior school and is looking forward to it, albeit a little nervously.I helped him finish off his summer project and he was really pleased at how it had turned out,so that will be going to school with him this morning.
Jack doesn't go back until tomorrow even though they are at the same school I think they like to let the new intake start first without all the other big boys being there, which isn't a bad idea.I shall have to think of something to keep Jack amused with today. It looks like its going to be a nice day so maybe he can help strim my lawn.Henry was brilliant yesterday in cutting back the weeds in the front.
All the admin is up to date now and all the bills paid so whats left over will have to last until the end of the month, not too much of a problem as I still have a fairly full freezer and my tinned stuff has a good 3-4 weeks at least.
NSD for me until maybe Thursday as there's not a lot on my essentials list that I can't wait for a couple of days.
Forecast this week is good so I may do some more washing whilst the weather is good.Golly it was warm last night I woke up about 3.00.a.m. and had to open another window it was so humid. I'm going to make the most of it as soon winter will be here and the nights will draw in again.I've just had a thought I could take Jack up to the woods and see if we can forage for some blackberries for the freezer. When we were in Norfolk we saw some beauties growing wild.I love apple and blackberry pie, or sponge pud in January as it reminds me of the summer when its so cold and frosty outside.
Right I'm off to get a shower and some breakfast then I must remember to take my camera to get a photo of Henry in his nice new uniform (it won't last for long looking new :):))
Take care everyone and good luck to all who have children starting at their new schools today

Woke early so having a cuppa while browsing on here.

Got back from visiting dd in hospital last night to find youngest had baked little cakes to cheer us up. No diagnosis yet and still doing tests so might take her one of the fairy cakes when I go this afternoon.

Need to nip to shops this morning for milk eggs and bread and get something to defrost for tonight. Between getting oldest dd admitted to hospital on Sunday night and trying to get stuff for youngest to go to uni next week while attempting to have proper meals and keep things normal - I am getting a bit distracted. Will visit this afternoon as well as tonight and hope diagnosis is clearer.

I can't believe Elfnsafety let conditions get like that especially in your case. on your behalf.

Glad all the boys are so keen to be back at school and enthusiastic about subjects. You must be so proud of them all.
It seems strange not to have a dd at school or sixth form any more but less hectic at least till next week when the car will need Tardis like dimensions to fit in all the stuff for university and us.

    Hugs to all

    Morning everyone

Hester - sounds like you put up with quite a lot of c**p at your workplace - make sure you don't end up making yourself poorly - you should be getting some kind of break before 2pm - that's a long time to work without a break!

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Very light cloud covering with loads of blue sky, so sun trying to get out, forecast says sunshine all day, we'll see! DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was smoked sausage pasta with creme fraiche, followed by choc gateau and cream, enjoyed by us all. Mum and dad arrived just after we'd eaten to give DH his bday prezzie, think he'd had quite a nice day, as his work wasn't too busy - his less hectic days are like mine, becoming few and far between! Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket, beans/veg. Hairdresser is coming tonight too, then DH and boys wil be all tidy again.

Work as expected was a manic manic Monday - we just didn't stop all day, had a queue to the door most of the day and some really stroppy customers - so really hoping that today could be just a little less busy with a few less stroppy customers. I love my job but I really don't get paid enough to be shouted at, sworn at and told how F*****g useless we are, when people don't get told what they want to hear! There are a lot of genuine cases out there but a lot really don't help themselves and they very often make life choices are not good and then expect someone else to pick up the pieces. At least there was an upside to being so busy, I was completely exhausted when I got home, organised todays lunches, prepped and cooked the dinner, boys did their chores of unpacking and re-stacking the DW, I just cleaned down the worktops, changed in to my pjs, did some work on pc, internet etc, then read my book, went to bed and slept soundly all night - without waking once, didn't even hear DH get up to go to work! Feel quite refreshed this morning, just now need to try to sleep like that every night!!

DS1 back to school tomorrow and DS2 on Thursday, will be quite glad to get back to some sort of normality/routine - they don't feel the same way though!

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

    Elona,

Get well soon to your DD.:)
  • Good Morning All

Hester - roll on the carear change!
Elona - hope DD is comfortable.

Well back to school for DS today :j DD doesn't go back till next week and can't wait to get back in a normal routine. DS doesn't have to go in till 11 today so he is still in bed.

Todays plans - drop DS at school then go and get car washed. The farmer has stopped cutting the fields near us so will get all the dust washed off, I know it would be more MSE if I did it but I absolutely hate washing cars :o

Rest of the day will be office work and ironing. Really need to wash the kitchen windows and blinds too.

Think tonight will make a pasta bolognese bake for dinner.

Thats it for me, have a great day.x

    Morning Hester and all,

Well today is supposed to be my sons first day at college except that he doesnt have a course to go on since the college pulled the plug on his course yesterday.

I'm going with my son today to sort something out another course for him. He knows what he wants to do but its finding an alternative route to his career choice thats going to be difficult.

Looks like its going to be a beautiful day (and i might get to drag a rather unwilling 16 year old round the shops if i am fortunate).:rotfl:

Have a great day all :-)
