Chicken
Right, I am finally going to try to buy, cut up and cook a (small) whole chicken this weekend. I've been checking out the youtube videos on the cutting up part, and was hoping you nice people could help me with the cooking part. I'm hoping to use the chicken breasts to use as part of the cajun chicken salad I like for…

Cleaning a horrendously horrible oven
My oven's had something spilt and then cooked on - I've tried the "usual" oven cleaners and it gets a bit off but not all of it. Any ideas for what would work? Couple of restrictions ..... it needs to be available at Mr A's and doesn't require a lot of elbow grease ..... (recovering from op so can't bend/kneel down to give…

Damp musty smell in kitchen cupboards
Some of my kitchen cabinets, particularly the ones attached to the exterior walls, have stunk of a damp musty smell since we've moved in. Has anyone had this before and know of a way to get rid of the smell? I'm fed up of having to wash my plates again before using them.

Gluten free bread in breadmaker?
My adult DD has coeliac disease and would like to try to bake her own bread in a breadmaker. She has been given a secondhand Panasonic by a friend but it doesn't have the instruction/recipe book with it. She has a new baby so doesn't have time to make the bread by hand. She is also not confident about cooking so I am…

Suggestions for my leftovers please...
I've got half a pot of veggie stew left over from last night and it has really thinkened up nicely for tonight (from the macaroni probably). OH is stuck on the motorway so won't be in until about 18:30 so I've got a bit of extra time - anyone got any suggestions about how to make it easily into a baked meal instead of a…

Welcome to my world....
I was thinking (always dangerous) while I was out walking the dogs about the thread called "Spill the beans - what's the most embarassing thing you do to save money" and about one poster in particular asking WHY people do these things to save a few pennies. As I was walking along, I was thinking to myself that if I'd NOT…

Minimal weekly budget for a family of 5?
We are a family of 5 and are struggling to keep our budget at a reasonable level. I overspent on the last months shop and that made a large DD bounce so I had the fee and they tried to retake this which made another bounce and so forth and so forth. it was a £150 BT charge for moving home which is now at £170 as they added…

Thermostat temperature?
I have had to put the heating on this morning as I was so cold. However I know I will soon have to put it on the pre-set timer so that led me to think about what is a reasonable temperature to set the thermostat to. What temperature do you set yours at?

Meal plans WB 24th October
Not too bad this week, Wednesday went to pot because I had no leftover to feed us... so we had an 'if it' night... no one complained :) If you notice that there is a lot of Cauliflower Cheese on the menu, just smile and nod at the pregnant woman's current cravings  NB. I have Insulin Resistance and therefore eat a…

How to separate frozen pork steaks?
Went to the freezer this morning to get the pork out for dinner tonight and realised that OH, bless him, has just bunged the whole pack of 6 pork loin steaks in as it is. I would have separated them before freezing - we are only two so would never use more than two at once. I opened the pack and tried to separate them but…

Ghee?
Hi fellow MSEr's. In the name of trying to be frugal I have bought a 1kg tin of Ghee for £4.50....and now I'm not sure how to use it. I have an idea in my mind that it is like clarified butter and can be used as such (which is why I thought it was a bargain given the cost of butter!) :o Any ideas would be gratefully…

Take Away Secret gherkin question.
I've got the wrong gherkins but am wondering if this will make a big difference to the taste of the special sauce? I've got sweet and sour instead of dill flavoured vinegar :o Should I still try them? I'm not planning on putting sliced gherkins on anyones burgers because that won't go down well but want the special sauce…
