Thermostat temperature?

Options
I have had to put the heating on this morning as I was so cold. However I know I will soon have to put it on the pre-set timer so that led me to think about what is a reasonable temperature to set the thermostat to. What temperature do you set yours at?

17, up to 18.5 for bath times and first half hour after getting up

I did such battle with a friend at uni who used to whack it up to about 27/28 all the time - and walk around in t-shirts and bare feet! We lived in a terrible 70s ex council house with warm air heating and no double glazing or insulation of any description so the bills were horrendous.

Mine hovers around 19/20 and occasionally gets twisted up to 21 just for a short time. My mum and dad's is always at 23. I'd be freezing at 17!

Ours hovers between 19 and 21 though regardless of temp hubby will sit in a t-shirt while I usually have 3+ layers on!

16 degrees. It's enough to take the chill off without being overly warm.

  • mine is set to 18C but tbh it is in the wrong place! All my radiators have got thermostats on them which is good, but the main one is in the hall. So if the front door is open a lot then that reduces the temperature in the hall, and if I'm not on the ball, then all the radiators can be on & the house can be blazing hot, even though the hall is just warm...not sure if I've explained it very well...

    20. We both still have to huddle up in jumpers, but it seems to be OK at this. I've tried knocking it down to 19, but I just couldn't cope with it, I was so cold I felt sick.

  • I have set mine to 19.5. We live in a 1902 house and it can get very cold. Just deciding now whether it is better to keep the heating on all day or to come on twice a day to heat up. There is some more discussion on another thread about that! Mind we have Grandad coming to stay soon. He is 91 so the heating will be on all the time, plus probably the gas fire too!

When we put ours on it comes on twice a day and is set to 18. Sometimes we have it on all day instead (can't bear having it on at night) and then we turn it down to about 15/16. We have a big house but it's quite modern so relatively well insulated, and we like a cold house.

Daisiegg, my uni housemate used to have the heating on full whack, a bar heater going AND her window open (!). Have visited her since and her house is like an oven, she keeps her heating on full blast all night as well as all day.
