Thermostat temperature?

At the moment ours is set to 17 to come for an hour in the morning, 30 mins before I get up (Hubby waits until it's been on the hour before he'll venture out of bed) and an hour in the evening so we come home to a warm house. Once the nights and early mornings get colder, I usually set it for 19 and only on rare occasions (like if I'm frantically trying to dry washing or we have a big freeze) at 21.0

Nice, just three layers, we have a duvet on the sofa for my lovely missus.
I like it at 18, but we are in a flat with only windows on one wall. We are lucky.
Close doors and have thermostats (if you can) on each rad. Rads on only in rooms needed etc etc etc.
You wont ever find a perfect balance if more than one of you.0 -
Hi,
Does anyone work with radiator thermostats. We don't have a room stat, nor a boiler thermostat.
What passes for a stat on the boiler is simply a dial which goes high, similar to the one on the iron IYSWIM. Its always on the lowest apart from when its -5 for about 5 days or feels like it
The radiator stats go from 1-5 with no idication what the temperature actually is.
Does anyone else work with these?0 -
I like it at 20-22 ish but we generally get away with 19 while we are up, and 18 at night. When I first arrived in the UK from a very warm climate I struggled, and would have it on 22 or above - but each winter we spend here I am getting a little hardier. Maybe in another 10 years I won't need heating at all! Until a couple of days ago the heating was off and the temp inside was generally 16-17, which I found a bit chilly but bearable.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

Our boiler one is set to max, the rads are on 3 except the lounge and bathroom whcih are on 5. The main control is a programmeable thermostat in the hall that has different temps at various times during the day (think it has 5 time zones each day) - we added this into the existing system as it like yorus when we moved in whcih drove me nuts. it was a half hour job and you can get wireless ones now which are really quick to fitPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I think the most comfortable temperature depends on whether you want to pay for the heating and how many layers of clothing you're prepared to wear. Those who have their heating on the tropical setting just to loaf about in short-sleeves and no socks on obviously have far too much money imo.
I'm lucky if I can afford the heating on at all, so have become extremely hardy from necessity. If it's over 15 degrees it feels balmy to me.0 -

I don't have a room or boiler thermostat either. Each radiator is adjusted individually so places like the spare room are always on the 'frost control' setting unless there are visitors (well, visitors we like anyway) and I have thermometers on the walls in the sitting room and bedrooms. Sometimes I think I need to turn the rads up but when I check, the room temp is actally 18 degrees (which I'm usually happy with) so I leave it alone or get up and make a cup of tea or something.

ive also only got trv's on each radiator with no room stat. My boiler is set to 4 and the trv's in the front room are set to 3 which according to my thermometer is about 18c. I hardly have the upstairs rads on if i can help it. I would love a room stat just cant get on with the trv's!I will lose 2 stone by this summer!!!!!!0

It's on 18 at present and just coming on when needed.
After years of freezing, I persuaded OH to turn it to 20 for the couple of hours morning and evening that it is on. That way the house actually does get warm and , being very well insulated, stays warm.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
