Cleaning help - wall
Hi guys Hopefully you'll be able to help us! We're moving out of our rented house, and having moved my housemate's bed away from the wall, it looks like the colour in his bedding has rubbed off onto the wall.. black on magnolia! The paint around the house is generally very good at flaking off etc, so I'm reluctant to try…

Lasagne Pasta in Bread Machine?
I'm thinking about making a lasagne next week, and I thought rather than buying fresh pasta or using sheets I could probably make my own in the bread machine - it does have a pasta setting, does anyone know a recipe or could I just follow a basic pasta recipe and roll into thin sheets?

bread is really short?
Hi. I have a Panasonic breadmaker. It usually works great. For the last week or so, any loaf tends to have a rounded top but is really short, really compact. I've taken a photo. We've tried using different flours, different yeast and today tried adding 20 ml more water. We already add some white flour to the wholemeal loaf…

Is there a way of repairing a cigarette burn hole?
Hi all, I have received a dress with a smallish cigarette burn in it (though big enough to be noticable unfortunately)! It's looking unlikely that I will be able to return it so I figured I'd try asking the wise OSs for help :) The dress is cream with a print on it, and the hole is smack bang on the front of it with an ash…

I am STRUGGLING to stick with my grocery budget (240 a month for 2 adults, 2 toddlers and 2 cats, including nappies, toiletries and cleaning products). I don't have a car or much spare time at the min, only available…

A question for all those who use bubble bath/shower gel to re fill soap dispensers
When I move out into my own place I am planning on using a tip I picked up on here about using cheap bubble bath/shower gel to re fill my hand soap dispensers but I just have one question. Especially in the bathroom I like to have anti bacterial hand soap, so how do you guys who use bubble bath achieve this? Do you add in…

Making window quilts
Last year a new Canadian neighbour moved in nearby and one thing lead to another and she couldn't believe we all didn't have window quilts. Especially me as I have single glazed north facing windows at the front. I spent an afternoon [STRIKE]helping[/STRIKE] watching her make one. Bit like watching someone driving a car…

Old-Style Case Study / Action Points
Hello, I'm new to old-style, and am keen to read, learn and take action. I would love to be less wasteful. Following a discussion on DFW - FireWyrm highlighted how effective old-style thrift has been in recent advances towards becoming debt-free. I'm wondering if this thread might serve to allow some people to post case…

New curtains refusing to open/close
Just paid a small fortune to get new living room curtains made (my first pair ever, yay). Got home, counted out the spaces etc as you're supposed to - they're the type that hang on hooks - and got DH to hang them for me. Grumpily. Anyway they are on a track that is suppose to be opened and closed by a string at the side,…

Suggestions for after house move please
Hiii :) I've not been around for a while, but knew I'd come crawling back in the end! The last couple of years I've had a very low paid job with fantastic "perks" such as dirt cheap all-inclusive rent, use of company vehicle (so I'd only pay for fuel, not tax, insurance etc)....I've also been out in the country, so…
