Thermos lid won't budge
Hi, I am not sure what to do as my thermos lid is firmly stuck on. It is a plastic type screw lid and a metal base and I cant seem to budge it. The problem is that the water has gone cold and now there is a vacuum that seems unbreakable. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks very much

Sewing simple clothes
Hi folks, Thanks for all the tips and advice I pick up on here - the apple plait, and the chelsea buns are two of my favourite recipes. I am a patchwork sewer - fairly basic patterns (no curved lines!), but I've been doing it for a while. I've also made some simple dresses and trousers for my little niece. I'm now looking…

Dinner rescue help please!
OH kindly made "bean stew" last night, basically it's a mixture of adzuki and cannelini beans, with onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and the remainder of a bacon joint diced, plus whatever else happens to be around. I sometimes add a teaspoon of black treacle to it. OH knew this, so added a spoonful.... a tablespoon! It…

So long and thanks for all the fish recipes
OS has been vile this afternoon. I've been honoured to be a Board Guide here, but today has been the last straw. I'm not perfect, I make as many (probably more) mistakes than most posters, but I am human. I've been deeply hurt by some of the posts made today, and the time has come to post what the effect of spiteful and…

Use for Tepee brushes.
I was cleaning my steam iron the other day (with vinegar) and you know how all the holes get clogged up with limescale. Well it occurred to me that the yellow size teepe brushes from the dentists were just the right side to clean them out. It worked a treat. I can't think of any other uses though! Can you? :)

Gastronomy without the Economy!
There are several posters who would like to plan meals around high quality ingredients, without always going for the cheapest options :j What do you like to cook, when budget isn't top priority? I bought a beef box from a local farm - their steak is meltingly tender. A treat for us about 3 times a year. Penny. x…

Cat Poo!
Morning all, Well, the OH decided to spend the night over at mine for a change and left his old cat alone but in the kitchen. It seems the said "old" cat decided to do something approaching the lines of Mission Impossible throughout the night. The OH has gone home to find the cat has managed to open the doors to the…

Recipe ideas that don't use tomato based sauces?
Having a bit of a 'mare these days as hubby gets chronic stomach pains if he has anything with tomato or tomato sauce in the dishes. This include tins of stuff like baked beans or tinned spaghetti. So my die-hard recipes like lasagne, spag bol, any pasta dish are out of the picture. Can anyone suggest any alternatives to…
