leftover chicken soup?
At the weekend I got a free range chicken reduced so snapped it up. It wasn't huge, and DH has the biggest appetite ever! I managed to save some meat and made a stock with the carcass. We had a really tasty chicken and rice soup yesterday and there was a bit left over - about a portion. However, now it has sat in the…

Help in ideas for a funeral tea
It finally happened, my poor old mum died. I am now doing all the registering and organising. I must have made 20 phone calls this morning! My stepdad has decided he wants a funeral tea after the funeral. I have decided not to make cakes or quiches, but I would like some ideas of what to serve. I thought ham and wholegrain…

Does your OH support you in being OS?
Or do they think it's a bit excessive? I think at the moment my OH sees it as a bit of a fad. Be interested to hear (read!) your views.

Brown Bacon
I've just had my tesco shopping delivered and the bacon (16 rashers) is brown  , so much for their policy of picking what you would buy yourself!, I have rung to complain and had my money refunded . I have never brought brown bacon and my instinct is to throw it away but it seems such a wate. The use by date is…

Help!! I have just added up our food/drinks bill on our credit card for one month and it comes to £660 for 3 adults and two dogs. This includes £47 for son's food shop going back to University (he is not included in the three adults) and £54 for alcohol. This huge amount doesn't even include cash items such as milk from…

Removing iron-on name labels
Hi just wondering if anyone has any idea how to remove kids iron-on name labels from school clothes? My daughter has outgrown a load of uniform and I wanted to pass it onto my niece (don't think her little brother will take too kindly to having to wear a pinafore dress on his first day at school ;) ). Before I passed the…

Left over spag bog sauce in fridge
I was wondering how long I could keep a tomato and mince based pasta sauce in the fridge for. As tonight we will have spag bog and I will make an extra portion for husbands lunch tomorrow. And thought I would make extra sauce. As I saw that someone on the meal planner thread was having the sauce on jacket pots. Would that…

Does anyone here use fruit and veg wholesale markets?
I was thinking of trying our large wholesale fruit & veg market (my local one is Glasgow) for a sack of potatoes, box of apples / bananas / veg to bulk freeze etc, but wondered if the savings would be worth it. Does anyone here shop this way? Any tips?

Do you mend or throw away?
I was mending a vase and my DIL said "Why don't you buy a new one?" Thinking about it, it cost more for the superglue than for a new glass vase from M & S. (selling at £3.00.) Is it economical to keep mending things?

The chinese supermarket and why I love it so...
Splashed the cash earlier and bought myself a new Ken Hom wok, so thought I'd swing by the Chinese supermarket and grab some provisions for a cheeky wee stir fry. Is is quite shocking when you compare the price of basics (e.g. good quality rice) in there to even the cheapest supermarket brands...it is SO cheap. 10kg bags…

How to clean sooty marks from outside window ledges?
I live in an old coal mining area where some houses still use coal fires. The problem is that the soot particles float about and stain the upvc window ledges. I've tried all sorts of cleaning products, but there's probable an old fashioned method that will work as none of the modern stuff has. Any Kim & Aggie's out there?
