Or do they think it's a bit excessive?
I think at the moment my OH sees it as a bit of a fad.

My BF thinks its a bit of a passing phase and will not get on board at all, but then he says dinner was lovley tonight, and It is something homemade and cheap and I think it is worth carrying on. I want to do it for myself and if it benefits my BF then thats a plusOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 086Proud to be dealing with my debts !Total Debt: Was £6368.84  now £945.36Sealed Pot Challenge 049 Aim £5000

OH thinks it's a bit excessive too but he's the one spending all the money so I've told him it's (partly) as a result of that! Also i've time on my hands so it stops me getting bored! OH is a bit of an OS chap himself.....normally he's in charge of the kitchen being a far better cook than me .....hates waste and tries to make sure leftovers get used up rather than chuck them away. Great one for recycling too...............better than me really.............lol
He does give a bit of a wry smile when I tell him about the christmas and birthday hampers I'm doing to cut down on costs.........been trying to de-clutter and he leaves that to me as well...........he's as big a hoarder as I am.
Oh, forgot to mention...........he also grows as much veg and herbs as he can but having not much actual garden he does it from tubs. Still get a decent crop though and he gets a lot of pleasure from it.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

My OH is converted! Be strong - you will wear them down in the end!! OH now tuts about supermarket prices:- 'look at that price you could make that yourself for pence'!!:rotfl:100% MFW :j0

My OH was a bit sceptical for a while, but I am adding a couple of hundred quid to the holiday fund most months from savings made following the grocery challenge and making almost everything from scratch so I think he is coming around.
It's a shame he can't get excited when I show him all the whoopsies or special offers I have bought though.:rotfl:
It's only a game

My DH is not OS at all - I seem to do it all!!! He's a bit of a snob and won't let me buy some value products, but I have found ways round most of his favourite brands
Mostly, I'm os in the kitchen and I have to confess it's a been a big hit with DH. When he compliments a meal, I then take great pride in telling him what it cost and he never believes me that it's so little!
This weekend he moaned when I told him to stop picking at the roast chiken - but took it all back when I presented him with a filling and tasty soup with all the leftovers - followed by his favourite crumble. And it was all made from leftovers from another meal (so technically didn't cost anything).
Other areas haven't been quite so successful - such as clothing, washing, toilettries - but I'm getting there - just slowlyr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
It's taking a while, but I'm getting there with OH lol - I sent him shopping this weekend and I was delighted when he came home complaining about the cost of everything, suggesting that we should buy stuff in bulk when it's cheap (previously he's always huffed and puffed at me buying anything more than one of anything), and asking me to make a batch of hob-nobs because they're 'so much nicer than anything I saw in the shop'
I'm getting there

I get loads of support from DH
He now looks closer at prices and at the value range. He loves all the homemade goodies that come from the kitchen and he now even cooks from scratch himself.
Not converted him off his fave coffee yet but will get there.

My OH is very money-saving-expert in many ways and really watches the pennies, but just doesn't know his way around the kitchen - so I've pretty much taken over in that area....
it's funny but any arguments seem to go in another direction - for example one time I put some mustard in the shopping basket. I like to put it in salad dressings and can really taste it (so get a nice one - it also lasts a long time). He couldn't understand the need for mustard in the first place, and then why we couldn't get a value brand. (Of course he eats the salads I make and really likes them!)
I try to save as much money as possible with food shopping, and know when value brands will do the job for me (eg. tins of toms) - it's just that sometimes I like to get the odd quality ingredient, and OH is too much of a moneysaving non-foodie to see the point of it!0
