.......It's a shame he can't get excited when I show him all the whoopsies or special offers I have bought though.:rotfl:

Don't show him them then, lol! Remove the yellow labels before freezing where necessary. My OH thinks I'm ever-so generous when I come home with un-dyed smoked haddock (or the Extra Special Fishcakes with prawns and pancetta or Manx Kippers) for him as a treat!

Certainly not going to tell him that they cost nowhere near the full amount - if I did that he'd be as wise as ME - God forbid  !!!

My OH is quite happy to go along with OS. He doesnt do any of the shopping or cooking so i suppose it's not much of a wrench is it!! I prefer to do it myself anyway ;)

He has commented more often than not each night that dinner is fab, he is loving all the home cooked food whereas before i would maybe have half pre-packaged and half made from scratch. Now it is all made from scratch. Including the muffins, scones and biscuits etc! :D

It made his day one lunch time when he had HM left over meatballs & spagetti to take to work, when he re-heated it in the microwave all his work mates came through to see what smelt so good! He was grinning from ear to ear telling me when he got home :D

i love money saving but other half snubbs most value brands and refuses to count the pennies really :(
the shopping budget is left up to me to deal with, he puts it there and i erm spend it:p

im awful though, il bulk buy, buy things i dont need and over fill my cupboards:(
whenever i go shopping i never spend less than 20 quid. wth is wrong with me
:cool:minds is willing , soul remains, this woman cannot be saved

  • My OH is more OS than me, too... I haven't had a ready meal since we moved in together and I eat so much better now!!
  • With some things he is but with others he just shakes his head and thinks i'm off my rocker lol :rotfl:

He loves his home-cooked meals and marvels at the things i can make when theres 'nothing in', also brags to his mates about how clever i am :A but he doesn't understand about putting on a jumper when its cold rather than the heating, trying to save on water and leccy, recycling, starting Xmas shopping in Jan, hunting around for the best bargains, buying in bulk etc

And his reaction when i said i wanted to use cloth nappies for this baby - sheer horror! :rotfl: He thinks its the most disgusting thing he's ever heard and 'surely it cant be hygenic' and he isn't going anywhere near them apparantly  He doesn't seem to get about BF and making baby food either, maybe because hes only ever seen the women in his family bottlefeed and use jars and disposables

We have converted our loft bedroom into a mini shop,on the left we have all the 75% boots gifts paid for with boots points. We have enough gifts for birthdays and christmas this year, when my OH realised how much money I saved it has converted him to my way of thinking. On the right its like going to the supermarket. We have lots of pasta, rice that was on bogof, sugar, sauces ect, these are purchased when I see a good offer, and with the way food prices are going up I am glad we have our supplies.

I am of the generation where OS was and is a way of life. Over the years my OH has struggled with some areas of my "frugalness". I told him that as it didn't hurt him and as I was happy to do it just to turn a blind eye to things like the kitchen festooned with drying freezer bags etc etc.
Fast forward down the years and he admits that it was thanks to my "strange money saving ways" that he was able to retire four years early and for us to enjoy a comfortable early retirement.

My dh started first sort of. He was a mature student, and quickly realised that he would get more food and better quality if he cooked from scratch.

He still fondly tells me of the time when 1 carrot didn't register on the scales in the supermarket, so he used to get them free:rotfl:

I was taught to cook by my nan, so it hasn't needed much encouragement for me to get back into home cooking from scratch. Dh takes his turn making the main meals too (he makes great curries).

It was also dh who showed me the advantages of having a slow cooker when I was a bit dubious about it.

My OH listens to some things I say and do with disinterest, but my cooking from scratch with fresh veggies has done his IBS a world of good since he's moved out from his Dads (lot of processed pies and meals). He brags about the white vinegar in the washing up liquid (more cause it cuts through grease better than moneysaving ;) ) and surprisingly is even up with making mince etc go further by bulking out with lentils and soya!!! He likes cooking too when he's not too tired and loves making things likes curries and chillie from scratch with fresh ingredients instead of half of it coming out of a jar!

    Catt xx
