Does your OH support you in being OS?

My OH thought I was slighty dotty when I first started but is completely converted now.2 years ago we had no money left over and no treats at all.I hit the ground running after finding MSE ,changed my life and my attitudes.Turning OS was fun and the family say they eat like kings.Nearly everything is yellow labelled and OH haunts the reduced sections. We have savings now and we're off on a £3k holiday courtesy of Mr T.Now Mr russetred has joined and is currently lurking in the greenfingered forum.Yeah fresh cheap veggies too!:D"Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0

My DH loves all my moneysaving and supports me all the way. He always asks how much dinner has cost that night, then boasts about it to others! If dinner is 'free' because it's all made from leftovers, he's ecstatic! He is most impressed by how I've got the cost of bread down. Using my BM I can produce a loaf of organic half-white half-wholemeal bread for 16p a loaf AND he says it's the best bread he's ever tasted! Incidentally, my BM only cost £7 from a charity shop - it had never been used and is one of the best bargains I have ever found. I also make all our cakes - he recently bought some Cadbury's Mini-Rolls and was disgusted at the cost and the fact that they were not in the least bit filling and full of ingredients we'd never have in the house.
He also likes the fact that I have hardly any brand name cleaning products in the house and, also, that I make sure every bottle of shampoo, shower gel, etc. is used up before I buy new - I used to have bottles all over the bathroom, usually half empty, but now it looks clutter free and is much easier to keep clean and tidy.
I have always been money-conscious but, since finding this brilliant site, I have got it down to fine art and try and be as money-saving as I can. I would hate it if my DH didn't support me - it must be like banging your head against a brick wall.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

My DH is a work in progress.:rotfl:
He no longer rolls his eyes when I tell him how much I have saved but he does make sarcastic comments when I am stripping the meat off the chicken carcass to get an extra 2 portions for the freezer. Funny he never moans about the meals that that extra meat makes.0 -
my OH is happy for me to do it.....He loves the bread from the Panny and says he couldn`t go back to shop bought:j .
When I first met him 18 months ago tho he wasn`t OS in the slightest.
he never gave money a thought and was very brand specific.
i was a newly divorced single mum and was having to be very old style and watch every penny:rolleyes:
OH soon realised that value and own label stuff was really ok.
he also had a few debts from moving his business up here to be with me and he has now paid loads of it off due to us being OS and money saving....so he knows it makes more sense;)
He still doesnt get as excited as me about a bargain but then I am a bit OTT:o0 -
Mine is very good, but does have strange blind spots. He'll cope and compliment pretty much everything I cook and he's not a fan of processed foods anymore. He will, however, try to buy branded washing liquids/soap powder, toilet cleaner etc and will then insist on using at least the suggested amount of it rather than try to reduce it a bit. I get the strangest conversations - he's responsible for doing the washing - and I get "shall I put 100ml in or 75?" I cry back "60" and he puts in 100. Often having 'spilt' some so it has to go in.
Honestly, he has a propensity for eczema and the soap irritates him but he just can't stop himself!
Otherwise he recognises the benefit of it though.:T
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
My OH is more oldstyle than me really - he makes me feel guilty.
He tells me off for suggesting he should use anything other than stardrops. Spent all sunday digging our new allotment with my dad so he can grow us veg (and we're obviously trying to decide what veg are most expensive so we can grow these and save the most money possible).
He bakes bread, something which I couldn't be bothered to do without a breadmaker and makes everything we eat from scratch.
For a 'passing your phd' present, people in his lab even bought him a potato ricer - and he thinks it is the most amazing thing ever. Though he does get approximately equal excitement from the mincer, and his new cast iron casserole pot.0 -
My dh loves our new os ways...:j I was always thrifty in comparison to him and never brand orientated. But since joining mse I have managed to really get into it..I am really proud that I have halved our food budget and hopefully once we have caught up with everything we will have some money left for family stuff, holiday fund etc. If I had continued shopping like I was we wouldnt be able to consider our camping trip this year:rolleyes: . At the end of each month every penny we had was gone. He was resistant at first because he though I was trying to tell him what he could spend his own money on. But I have always done the budget for us and he had no idea how expensive our household living costs had esculated:eek: . Once we sat down and I showed him the figures and what we could have as a result of o/s he agreed. I think he is really proud of taking home cooked food for lunch at work and tells anyone who asks what a good cook I am...which of course makes me proud too. I just wish I /we had done it years ago:D .Being at home and os is the best thing ever!:DJAN GC- £155.77 out of £200
FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

I just asked DH what he thought the lentil soup I made cost for the whole slow cooker full ( about 4 or 5 litres).
He guessed about £3!
His face was a picture when I told him it cost under a pound!
He is being very good about driving me to Lidl when I need to stock up on food.
Now if I could only cure him of his obsession with Cillit Bang!
Might wait till the spray is empty then refill with Stardrops solution but not tell him."This site is addictive!"
