Microwave Challenge
Ok, every night I have approx 40 children to cater a small tea for. During the summer it's not so bad as I can do salads etc. BUT now with it being cold they want hot things and I only have a microwave available to me. They really like pasta but it came out really stodgy today when I tried it. I'd like to do it again, but…

not allowed to sell fresh yeast!
I've just been into a local supermarket, and I asked at the bakery if I could purchase some fresh yeast, the reply I got was "No" we are not allowed to sell it to customers. So I phone head office, and yup it's true, they are not allowed to sell it due to health and safety! Now I am sure I read somewhere that a…

Last year's mulled wine?
We have a bottle of Sainsbury's Mulled Wine that got left over from last year -put it away assuming that it would be fine, but I've just looked at it and it says "It is recommended that this product be used within 3 months of purchase"!!!! It's 10% so I thought the alcohol content would keep it okay? Really not sure…

Too many Bananas and Apples
Hi in a moment of madness I bought a scoop of bananas and a scoop of apples (eating) off the market. I already had a few left at home and its become apparent that there's no way either me or the kids are going to eat them all. Is there anything I can do with them? I have made a banana cake loaf thing before and the kids…

Greek Lamb Bake
I found this recipe on here after one kind poster gave it to me, but I made piles too much! It didn't fit in one dish, so we only ate one and there is still the other one in the oven that I intend to have for tomorrow's dinner. Is it simply a case of reheating it in the oven? If so, for how long? It's a minced lamb based…

Turkey help
I have a few turkey dilemmas/queries: What should I get? - a whole turkey, or a predone stuffed turkey breast roll (bearing in mind the only time I'm not working over the festive season is Xmas day itself) Though I'd be grateful for suggestions of where to buy, most posters here are UK based and it'd be a bit dear to post…

3 days per month zero food spend
It's just a thought - but might encourage thrift, more careful buying and less waste of food. I've heard it said that the country simply throws away astonishing amounts of leftovers and non-used food items/ingredients - and not just from restaurants. I know very well I've been guilty of this myself. I've had the idea to…
