What can I make with this?

Hello There,

Cleaning out my cupboards before I go on a big shop, and would love some ideas as to what I can make with the following:

Tin of chick peas
Tin of canellini beans
Tin of mixed pulses

It would only feed me as DH & DS's wont touch this stuff, also, if the leftovers can be frozen then that would be great.

  • You could make a veggie chilli or curry? Do you have tinned toms and chilli/curry powder:confused:

  • Veggie chilli is also what comes to mind, as it would also freeze very well.

Also (presuming beans are cooked already as they're tinned) you could just put them cold with tinned tuna, finely chopped onions, dressing - for a tuna/bean salad.

A simple bean salad (albeit a heck of a lot of it - leave the bedroom window open and sew weights onto each corner of the duvet!) immediately springs to mind.

  • Hi, there! I made this baked bean recipe for Guy Fawkes night. It was treated with great scepticism, but was absolutely delicious with hotdogs and baked potatoes. I'm sure that your cannelini beans and mixed beans would be good in it - I used pinto beans as that was what I had.

You could make some kind of Houmous with it if you have garlic and lemon juice?
  • Try this older thread - canelini beans.

Hang on while I find one for chick peas..........here you go.

  • I haven't cooked it for years now but I used to use a mixture of tinned pulses with tomato and spices as a veggie lasagne filling though I often chucked in a tin of pease pudding as well. Sounds disgusting but tasted good. I stopped doing it because of the effect of all the beans!
  • Second the other ideas but for a change one or all of them could make a bean mash. Just mash (as if potato) with butter or olive oil (my preference is the oil in this case) and serve as mash in place of potato. Obviously use your judement as to what it will go with.

It's even better, if it's to your taste, if you include some roasted garlic in the mash.

I'd mash up the beans and make patties of some kind. Just add herbs and spices, egg to bind & flour & roll in breadcrumbs.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)
