OS Daily 04/12/2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 4th December 2007. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning all fellow OSers :D

I have been to bed honest, but sleep is yet again eluding me. A problem which I fear is turning in to a habit - a major problem with having to get organized at 5.30am for work 4 days of the week.

Life at Chez Smoky has been hectic and also very draining lately, OH cannot go for surgery yet as his psorrhiosis (sp) has run out of control -stress- and his sugar levels are way out -stress- and he has to have 3 teeth removed.

The GP has got him an appt. for Wednesday with a skin specialist (funny how they can move when needed! ;) ) as the flare up has to be controlled, MRI are viewing it as a possible infection source.

We have come to a full stop with any more moves with the decorating as OH simply can not do it anymore and I can't do it as he tends to muck in and try to take over and ends up breathless and dizzy. Still it is only our bedroom left to do and I can get on with that after his op.

OS wise - The tumble dryer is back in action as the weather hasn't been good. Batch cooking is going great as I am filling the freezer for my sis for when she looks after 2 of our children. MRI have a policy of no children under 7 so our nephew has very kindly offered to look after the eldest when OH goes in for the op and he is really looking forward to his fishing holiday (I think the week off school is helping there.) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Stress levels are pretty high nonetheless as OH is convinved that he isn't going to survive the op and we have had some very emotional talks over the last few weeks. He has said that if he had no resposibilities he would not have the op because he is so scared and would have whittled his days away in a bar at a beach somewhere. He also is not in a good place emotionally for me and the kids and tbh, well things could be easier. He has refused counselling and so we muddle through. I can't even begin to know what he is feeling and I am being very patient but his shouting at the kids for no reason continuously (sp) is becoming a very real problem.

I haven't been keeping up with you all lately so -

MrCountryWhiskersBH-vi.jpg

to all of you that need one.

Speak to you all soon,

Smoky.

Morning Smoky, morning everyone who follows

Oh dear Smoky, your poor OH. He does sound very stressed and upset - of course he is, with such an important operation (hopefully) looming. I know he has refused counselling, but would he entertain the thought of relaxation exercises, meditation or yoga or anything similar? I've a feeling the answer would be no - well, I guess he'll deal with it all in his own way, I just hope that they can sort out his sugar levels and skin problems promptly and so get the major landmark out of the way. It'll only get better once that is done. In the meantime I'm sending you lots of strength generating thoughts to get you all through this time.

This morning I have my dental appointment - this is to replace the appointment that I had to miss because the twerps didn't let me know they had changed address. It's at 9.00am (they really don't like me, I can tell!!) and it's right on the other side of town so I'll have to have an early start to beat the traffic. I'm dreading the dentist - I had about 12 years during which I had one single filling...then for some reason all that changed and I broke four teeth, had one removed, had root canal work x 2, and had some fillings replaced...I hope they don't find anything wrong today, I cannot stand the drill and the other things they use.

I need to take my little kitty madam Mitzi back to the vet this morning. She was spayed 11 days ago, and had her stitches out last night, however the wound is open again now. So, rather than just leave it I think she needs more stitches. Poor little thing absolutely hates the car journey and cries all the way.

Wo*k at the moment is crazy bonkers busy. The place goes mad at Christmas as the store's catchment area stretches about 60 miles south and encompasses north Dublin. People drive all that way as it's so much cheaper for drink, chocolate, presents etc. Yesterday a lot of people complained that they had to queue for nearly an hour just to get into the car park:eek::eek::eek: though that reflects the pathetically bad traffic lights system in town too, as well as volume of traffic. The net result is a lot of irritated customers. Ooo I love my job...NOT!

Pink, sorry to hear Adam had a bad turn - but also glad to hear that it has been dealt with and he's home again, and OK. It has been a challenging year for you all in your house - hang on in there, it'll get better in 2008. (BTW I think Simon is someone our old Ninny met on the wrong bus and who took all her spare lettuces and gave her a pattern for dishcloths).

JackieO, lovely to hear from you. Your grandchildren obviously adore you!

Will love you and leave you now, and try to get some more sleep.

    Bye

    Snowy

Morning SMOKY & SNOWY and all who follow.

SMOKY - I'm sending masses of huge (((hugs))) to your OH, you and your family. I can't imagine what you all are going through and hope that OH can get the operation out of the way asap. I can understand his stress and anxiety but it must be exceptionally hard for you, in particular, trying to hold it all together for the family. I'm glad your sister is able to help with the children. I'm thinking of you.

SNOWY - teeth are like that. I've been a dental nurse and this happens to loads of people - they can go years without needing treatment and then have a spell with problem after problem. My OH is having a year like that. I hope you get all the problems out of the way soon.

Well, I had a bad night's sleep - after my cold, I had a rotten cough and it returns every now and again just to keep me awake and last night, as soon as I got into bed, I knew it would be one of those nights. My spare bed is covered in Christmas presents in various stages of wrapping so I took a spare quilt downstairs and slept on the sofa. DH was so tired last night and has to get up early for work so I didn't want to keep him awake with my coughing. It's not even a real cough - just an irritating 'tickle' in the throat as soon as I lie down. Anyway, I have loads I want to get done today but I know I won't have the energy - I'll try and have a doze before DGS comes round for dinner after school.

Well, I think I'll have another cuppa and will drop in again a bit later. (((Hugs))) to all who are in need.

    Morning Chums ,
rotten night again, but thank goodness I have my computer to keep me company in the wee small hours. Site was playing up a bit this morning, or it could be my computer I suppose. Thanks button seems to be a bit hit and miss at the moment .
I have my friend coming to visit me today ,its her birthday, so I have to whizz over to the shops before 9.00.a.m. to get her some cream cakes to take with us to craft class this afternoon. We are doing Black on White cards to day so I'm quite looking forward to that.:j
My dripping cold seems to have returned again,I know it's because my immunity is low with the treatment ,but I was so hoping it had gone:eek: Oh well thank goodness for ultra balm tissues.
I made a sheperds pie last night for lunch today, and I have a nice fresh pineapple for pudding. I may make some thick gloopy custard to go with it ,I feel in need of some comfort food today.
Just looked out of the window and its not a very nice morning, still dark and wet'n'windy.

Eldest DD popped in last night and had a shufti and my dekkies, she was impressed .She also spotted some of my Christmas cards that I had made and said ,like her sister 'Oh they're nice Mum can I have some?' .So tommorow its back to making some more again. It would be easier if they just said can you make me X amount and I would do them. Its a bit like when you have been baking and they come in and swipe the jam tarts or sausage rolls .Kids !! and mine are middle aged as well. They never grow up, only older bless them.;)
Well time to get a wriggle on and tidy up the sitting room, I've been sorting out my beloved books and trying to see which ones I can spare for the local charity shop.I am such a hoarder when it comes to books .My pal will help me today I know, as she is very minimalistic in her life and always seems to sort all my clutter out for me .I thought I would suprise her with a bag of books to go over to the shop, she says she think I go and buy them back after she has gone!! as if
<<hugs>> to those who need one and a big :D to the rest of you .Have a good day what ever you do
  • Morning Smokey, Snowey, Mioliere & all who follow
Big Hugs to Smokey, you had my sympathy, my hubby suffers from depression caused by PTSD, he also refused counciling 15 years ago & so is still suffering. I hope all goes well for you & your family.
Fingers crossed for you Snowey, I hate the dentist too.
Bad nights sleep here, the lodger was doing her washing at 3 & the back door slammed in the wind, then she had a shower at 4 & dropped a glass bottle on the tiled floor, I thought a bomb had dropped, still she managed not to cut herself, so thats good.
Off to work soon, Mr T is delivering between 4 & 6 & the bill is about £127, which isn't bad as it will last 3 months.
Hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning

Smoky, your poor husband, and poor you :A If he won't have counselling, is there anything on the Internet you could find for him to read. It sounds as though he is terrified of this op, and maybe there are some websites with others experiences, hope you manage to calm him down a bit

JackieO, it's not your computer, I think the gremlins are in the site again
today. Have you thought about putting your books on readitswapit - you could then get books in exchange for them. Pm me if you need more details.

Really dark this morning, but look on the bright side, in a couple of weeks, it will start getting lighter again.

Started to sort my Christmas presents yesterday, and I think a trip to the nearest town is called for - I hate Christmas shopping :o

Well DW on already, and WM will be on later, so looks like a day of washing and ironing.

Have a good day and :grouphug: to all the ones with colds etc x

SMOKEY Hugs to you and yours, it must be very difficult.

SNOWY I hate the dentist too but mine is so nice and good at his job I don't mind going to see him.

DLB Happy birthday to your DD:bdaycake: , hope your Ds feels better soon.

Well I quite happily sent DS back to school yesterday, only to get a phone call to pick him up, as he'd been sick again. Took him to the doctor who was very grumpy, (I don't know why they get paid enough!). He assured me it's a virus, so no school again today. Will just plod on today and see what I can do as I'm still feeling like cxxp.

    Hugs to all :A xxxx

    Morning All

Managed to stay in bed until 6.20 and then the site was (and still is) playing up. I think the Techies must be pulling their hair out by now. Trouble is the Forums just get more and more popular.

Smokey (Big Hugs) to you too, you sound like you need them and I am sure you are as scared as your DH. Men! as I said a few days ago, sometime you cannot help them as they don't want to help themselves. Luckily your family is pitching in to help with the kids.

((Snowy)) at the dentists and work (why do these people want to come and buy cheaper at your shop I don't know!!);)

Happy Anniversary :j:jGranny & Grandpa Broon
Happy Birthday Miss dlb  (this is cola!):rotfl:

Amie - where are you hiding??

Sorry Hester - but your lodger would have to go - she's taking the mick! I think a set of ground rules with a warning of eviction if not adherred to is called for.

Hope you get rid of the sniffles to Kathy and Jackie. Hope the knee is improving daily Pam.

Pipkin - re the christmas greetings - you may want to use one on this site www.recyclenow.com

Off to Wednesbury today to collect hob & extractor from Trading-post. CS been brill so far and an 0800 number, so let's see if the collection keeps it up Will give you a wave dlb & c-c as I pass on the motorway. Big savings but £20 delivery so decided I prefer to spend it on a day out!
