OS Daily for Monday 3rd December 2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 3rd December 2007. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and
motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning everyone. I haven't been on here since Friday afternoon - ever since my sister and her DH arrived for the weekend; we didn't stop talking until they left yesterday afternoon! My two DS's turned up with their families so it has been a very sociable weekend for all of us. I did miss coming on here, although I showed my sister what MSE and, in particular, what 'my' particular thread is all about; she gets very down due to various illnesses and I think she would really benefit from joining us all on here. I've been trying to encourage her for ages and, now that she has actually seen how it works, I really hope she'll be with us soon. She has osteoarthritis, fybromyalgia and other conditions which really restrict her life although, this weekend, she looked better than I have seen her for ages because the Drs have upped her pain patches and they have really helped. SIS - if you're lurking, PLEASE come and join us - it will be one of the best things you have ever done!

It has been a lovely, but hectic, weekend and DH and I have really enjoyed it; we had loads we had intended to do but DH said that just having them around and just relaxing with them has done us both good. I did 'one-pot' meals for Friday and Saturday, and a roast yesterday so the catering was not too challenging. On Saturday, we went wandering round some charity shops - the weather was wet and windy but everything felt Christmassy and we all enjoyed it. My sister spotted some lovely gift boxes in a craft shop that were very expensive but I was able to show her loads of sites on the net where she can download things like that for free. We llooked through them all and she chose the ones she liked the look of and I emailed the links to her, so she'll be able to look at them all when she gets home. She can actually see now just how useful the internet can be.

Anyway, I want to thank MRS MIX and HARIBO for telling me about the 'light' - I felt a bit daft when you both explained it, wondering why I hadn't noticed it, but thanks to you both.

CHAMELEON, CRAZY - thanks for the tip about avoiding SKY repair plan charges! Oh, and CRAZY, I was so sorry to hear about your friend. (((hugs))) to her family.

KYLE - one of the best things I ever did was to learn to drive - the feeling of independence it gives me still amazes me and I still sometimes smile to myself when I start the car. I thoroughly recommend it!

I have quickly skimmed through the posts I have missed and send (((hugs))) to all who are still poorly and, ROZ, I hope your boss did pay your wages in time and that he has realised that honouring his obligation to payday DOES matter. It will be a tiresome chore, but, to be on the safe side in the future, I would move some of your direct debits further into the month - once I had done this (my last boss was exactly the same as yours) I stopped panicking every month as it got closer to payday. I also made him set a reminder on his mobile two days before he needed to pay the wages, so he had no excuse to forget! Good luck with the prospects of promotion there - it's obviously worth staying there, as long as you can sort the wages situation out!

Well, off to have another cuppa and get DH's packed lunch organised. Will see you all later.

  • Good morning Moliere and everyone else who will post today. I'm glad you enjoyed having your visitors Moliere.

I haven't posted here for ages because we've been so busy with one thing and another. My sister has been diagnosed with Lupus which has been very difficult for everyone though from what I can tell you can lead a pretty normal life with it and her doctor says that having a positive attitude will really help her. She is a very cheery soul and it takes alot to depress her. She has 2 lovely little boys and I've been looking after them alot and they are good company for my daughters.

Sorry I don't really know what's happening with everyone but I will try to keep up from now on.

I'm not very organised for Christmas yet and we are having the whole family on the day so I'll be busy... I do have most of "Santa's" presents bought though.
Today I am meeting a friend from church in town for coffee and the afternoon will be taken up with baking and ironing. Not very exciting but that's life I suppose!

    Bye for now

    PTT.

    Good morning everyone,

I caught up with house cleaning, ironing & other bits and pieces today. XDIL & DGS arrived around 10am and left just before lunch. DGS came back about 3pm and his father took him home just before after he'd finished work. I made Churchmouse's salmon quiche for tea tonight. I'll have to report the verdict later. :D

I'm off to spend the day with my DSis tomorrow. We meet up at a shopping centre and I hope to do some Xmas shopping. I've got my list written out. I finished her dishcloth, and wrapped it up with her relish & other little bits. It will so nice to sit down and gossip. I hope XDIL ears don't burn. :D

Moiliere Your weekend sounded just the right tonic. Here's hoping that your sister will join up and enjoy the site like we do.
Tippytoes That makes two of us not being very organised this year. ;) Sorry to hear about your sister's diagnosis. I don't know a lot about it, but a lady I played tennis with had it. She was quite bad at times.
Kyle My MIL was the same. My mother was fab too just like yours. Twink will more than make up for it. She's not a bad old stick you know. :D
    Mrs Mix

Well I'm off to water the garden and take Benny for a walk. He's put on weight again. DGS was giving him all his cast offs I suspect. Will pop back later. Have a lovely day & ((hugs)) to those poorly. Byeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Morning All

    Freezing here this morning.

I didn't go out on Saturday night in the end. I just couldn't face it. So had a nice (cheap) night in. Went to a memorial service yesterday where a special Christmas tree for lost loved ones was lit. Couldn't believe it to hear yobs had vandalised it.

Got to keep going until Friday before I get the weekend off - first day off in two weeks.

Taking my friend to the CAB later - she's having problems at home. Also need to phone the solicitor to find out about the flat. Must pay for the searches soon - need to locate the new cheque book first though.

Mum made the dundee cake ready for Christmas yesterday and the kitchen's coming on thankfully. At least we can use the oven and hob for cooking again now and no longer have to wash up in the bathroom.

    Hope everyone's ok

Hope all is well and hugs to those who are not. Didn't manage to post yesterday as MSE had problems.

DS is feeling much better although still not eating very well. I feel like cxxp instead but I don't think it's D & V just another cold:( . Hopefully we'll all be fit and well for Sunday when we fly out to Lapland for three days:j . It's cost us a fortune but well worth it to go and see Santa and all that snow.

Have to go food shopping today and study. Also one of the Doctors is leaving work today so I might pop in to say goodbye. Trying to run the freezer down as much as I can at the moment so I can defrost it and get the Christmas food in. Also need to write my Christmas cards. :rudolf:

Have a good day everyone :A

    Good Morning Earlybirds... :hello:

Well I managed a couple of hours sleep. :j (Insert long whingy story about how I managed to shake a 3 day headache by sleeping on and off all weekend and now my pattern's all over the place.):o  Managed to pass the headache down the phone line to Pink so I hope you feel better now too. ;)
Christmas decs went up last night and the house looks fab. The girls are really excited and so am I! :j  :o
As I'm up early I'll get a wash on and start the BM. May even treat myself to an early morning bath. ;)
After I drop the kids off at the bus I'll nip home and make the beds and tidy the kitchen before a 9.30 meeting at the school to discuss the Nativity. Then off to the office to work until 3ish.

Have a chicken out of the freezer for tonight and have raided the veg basket for some tired looking carrots, parsnips and spuds. I really need to run down the freezer this week to make room for Christmas stuff.

Aussie...enjoy your day out tommorrow with your Sis. Is she much much older than you like mine is? ;):D
Moliere...I hope your sister joins in with us.
princess...Sorry to hear about your sister's illness.
(I feel like singing "Sisters are doing it for themselves" now.) :D
CrazyChik.. That's tragic news about your friend.
Kyle....Nip down to my neck of the woods and I'll give you driving lessons. ;) I've only had a couple of accidents and only one of those was serious enough to warrant an ambulance and a neck brace. :D:o;)

    Toodlepip. :D

    Morning All!
Had a crap night. Watched Cranford, turned the light off at 10pm. Woke at 3.15am, still awake at 4, made tea, watched "Quer eye for the straight guy"! came back to bed at 5, woke again at 6. Got to work today as well.
Mum's not good, she was rotten yesterday. I hate this disease, and what it's doing to her, and so fast. a few weeks ago we were talking about my cousins wedding in July, now I just want her to be here for Christmas and New Year.

Sorry guys, don't want to make anyone depressed, but I feel so alone and helpless at the moment.

Having porridge this morning, maybe that'll make me feel better.:T

Love and (((((((HUGS))))))))))) to everyone who needs it.

    Enjoy your day!

    Morning.
Hugs to crazy and anyone else with bad news or whos uder the weather. ((()))
Kyle, i didnt learn to drive until i was 25 (5 yrs ago now) whilst i was pregnant with dd, it is the most amazing thing iv done, it made life so much easier, long gone are the days of walking 3 kids to school in pouring rain and carrying shopping home hung over the pushchair!!! I dont think i would have coped with 4 kids without one, plus the boys wouldnt have been able to take up footy as i wouldnt have been able to get them there. Go for it kyle!!!

Ds1 is ill, so no school for him today although he can finish of his homework projects if he feels up to it, plus that will keep me off the computer!! Have lots to do, wrap up dd birthday gifts for tommorow, put the empty decoration boxes in loft out of way until new year, piles of washing and ironing to be done, and a shep pie to make for tea.
    Have agood day everyone

  • Good morning all :j

Well, I didn't manage to get anything done yesterday - had a phone call from my brother early morning saying my Dad had stomach cancer and was having surgery as we spoke  S*d's law our car was in the garage, so we dropped DD off at the IL's and borrowed their car and raced over to the hospital (35 miles) - waited all day without being told anything. Saw my Dad being wheeled back into the ward and he told us that there wasn't a tumour but he'd had some of his stomach removed and had been fitted with a stoma. Counting our blessings there is no cancer - so we can deal with whatever else. Didn't get home till late so have been up early washing/drying and ironing all uniforms  I'm knackered, but somewhat relieved. Especially as the Dr phoned me last night and eventually filled me in.

Anyway work today, but DH is going to pop in and see my Dad in his lucnh break. DD has a birthday party after school that FIL is now going to take her to, and I am going to try and get some order back in the house. Tea tonight will be roast chicken, as we didn't have that yesterday - and I've got to make some cakes for DD'd Brownie Christmas party. STOP world - I want to get off :rotfl:

(((((hugs)))) to Crazychik - good luck today.

Kyle - yes I'm really excited about going to Hawaii - we have some friends who are in the US military and got stationed in Hawaii for 4 years so we're staying with them - a kind of MS holiday :o

(((((hugs)))) to everyone else - have a great day
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)

Big hugs to Hilstep, I lost my Mum 10 years ago, I'm here if you need to chat.

Go for it Kyle, I learnt to drive at 40, passed 2nd time, that was 16 years ago & so far I've only managed to hit stationary items (have I spelt that right, or have I just told you all that & ian over some envelopes?)

I'm off to work soon, I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

Princesstippytoes - best wishes for your sister.
Scuzz - cant beleive they vandalised a memorial tree - I believe in the 'what goes around comes around' philosphy - keeps me sane.
    ((((Hilstep2000))) & ((((SOMO1))))

Isnt too cold this morning which is lucky as our boiler has stopped working again! grrrr. Last night we were watching telly and suddenly it got very hot then shut off completely. Thankfully British Gas are coming today between 12 and 6pm but have a feeling they will have to order parts so will be surprised if its back on today. Luckily we have the log fire. The British Gas homecare is the best thing ive done.

In the office and ironing to do today. If it gets cold will get more ironing done as it keeps me warm. Think OH is planning to finish stripping the hallway - we have no plans to have it plastered and painted yet but the bare walls will look better than the grotesque paper thats there at the moment.

Hoping to get the last of the Xmas pressies deliveries this week so can wrap it all. Have 1 more present to order, something else to find for OH & thats it. DD & DS have to get their friends stuff so that will be sorted at the weekend.

Egg and chips for tea tonight.
