Microwave Challenge

Ok, every night I have approx 40 children to cater a small tea for. During the summer it's not so bad as I can do salads etc. BUT now with it being cold they want hot things and I only have a microwave available to me. They really like pasta but it came out really stodgy today when I tried it. I'd like to do it again, but better. Any ideas of what can be done quickly, cheaply and in a microwave? Thanks.

Jacket potato and beans/cheese maybe?
Hotdog sausages out of a tin in a bread roll?0 -
Yep hotdog sausages go down well. As does tomato soup with rolls. We used to do jacket potatoes when I cooked them at home, but now with health and hygiene rules I can't do that anymore. And it's a bit difficult doing 40 potatoes in half an hour. Flipping rules and regulations!!"Failure is always an option"

Don't you just love those rule makers:rolleyes:
What about poached eggs in one of those microwave poacher things. I think you fit 4 in them.0 -
Rice cooks well in the microwave. Jacket pots are easy peasy. you can do boiled pots 2. Do you have a kettle cos you could do cous cous all you do is pour boiling water/stock over it & cover & leave for 5 mins. Do you do proper meals or snacks? Red egg is easy - scrambled egg with baked beans in it kids love that.0

You could always steam potatoes then mash it to go with baked beans or even some steamed veg portions like carrot, broccolli and sweetcorn to go with scrambled eggs.0

Could you download the user guide for a microwave as they often have lots of recipes. That's Numberwang!0

Are you just doing savoury or sweet as well?
My mum does a great apple cake in the microwave. Its just a basic scone mix with some mixed spice in and cooking apples sliced up and put on top. I think she microwaves it for about 5 - 10 minutes. I'll double check that tomorrow tho.I'm through accepting limits'Cuz someone says they're soSome things I cannot changeBut till I try, I'll never know!0 -
Soup would be good in the microwave and its cheap and healthy for them too.Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have.0

Hi, Can really sympathise with you trying to cook for all those kids. Have you tried slightly undercooking your pasta slightly, when you take it out of the micro run under cold water this stops it cooking. Then put sauce through and just heat up as normal. Also don`t use the fast cook stuff it goes really stodgy( found that out to my cost). This always works really well for me HTH0
