debt wiped out!!!

My mum and dad helped me out 4 years ago when i managed to get into £10,000 debt. the paid off my bank loan and arranged for me to pay them back at £150 a month for about 5 years, anyway there is still a year come february due to them and they told me today i don't have to pay them anything back anymore.

that's £75 a month each for me and hubby!!!!!!!!!!!

our only debt is about £400 on a 0% credit card paying it off at about £50 per month, so after i get my december pay which i will spend my extra £75 i am going to put the rest off the cc to clear it quicker.

i still can't manage to get to the end of the month at the minute so although i don't have any major debts at the minute but struggling all the same , but just think in a few months i will have the £50 i normally pay off the cc and the extra £75 - yippee

don't post much but do read - i get a lot of tips from here - thank you all

Clare

    That's really kind of them.

Paying off long term debt is hard......but it's also gratifying. You must be very relieved (and just in time for Chrismas too;))

Well done you, and what generous parents!!

May I put my middle-aged (OK old:rotfl: ) mother's hat on, and say do check out the OS threads to help with your budgeting? You have a wonderful opportunity to get yourself completely straight and it'd be a shame not to use it:D You'll find lots of ideas for cutting the food budget etc That should help you last the full month;) But enjoy the bonus, Christmas certainly came early for you:D :D
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  • I'm so pleased for you, it's a lovely thing your parents have done and well done you for working so hard at getting straight x

Clowe...what a nice Christmas present, your parents are really wonderful aren't they?

Can I echo the thought from others that if you can manage to keep to the budget you have been on until your other debt is cleared you can then start saving!

Congratulations - I can almost feel your relief just from reading how you wrote that!

The 'breathing space' feels good, doesn't it!

Sounds as though your parents are very proud of you as well :T .

Like other posters have said, there are loads of good ideas around these boards on how to budget and cope with getting rid of the remainder - Good Luck with it  .

Good for you for actually paying your parents back. Lots of people who help their children out of debt get lots of promises and not much cash.

Before I discovered the OS threads I used to pay £550 into my Tesco clubcard plus. It paid for groceries, petrol and pocket money. To my shame I often was overdrawn.

Now, it is down to £250 a month and has been for over a year. I use lots of tips and over time I've made my own OS discoveries and shared them.

I've done a Christmas shop and spent £220. It is all my December groceries, a few presents and whisky, ginger wine, 2 bottles of champers, 6 bottles of cava, bottle of vodka, bottle of Sancerre, so not bad!

That did include £12 off with a tesco code from the Tesco codes thread - always look there when booking an online shop.
